Because every game that has been set to compete with WoW has failed.

Because WAR is a good game, but so is WoW.  IMO, and in 11 millions others minds.

Because people have time invested, and a lot of it.

Because some of my friends still play it, and so do some of yours.

Because those of us having fun playing WoW could care less about the back and forth flamewars between fanbois on sites like this....

The only thing that will effect WoW's subscriber base is it's subscribers becoming bored with the game and moving on.   Every day there are still new players coming in, and last time I was on, the bg's were full and the landscape was happening.

For all you nubs claiming mental superiority over WoW players... are you bloody serious???  LOL

IT'S A GAME, JUST A GAME, AND ONLY A GAME.

If you seriously put yourself higher on the intellectual ladder because you play one game over another...you have issues....

It's just the WoW reputation. For instance:

Blizzard lets you link skills in chat channels, so a Warrior could link [Pummel] - one of his skills.

So what does the mature WoW community do? They go and say "anal" in the chat channel and link skills after it. So trade is flooded with 10 year olds going "Anal [Pummel]" like they just learned a new dirty word.

I'm sorry, it's pathetic. You're right though, I want both games to succeed because they're both fun and the more competition/variety we have in ANY game genre, the better for us. Competition means both companies want to do their best.

We'll that level of immaturity is to be expected as there's no denying the fact that WOW main appeal is to the kids born in the late 1980's and early 1990's. The game is full of this generation, hence all the Chuck Norris stuff. You either got put up with it or leave to MMO's where a more mature community reside. No point complaining. As that's like going to bench in a kids playground to read a good book then complaining about all the kids and the noise.

People born in the 80's and 90's should have no real concept of Chuck.  His last run of films was Delta Force I believe, and that was in the 80's.. all the rest was 70's... people aren't really into things when they are newborn, it's us 70's kids that know chuck.

One server can only hold so many players so if your on a highly populated one why would you be worried anyway? It's not like suddenly there will be no1 to play with... So what is this post about? nothing? I have WAR pre-ordered and have never cared for WoW, but it's not like as soon as WAR goes live everyone will just drop their WoW sub and leave. This post is stoooopid.

Yes I am filled with worry.  Read the entire thread jimmy.  But I agree, your post is stoooopid.

See this is what Im looking for, honesty.

I am one of those people like you, started on day 1 and have burned myself out countless times.  But I don't lie to myself and say it's Blizz's fault.  They did a kick ass job, and Ive had months of realtime fun in their game... this thread was just me kinf of giving them props.

Just after WAR beta Im not sure anything is coming to challenge the fun aspect.  War was just as gear based in beta IMO, even at low levels, you have you methods of getting the best gear available...and all that shit about the battles being based on skill is crap, its all charge and zerg from the many fights I was in.

Some do indeed have fun playing it but others are bore and just going through the motions

Because it is possible to play more than one game.

For many people it isn't possible or feasible to play 2 games at once. $30 a month might be a lot or they like devoting themselves to one game.  Is it possible? yes but for many just not an option they want to entertain.

Because it is possible to enjoy more than one game.

Again going back to my previous statement. Can you enjoy 2 games? Yes but when your friends out level you or you miss an event because you were playing another game enjoyment goes down.

Because they have the funds to keep it going.

Lots of games that "failed" still have funds to keep it going so no worries there.

Because it doesn't matter that you 'wish wow fails'.

Many wish WoW fails to spite Blizzard(myself included). Most don't want it to fail but rather for their new game to be succesful.

Because every game that has been set to compete with WoW has failed.

Failed in which sense? AoC is still going, LotR is doing well, EQII is still going strong. Failed is very subjective. Do they have the numbers as WoW? Nope but that doesn't mean they failed.

Because WAR is a good game, but so is WoW. IMO, and in 11 millions others minds

Welcome to group think! Many people follow their friends regaurdless of how good a game actually is. WAR is a good game and thats why many view it as the new game to play leaving behind the old good game WoW.

Because people have time invested, and a lot of it

The Expansion will erase all of that time and will offer a perfect time to switch over to WAR.

Because some of my friends still play it, and so do some of yours.

All my friends quit for 1 of 2 reasons. Blizzard(nuff said) or for WAR.

Because those of us having fun playing WoW could care less about the back and forth flamewars between fanbois on sites like this....

A post shows that you care and are trying to convince others to remain with WoW.

Many of WoWs subscribers have been bored with WoW for years. Just there is no alternative. WAR is the first major alternative that looks to have promise. As older players leave they will take others with them. Once new players see the old players leaving they will wonder if they know something and follow suit. Snowball effect.

Play the game you like. I have played WoW and experienced everything that Blizzard had to offer.

As for interllectual statements. There are idiots in every game. The problem is that Blizzard panders to them and gives them a home in the name of money.

Dude, Warcraft owns the MMO industry, counter my points all you like.. draw a sigil and medittate on it for all I care.... if you read all Ive written youll see wow isnt even my favorite game to play, it just kills all the others because its so damn well rounded.

You said you have experienced everything Blizzard has to offer?  Thanks for proving me right.  Have you experienced everything Sony has to offer?  Funcom?  Turbine?  Probably not, if you have you must be cloned.   But Blizzard did enough to keep you through all their content, quit giving them shit for being so good at building a fun game.

I must say after reading and seeing the things coming up in WOTLK expansion, i am truly disappointed. Blizz is taking $40 (or maybe 50 or xpac?) from our pockets just to have 1 more new playable class... death knight

There are like 4-5 more new instances most of which have recycled monster models with new colors.

Naxx is recycled again so i get to play 2 year old content again...

Tradeskills are still  a joke, and without raiding mats u cant only craft stupid useless stuff.

Few more BG's... shouldnt we have more than 4 in 4 years. And forget BG's everyone will form an arena team and afk out to get their free arena gear... play a rogue/druid or warrior/druid anything with druid and win...

I was very hyped after seeing the cinematic but i am not going to pay for the content which should be free after 4 years. I will try WAR for a while, even if it sucks at least i will be fighting against new character models...

Beast boss in UBRS model = Chromaggus in BWL lair = Demons in Area 51 = Trash mobs in WOTLK instances... recycle more???

WTF?? The expansion is out?  Because I haven't got the patch yet!!  I'm going to do try to download it now so I can give you my impression on the expansion...

This is the foundation of all sub theories of the last 3 years.

qft, I like to try everything, and some of the games out there are great fun, they just fell off somewhere.  I remember when they brought the danceclubs into CoH, when housing came into SWG, etc..  all games are worth a try IMO.

Way way back somewhere in the early 90s, Blizzard wanted to make an RTS game based on the Warhammer setting. They tried to make negotiations with a game company called Games Workshop. Games Workshop is the creators of Warhammer. Well, as negotiations went back and forth Blizzard started to create their game and GW backed down. So, Blizzard took the game setting of Warhammer, tweeked it, and created a game called Warcraft.

Here is the reference link that proves this:

I'm sure if you search around some more on google or yahoo, you'll find more articles like this one on other game sites.

You might want to learn alittle bit more about your game before you say another game sucks.

Bruticus_XI:  In a game like this the community is so vast we might as well be talking about the global community minus a few developing nations, hence there is no real definable 'WoW' community, just all types of people playing, and that includes the people who would participate in the text play you are talking about.  And from experience I think it's safe to say there are assholes in every game.

Izakaron:  This thread was my response to another thread.

DJSmiley:  Please don't put words into my mouth or interpret ideas I haven't even touched on.  Not once did I equate failure with subscription loss.   I just said the sub #'s are safe, and even if they shift I agree, it doesn't mean the game has failed...noone could ever say that about the game anyway.

Deckatre:  The only competition those games offered was in the hype.  When I say compete, I'm talking Coke and Pepsi...  WoW has no Pepsi.

TBH I'd rather the WoW pop played LOTRO right now, I love that game as well.  I'm not a die hard fan of WoW,  I just wanted to counter all the posts I see about the game going down.  Yeah it's pointless, and it's beyond a dead horse, but I have insomnia and this helps bore me to sleep.

goodnight.

Will Warhammer get at LEAST 1 million subs?

You forgot Darkfall. And I pray that Warhammer won't be the next multi million player game, it attracts the worst people. I don't want Mythic to get corrupted by power.

There is no Darkfall,

lol ain't it the truth cause it's like all them other crap mmorpgs that gain lots of hype for some reason and never amount to anything....... DnL, PotBS, Face of Mankind and Roma victor etc etc.

Anyways if you're bored of current mmorpgs then WAR isn't going to do anything for you because it's just the same basic mechanics as what WOW uses but because they ain't Blizzard it'll be released half done and very buggy with lots of people complaining that it sucks........ only themselves to blame that after all the previous disappointments they still think WAR will be good.

I hope WAR to catch only the valuable players. 1 million is even too much. Do not want another commercial crap .

Commercial crap?  Please explain.

Every comment I read seems thin and not very well though out.

Video Games aren't capable of being anything but commercial.  They're trying to make money not create new cutting edge artwork or anticomformist propaganda, it's a commercial business.

On the other hand, I hope WAR fails miserably so that all of these companies will get it through their heads that making another restricted fantasy MMO will not get WoW numbers. I'm really tired of all the WoW clone we have been force fed since WoW became a hit. Give me a sci-fi sandbox for god sake.

We've been force fed WoW clones?  When?  What games are you talking about?

Honestly it sounds like youre rehashing comments made by others.  I haven't seen a wow clone yet, and I've been playing most games.  LOTRO? No.  HGL? No.  WAR? No.  GW? No.  SoR? No.  VSoH? No.

Sorry, I'm trying but can't find a wow clone, help me out.

For their sake, I do hope they get a decent amount of subscribers/fans.  Just in order for them to polish the game to a certain level at least.

But in all honesty, I doubt WAR is the answer.

The answer isn't a game.

People's hope and salvation doesn't come in the form of a virtual world with other players...

It come's from within themselves and finding something that they enjoy and want to do.

If the public keeps surging forward at every new MMO that comes out, then the business will grow to handle thier customer base: make a game, make promises, release it, and before the first patch... start on something "better".

People keep looking for salvation, but refuse to see that the "business" MMO's will just keep stringing them along, taking their money, and handing them broken products with more promises that the future will be better.

WAR was pushed it back till they felt it was ready, Mythic was far more honest than many other companies, and they have put forward an excellent promotion. For THAT, they get my pre-order, initial subscription, and if the game remains good... they will have a valuable customer.

Keep your eyes open, compare the companies (not the games), and don't be duped by people that just want your initial purchase so they can begin the next game... only then will you find your "answer".

Answer?  LOL man get back to your psych class and gtfo.   We're talking about video games here, no need to apply your Jack Handey thinking to this one.

EVERYONE FYI:  THE ANSWER COMES FROM WITHIN.   LOL

But back on topic, I don't think WAR will beat out WoW.  The attack mechanics are... <<<EDITED...OOPS NDA!  HAHA>> ... might get better.

It might not now, but they keep improving on all aspects of the game.  PvMP will grow by leaps and bounds over the next year, I believe to a point where it will rival any other popular PvP based MMO.

DDO on the otherhand, very weak at launch but has an intuitively tactile combat system that emulates D&D in real time and one of the most dynamic character building systems availble in an online game.  While I hated the game at launch and stepped away for a year it's now become something that's likely to be emulated by future game developers.

I'm surprised how narrow minded the majority of gamers are in terms of online games.  DDO is a game all gamers could benefit from experiancing, in it's current form.

Dumbed down?  Compared to what?  I love the combat system, my Guards reactive abilities make every fight interesting for me.... what game are you playing that makes this looked dumbed down?  EVE is more complex, but that's apples and oranges.. no avatar based MMO I've tried has ever had a complex combat system.  At least not IMO.

Actually, it does. MMO developers have to convince us to play their games. We are the ones doing them the favour (giving them our money). The only way to do that is to give the players what they want. Sure, it could work, but usually the word "secret" means that the developers are set on what they've decided and aren't willing to let their future players have a say in the final product. Honda and Ford are well-established companies...these guys aren't. I just don't see these guys being able to create the perfect MMOs without any prior experience in the market if they're not willing to be flexible...

That's the charge of any game designer, not just MMO's... when was the last time you tested or were consulted on a console game?

Even without input games can turn out great, and adversely games can turn out shite with too much input.

When it comes out, see if you like it, don't get all pissy because you can't beta it a year prior to release.
