/agree, they did well.  I run at high during normal play and it's hard to really tell the difference.  Ultra-high runs well for me, but when I clicked 'Detect Optimal Settings' it set me down to High so I just leave it there when I'm not gawking at the scenery.

The game is set to "super easy" mode.   This game is soooo easy I think it is for kids 12 and under.

I heard of something stupid called "monster play"..   lol.. Are you kidding me?...

Anyone know if they will fix/complete the rest of this game and let us play the evil races as real characters?

Maybe they will patch this obvious error/bug/incompletion.

Are they going to ship an incomplete game?

aha!

I wondered what that was about, I went into my local (Canadian) eb games and threw down some $ on preorder (no boxes in yet though)...

She told me they had two listed, oe for 49.99 and one for 69.99 (or maybe 59.99 and 69.99)  anyway I put my money on the expensive one just in case.

It won't take 6 months.  There is plenty of room to expand the pvp scenarios in LOTRO, and what they are starting with may not be up to par with every pvp'ers standard but it is an interesting way they've gone about it, not to mention that is new and in keeping with the spirit of the game.  People always want 'new' unless it is somehow different from the old.. go figure.

Anyway, as I said, it will not take 6 months for people to hit 40.  Many will be halfway there even before release (if the open-beta cap for pre-orders is 20 as I've read), and it won't be much longer into release until those areas are being used by many.

From what I've seen of the game myself, in closed beta, is that Turbine is building an extremely solid game with a huge future.

The early stages of any game are rarely challenging.. like another game I could mention, but won't - the first 10 levels are really a joke, the first 6 even more so, you kill things in 3-5 hits.

It's not something to worry about, every game I've played runs like that, as they should.  Just now I'm getting mt Guardian into his teens, and the battles are great, even solo.  Alot of my ability atm depends on proccing blocks and whatnot, so the fights are never too predictable.  At level 10 the skills I learned were a bit more involved than the ones I had at earlier levels.  Both of the attacks are activated after, say, a block occurs and I use the corresponding attack that get's opened.  Using that attavk then opens up another one.

Kind of wierd to explain, but it makes the fights a bit more interesting.

Also, as with any other game, things will change down the road.  If they find the action is too static for the general populace simple changes can be made and skills added to spide things up a bit.

You say , you are huge LOTR worshiper. And than you praise the film ?

Not saying film is bad. But it is far far far away from anything but meek hollywood illustration of some parts of the book

No, the movie was spectacular.  What you are comparing it to is what your imagination came up with, or what you assume Tolkien was seeing in his mind's eye.

As to the latter we can never know as words are a poor medium at best for relaying full sensory experiences.  Mind you, they are almost all we have to work with, but that doesn't make them good.

What LOTR the movies did was give us the best possible visual interpretation we could have ever expected from anyone but ourselves.. if you know what I mean by that.  And even had you the funds and the equipment your vision still may not have translated as you'd imagined.

Now, all that aside, I liked the books better myself.

nononono the movies are the most overrated movies ever made...except for the first one, i kinda like it is more beautiful than the other two..never mind....you will only know this if you truly read the books, than you will see how much Jackson (or his wife) has destroyed...its a shame

this game has great lore, Tolkien would be glad.... i cant say that for the films...

"overrated"

I don't use this word much, as I can never figure out where the 'rating' is coming from.. and tbh the only rating I really consider is my own.  I mean if I were to take everyones opinion to heart I'd hate most of the games I actually enjoy.

What I was saying is that as far as movie production, budgets, effects capabilities and availabe actors I don't know what you naysayers think could have been done better other than bring in that one bit of lore they missed that you yourself feel was important.   If every critic had their input the movie would have turned out unwatchable.

And please don't say things like, "..truly read the books..", it killed the whole point you were trying to make.  If you like to think you are the only one here who really enjoyed the depth of Tolkiens work, so be it, but pushing someone's disagreement with you into a "you don't know the books like I do" argument is old.

Guys (and girls!), does the game continue to split as you progress, such as it does at the end of the first segment (lvl 6ish)?

Still curious about this part.  Again I'm going to preorder, this is an amazing game but was wondering if that mechanic comes into play more than once is all.

Let's not let the troll derail the OP's purpose for the thread

Anyway, he has a few good questions, wondering the same about the split in location based on storyline bit myself.  I can't access the forums as I'm not in beta, and information elsewhere is limited.  I'll be pre-ordering regardless but it was a question that popped into my mind right away when I was moved onto the second part of the intro story.

What part of OP is a review?  let me guess your one of those persons that thinks being in beta means levelling up the fastest and being top level.

What part of OP is review?

"LOTRO feels like the spiritual successor to WoW probably the only MMO that's kept my interest for over a year (played since launch). This game is easy to jump into and seems like it's not geared towards the super hardcore. Like WoW, this game feels like a game that uses time wisely, with no matter how little I play during a period, I feel like I am getting something done. This is great for someone like me who is more on the casual side and can't dedicate endless hours. Also interesting and enjoyable is how they game crafts it's sequences that make it feel like you are responsible for different things through scripting and videos."

Small, but reviewish in nature..

And what are you on about with the second bit of your reply?  You are funny, making such grand assumptions based on NOTHING.

You complain about WoW, yet reading your replies is like visitng the Blizzard boards.  The OP came here with a few concerns, already liking the game, and you decide it's time to flame for no good reason.   I pointed it out and now you are coming up with funny insults directed at me.. you're awesome!

Anyway, just to set your mind at ease.. I think beta testing is about working out as many  flaws in a game as possible prior to release.

But enough of this, you are wasting my morning.  I'm here for some info, not to play flame wars with some emo kid.  Sorry I unblocked you, was thinking you might have had something to add to the actual discussion..but it's clear you do not.   You are the weakest link, goodbye.

I've heard talk of buddy keys, I'd really love to give this game an honest try but I don't know anyone who has purchased or plays.

I don't decide on a game from any posting trend or psuedo-general consensus, I like to try it myself.  If anyone who is currently playing has a buddy key to throw my way I'd appreciate it.

At the moment I do have the money to buy it, but I've spent so much money on games only to shelf them soon after that I like to try it out even a small bit before I spend my dough.. and realistically they should be offering a trial - if it is a good game I will like it and buy it anyway..

Generally in MMOs you group with people of the same level as you, so if the people you want to group with can do the quest to 'move the world on' then you can too. Think of it like an access quest, like they used to have in EQ2.

Is there just that one first split?  That wouldn't be a problem imo, I thought it might occur at every major stage of some larger story (or does it?).

Only played to level 13, not much time to get deep this weekend..

I think I saw a note on that page that they email beta info on thursdays.

I'm in Canada and not sure about pre-ordering from here.. bestbuy.ca has nothing on the game and the other sites are showing shipping prices that are a bit steep.

My question is will we have our key before the box gets here or will we be stuck between April 24th and the day the box arrives in the mail?

Ooh.. I don't have the pamphlet.  But is that going to be sent to me right away when I preorder?

I was looking at the preorder sites and couldnt figure that out, if it was coming now or coming later upon release.

I also called locally and noone seems to have a copy of any preorder boxes..

btw, thanks for the replies guys!

So, yeah, as I've already poted, I'm going to be playing this when it becomes available.. but now I have the problem of what to do in the meantime.

Sure I'll hit the gym, not cann in sick (as much) and cook better meals, but I'll still have time to kill and I don't like watching anything on TV other than Lost.

I'm a gamer.  I dread these 'in limbo' days between games.  When you've decided to move on, but the next game isn't quite ready yet.  This stress test they are running was something I should have avoided , now I've tasted the sweet candy and I want more.. but I can't have any unless the candyman sends me a beta key ...

Any suggestions?

I'm loving this stress test, so I can only imagine how much I will like the finished product.. anyway, I'm going to pre-order next week and was curious if my option between $9.99 and $199 comes at the end of the first month of released play or am I prompted to decide this sometime sooner?

Thanks.. look forward to gaming with you in this new world!

I'm playing in the Stress Test right now, and have decided to Pre-Order.

If they would let me pay them to continue after monday I would galdly do so, and this is 2 months from release.
