As the title suggests I'm very concerned about how macroing is going to affect this game, in particular the combo system, which may be reduced from a complex set of keys to one simple button.

With the advent of keyboards such as the G15 and Zboard among others, macroing could be easier than ever, even time delays can be programmed in if necessasy in between each move of a combo.

This would put owners of such keyboards at a huge advantage over other players, being able to perform combos flawlessly giving them time to concentrate on other areas of pvp.

I searched through the AoC forums a bit and found this:

"Theres been a few threads about the G15 by now and in most of them I have said the same thing. You could macro the combos but with the way combat works it would do you pretty much no good."

Very vague and not very reassuring.

So does anyone know how this issue is 'really' being addressed, or is there some information I missed or didn't find?

Aside from the keyboards, intensive macroing should be okay.  SWG pulled it off back in the day, with the abilites to time delay and all the rest.  It was still a level playing field, macroing is still subject to cast times, recast times, animations, etc.  You shouldn't be able to macro anything that you can't do with your hands manually.

Moderation is the key folks, with anything... have a few pints at the end of the day at pub but don't be drinking for breakfast, second breakfast, elevensies, etc...  Have some ice cream but don't eat the whole bloody box in one sitting, and play your games just don't sacrifice health and wellness.

indeed, with every patch, LOTRO adds more content and features, almost always smoothly and virtually bug free.

Haven't seen this from any other company.

I'm the kind of person who prefers quality over quantity, especially when after a while, I get quality in quantity

That's why it's almost exciting to be a part of the game, it's going places IMO.  We're going to see some cool sheet along the way.

I just started LOTRO again, I played as a loremaster before (at the release) and got him to level 22, then I just got hit by a wall and didnt feel like playing anymore, I dont know why? It just felt that I was doing the same quests over and over again. Now ~1 year forward, yesterday actually. I started an Elf Hunter, did some reading on Elf and basic guides, was pretty interested and looked into all the quests ingame like I didnt before, reading the log and doing more exploring to keep my interest.  Last time  I played LOTRO I just took the quests and did them without even thinking.  I just dont know would keep my interest anymore in these games.... anykind of story to share?

farewell

LOTRO is about the journey, not the end.  If you are powering through all the content to hit 50 ASAP (not saying you are, but some come in and think it's the thing to do)  you miss the actual game.  LOTRO actually has what most games profess to offer - interesting and enjoyable story-arcs.

So read every quest, slow right down and get every word..it's hard even for me sometimes to play like that, but this game makes it worthwhile.  Try not to use MMODB and explore your way through the content.  End-game is fun and there is much to do but getting their in a hurry only hurts you and your char.

You might already be taking your time, but if yu haven't played LOTRO like this give it a try.

I bet the new book will add new chessines and Conan-alike areas :I

This is great that you have found a game you enjoy. But LOTRO isn't a true mmorpg. There are limits to what you can do. For instance, you can't kill and loot people's bodies. So for me, Lotro is like a game of digital pokemon. Yes you can link up to other gameboys and play with them, but no, it is nto a true mmorpg. In a true mmorpg you can roleplay.

And it's great to see the music feature. Hopefuly other games, including mmorpgs with real pvp, will include this like ultima online did too.

Just my opinion..Don't flame me..sincerely yours

I had a negative experience with Turbine after playing Dungeons and Dragons Online. So, I'm curious to hear from former DDO players: what has Turbine done to recover from the DDO disaster?

Some people enjoy DDO.  I'd say to start taking a look at yourself and don't blame Turbine for building a game that didn't happen to suit your tastes.

Find a game you like, if it's a buggy mess blame the company, but if it just isn't your cup of tea move along.

and in an RPG game there really isnt a point to jump other than jump over obstacles. does not give you an extra advantage in battle. nor does give you extra dodging skills nor makes you harder to hit. at worst makes you look like a bunnyhopper.

and about feeling more realistic... try jumping 780 times in a row as your running for 30 minutes then start fighting wild life... hows that for realism... it would be more realistic NOT to jump to get to your destination then start fighting.

for me the jump button is a completely useless feature that really does not have any other need other than to jump over a coincidently well placed tree log in the middle of a canyon map, cuz god forbid we can't go around fallen trees or rocks.

In other games jumping is used tactically as well as to create openings for attacks while on the run.

An example is chasing a mob in a game or being chased and jumping over a log, another examply would be where you need to be facing target to fire a weapon - as you run away you can jump a 360 and fire, landing and continuing along.

Don't be so stupid in blindly defending your wee game.

I love playing a Rogue when I want to group. If I'm strapped for time I love playing my cleric and paladin and do a few solo instances.

I'm trying to figure out how effectively play a wizard and not suck/die. Casters are a bit a challenge for me in this game.

Servers don't matter much anymore. May depend if you want to play in a perma death guild with an alt or a main as to what server you choose.

I don't know of any overplayed class. Somehow it will be like in a group and you're needing a healer and there is not a one to be found, other nights it can be full of healers and no type of tankage. Seems that way to me atleast on a few occasions. But really you should play what you find the most fun and because one class is over or underplayed.  It's a game have fun with it!

You'll find you'll be making many alts anyways to figure out what you enjoy the most and maybe what you feel like playing at that moment.

Went through the alt thing when the game came out, I've just recently learned that I enjoy a game much more if I come back and develop the same character each time.  Trying various classes is useful for knowing their capabilities, but that's been my way in every game Ive played and it gets tiring.

Might play a Wizard again, something about that class calls to me, although my fighter was my most played last time.  Just trying to decide before I pop the code in, but I'm in no rush.

Just about to come back into the game, and cure my altoholism.   I have been away for a while and haven't seen the developments in the game, but I used to play both Fighter and Wizard.   I bought a new copy of the game to come back, create one character, and play it alone for the rest of my DDO life.

So, before I commit I was curious as to what everyone has been playing and how do they like it.. what is an overplayed class and what is needed in the groups these days.

...and a wee poll.

Thanks for your help!

Oh yeah, any server recommendations?

put TV aside in this argument.  it's mindless trash that dumbs down the population as intended.  In a half hour sitcom, almost half of that is commercials!! repetetive enough to drive you insane.

Now compare video games to real hobbies.  sports for example.  someone playing basketball everyday is doing tremendous things for their body.  maybe they even get good enough to play in the NBA and actually make money with this hobby.  There are actually video game competitions out there.  seemingly becoming more popular so it's possible to make money playing video games with enough practise.  But compare the benefits of practicing hours on a video game, to hours running around outside being active.

Maybe health isn't that important for you.  To the OP, you play a couple hours a day.  that's fine, you shouldn't feel guilty at all, and it should make you laugh when people say man... what are you doing?!!! you coulda been watchin deal or no deal!!!

Reading is another hobby.  your just as inactive as when playing a video game, but your exercising your mind.  You are usually learning something while reading, depending on what you read.  Reading can inspire you, and sometimes even change your life completely.  Can a video game inspire you to change your life for the better?

I'm not saying video games are a completely bad hobby.  couple hours a day, you can have some fun, compete with other people.  It can be quite enjoyable.  They just aren't really leading you towards anything.

No need to compare video games to 'real' hobbies, they are real hobbies.  And if you play well enough you are actually learning more than while reading a book in some cases.

And it is so kind of you to say that they aren't completely bad hobbies...I'm going to go further and say they aren't bad AT ALL.

And yes they lead towards something - me enjoying my day and destressing.

Blizzard themselves has stated a few times that player housing/guild halls are useless fluff features that bring nothing to the game and only serve to detract resources from more important areas of the game.

Well, they put it better than I just did but the message is still the same.

Player housing is worthless.

To play devil's advocate here, if they consider player housing a waste of resources, then what about all the old 25-40 man level 60 raid dungeons that are equally useless yet still in game using up resources?  Seems to me they can remove or reduce the number of players for those, but that is another subject I suppose (btw what is going to happen to the lvl 70  25-man raid dungeons after WoTLK)?

I agree housing can be useless unless you give players the options to set up shops in them, but I suppose that would just bring in more gold farmers.

When they reffered to resources earlier in the post I think they were reffering to development resources and not actually server or technical ones. Keeping those old dungeons isn't causing any more lag to the server than if they weren't there, and after all the time spent by the development team creating those dungeons why pull them out. Also believe it or not people still run them.

And IMO for new players coming into the game they are extra content, and some are alot of fun, I have good memories of mc and all..

In other words Warcraft lore is teh suck.

I don't see the connection... so creating lore means it sucks?

Still not getting it...

edit: nm, I see your use of "teh" in a post.  You are cyber-hip.

It's a matter of opinion.  WoW is really well done, but like other MMOs; it does have downfalls.  WoW is easy to learn.  Perhaps, even overly simplified.  When compared to other MMOs, a child can play WoW.  With that being said, that is perhaps it's best feature.  It makes the game accessible to almost everyone.

The other problem WoW has is with its Raid Orientation and, recently, it's PvP Orientation.  In the past few patches, WoW has made big strides in terms of solidifying their PvP.  However, this is a problem.  They are attempting to balance their PvP with their PvE, which in itself, is a mistake.

Is WoW the best on the market?  In sales/customer base?  Yes.  Is it the best in terms of fun?  Probably not.  I found DDO to be alot more fun, but due to the lack of content, I eventually got bored.  WoW has A LOT of content, sadly, the content I want to do I probably won't do because of my distaste for raiding.

Ok, I'm always hearing about how WoW is so easy, a child can learn it, "when compared to other MMOs" you say...

What are these games that are so hard to learn?  I've played almost all of the pay-2-play games listed on this site and they are ALL simple as hell.  No MMORPG is difficult to learn.  And WoW is no harder or easier than the others... LOTRO = easy, CoV/CoH = easy, DDO = easy, SWG = easy, EVE = easy, GW = easy, EQ2 = easy, SoR = easy, TR = easy.....

I could go on and on, but what I'm really looking for is for YOU to tell ME which games you are comparing WoW to that makes it look easier than the rest.. I think they are all childs play.  Nothin complicated about any of them once you get the basics down.

 Go play Anarchy Online.

You find AO difficult?   Yeah, I've played it... I had a go at it when I left SWG ages ago...and TBH I didn't stop playing AO because I was having a hard time understanding how to play, just a hard time enjoying the game.

Curious though, what do you find so hard about that game?

5b. Specialized pet skills must be learned from specific creatures (through taming) and can then be trained to the other pets that suit the criteria.  A list of these special skills should be available on the link he posted above.
