... or is it simply because beta players tend to be more experienced and more inclined to like destruction and hate elves?

From what I see now, it's almost a total inverse of WoW: to be on the underdog but disciplined team, and to be a relatively lesser played class on that team, go high elf.

It seems bizarre, but I can see why that might be true. But do you think this will change once the game is released commercially?

Thanks!

Seems hard to believe... but indications suggest this.

Or do you think it's a beta thing, and that once this goes live they will be swamped?

a) ?

/whistles. what a seriously miserable MMO company.

Funcom to honest customers: lol, you pathetic idiots, you didn't cheat? hah! screw you ! serves you right.

Funcom to dupers: hey, good job on making a fortune from cheating. to ensure your advantage, now everyone knows how to do it, we will no longer let this happen - but you get to keep all your loot!

Funcom to people who raise this issue on forums: delete, banned.

I will never go back to this game. It is putrescent.

I would love to hear opinions on this... I want plenty of opportunities for fun open world pvp encounters.

Will core provide that, or should I go for open pvp?

If so, is it because

- destruction is more fun?

- people think that like wow the 'bad' side will be less populated but more disciplined on live?

- destruction has better classes?

ie, if I like playing the underdogs, but with a more mature and cohesive playerbase, should I roll order?

I admit, I am a video game and MMO novice; I have only beee playing games since the ZX81 came out, and MMOs since UO (although I only dallied with that). My main MMO experience is limited to EQ2, WOW, CoX, LOTRO, DDO, POTBS, GW, and Vanguard. I in no way consider MMOs to be my main video game experience. I have installed countless patches in RTS, FPS etc.

So, from this admittedly blinkered perspective, I I have never experienced a game in which patches were quite so consistently poor - in that they broke so much with every patch, and made such elemental mess-ups (improving catacombs.. oops - no one can actually zone in, there's an oversight).

But I am certainly willing to be corrected. Has any game in history been quite so abysmal at patching?

Never mind pvp patch but gem stacking, duping, seige battles etc..still broken..

i gave this game its 3 month chance but now its bye bye..

Gem duping was fixed, just not in the patch notes.

Is this true?

If so, how was it fixed...

a) no one can dupe any more, but those who cheated keep gems

b) no one can dupe any more, and those who cheated had their duped gems taken away.

c) no one can dupe any more, and those who cheated had their duped gems taken away, and those who made a killing frm selling dupes gems armor kits are banned from the game.

If a is the case, it makes me puke.If b is the case, I may consider going back at some point. c) would restrore my faith that this game will not tolerate rampant exploits (and by explaoits, I mean hacking and serious cheating, not shooting someone from some stairs)

Sounds good to me.

I will be playing this game for pvp objectives anyway.

Personally, what would make me resubscribe is a relevelling of the playing field. (Alongside all the gameplay fixes we all know about).

Money, armor, items.

Keep your level, and crafting levels, that's it.

They need to start people back at the same level, because the cheating has been so rampant, the only people who would want to stay in the game - if they realised the full extent of it - are cheats, or people with no competitive spirit.

If people who worked for everything realised to the full extent what suckers they are, and to what extent Funcom doesn't care, they would leave in a heartbeat. Well, they already are leaving in large numbers.

So, amongst the other things needed to bring this game back, I agree, a reset is clearly required.

You can accept many flaws in an MMO. But feeling that you are being laughed at as a sucker, and a sensation that Funcom is incapable of dealing with it... well, does not encourage you to stay for long.

This was the nail in the coffin for me.

The whole point of a "game" is interacting with people within a defined ruleset and creatively working it to your advantage.

When the ruleset is thrown out the window, and the devs don't address it, there is no longer a game.

I can't go back to AoC after this unless they do something really dramatic to address it.

A beautiful response. Thank you.

Nothing against the content of your post, OP, but is punctuation really so difficult?

Bumping for the benefit of those who still claim there is no duping in this game.

Or are unaware of it.

I believe that if it's so widespread, everyone should know about it to even the playing field.

Good MMOs are a beautiful thing.

But the crashing disappointment of AoC, on top of a string of other crappy titles, is raising some fundamental questions - why can't this genre seem to get it right again? WoW opened a huuuuge market. Why is it so hard to feed it with a AAA product?

Anyhow, the way I see it, AoC made one overwhelming mistake. It failed to understand that its playerbase wanted open world pvp.

How it missed the sentiment of its playerbase quite so spectacularly is beyond me. The fact that they were surprised that people wanted to play on pvp servers speaks volumes. They must have cloth ears.

WoW now acknowledges this, finally, with some of its open world pvp features in WotLK. I am amazed it took Blizzard so long to realise this also.

Anyway, finally, a new game - WAR - comes along which promises to feed this overwhelming demand for world pvp. Or rvr. Or whatever you choose to call it. Meaningful world pvp also has the beautiful feature - it remains fun to keep on playing other humans at endgame. PVE encounters are repetitions of the same thing. Other humans try out all sorts of new tricks. It is THE answer to MMO endgame.

So don't fail us! Reports are looking good. But don't get sidetracked by those who want more pve. Don't go down the cul-de-sac of too many instanced battleground. Arenas - NOOO.

Open world, meaningful, PVP. Available to all (not only members of large guilds). Available to casual players.

That's what people want. I promise you.

Keep the vision.

I wish you all the best.

It's all sad sad news, and they have noone to blame but themselves.

The game had potential. But it was not complete. And they lied.

Surely they could have done something different - declared it 'retail development' phase, where you pay for the box but no monthly fee until the game is finished. Or some such.

The fact that they went for the full pay model with a game that did not have what was promised, and poor performance, and is now a duper/botter heaven... well.

Just sad.

Unlike some I do not celebrate this.

I like to see Funcom get its come-uppance, but a game I had really wanted to work, and was the closest thing to what I wanted in some time, has proved a crashing disappointment.

Please Mythic, don't fail us now!
