The feature list and the combat.  That is enough to make this game head and shoulders better than the rest, IF it ever releases.

Ya right.  Just like AoC was feature complete all the way until two weeks from launch.  Hell, even two days before launch the game director admitted that BATTLE KEEP SIEGES were not avaiable yet, along with a host of other features that were "in", but not really.

DFO will be the exact same way.  They have 1/10 the staff and think they can deliver 3x as much game as AoC.  We'll see.  My bet is that this "feature complete" list of DFO will take a decade or two to make it into the live game.

Just because one company is incompetant doesn't mean another is. We knew Funcom didn't have a good release track record. With Aventurine we don't, maybe they'll be better, maybe they'll be worse. We'll see. People have faith in the IDEA. The rest is yet to be judged.

A bigger company doesn't mean a more complete game, its just not logical. In fact, some larger companies are actualy WORSE than small companies at releasing what they promise.

I could have told you ages ago that AoC wasn't going to have those features in at release, shouldn't have shocked anyone but the blind fanboys. 1/10 the staff? Where'd you find those figures lol. Fail less.

Easy.  Funcom has over 300 employees and Aventurine is said to have 30.  Thus, 1/10th the staff, i.e. 10%.  Even if it is 200 employees for Funcom, it dwarfs Aventurine's staff.

This statement causes me to believe they just completed the game. Far from testing but completed.

The last time I checked, the Vatican is considered a country. Some tiny islands are countries.   They need to specify this or it is more AoC-type hype without merit.  As such, saying that DFO is bigger than some coutries doesn't mean a thing.

Well you heard it her first folks, according to Aragon and Tasos apparently:-

Darkfall will be released in a few months.

Darkfall will be released in 2008.

Darfkall will be distributed by AVE in Europe

Darkfall has been adequately tested by professional QA testers.

Darkfall Beta will start a few weeks before launch.

Darkfall Beta will be only last a few weeks.

Darkfall is already very polished and 100% feature complete.

Darkfall will release a comprehensive gameplay video soon.

I sincerely hope you and Tasos are right about all of this, but I doubt it no matter how much I would like it to be true.

True, all statements is quotes from Tasos except very polished game which is my own statement. A few weeks beta as Tasos wrote have been misunderstood as 2 weeks which isnt accurate or what he ment. Tasos version of a few weeks is more then 2 weeks, just to clarify.

Considering we were suppose to have a new video "very soon" and that was promised over two months ago now, I would expect beta to last at least a few months, maybe even year.  This is Greece we are talking about and NOTHING moves fast in Greece wtih the exception of traffic.

Remember, there -IS- a new video. It was shown to a bunch of guys in a conference in Greece.

Of course, the fans and followers of Darkfall don't need to be presented with new videos. I mean...why would they want that? They've got text-updates after all.

Oh wait.

There is no proof that the video that Tasos showed at the conference was a new video.  The video shown at the conference could very well have been the last video update we had.  If they had a new video, I'm sure we would have seen it already because people have been screaming for it on the official forums for the last month and Tasos insists it isn't ready yet.

US, December 13, 2002 - Over on the Darkfall Online official site today, there is a note about Razorwax moving to Athens to be closer to their recently acquired publisher:

Razorwax has signed a publishing deal for Darkfall with a Greek publisher. We have moved Razorwax from cold and snowy Oslo, Norway to warm and sunny Athens, Greece. This move was done for various reasons, most importantly to be closer to our publisher, but the climate doesn't hurt either :)

Signing a publishing deal has made us able to hire more (and much needed) developers. We now have a team of 14 extremely talented people working fulltime on Darkfall. Three more will be hired shortly.

An official press release will be issued after the holidays with more information.

In the meantime, you should discuss this amazing news with us on our boards! :)

    -Claus

Aragon your doing it again, remember that reading comprehension ,your links are from 2007 and 2008.

Razorwax announced they had signed a publishing deal with Aventurine in December 2002.

Polarization,

Please don't try to cloud the issue with FACTS.  Aragon100 and his army of fanbois will not have it.  Besides, when December 31 comes and goes without a launch, we can all sit here and laugh at the fanbois of DFO.

The sad part is, Aventurine keeps talking about this "self publishing plan" that they are holding above all the publishers heads out there saying "you have to beat this if you want our business", yet they don't show anyone this "plan".  I think the plan, like the game, is nothing more than vaporware.  Hopefully, Aventurine can prove me wrong.

Still, we are playing other games, hang out with our girlfriend/childs and have a job. And looking forward for something new to fall back and relax with. Some here are just here 18h/day trying to convice the world that Aventurine and Darkfall is a hoax. Wich of this are most pathetic?

Gee, have not posted in a week and so that I did today I'm a troll spending 18hours/day here?  Give me a break.  And for the record, just because something is vaporware, doesn't mean it is a hoax.

Hmm... very good troll thread OP, I like the innocent, meandering manner of your post, but still you managed to toss in a few slams against the graphics and fears of it not releasing (at least you didn't use the term vaporware) Throwing in several references about how much fun AOC currently is for you really tied it all up quite nicely.

I salute you!

But just in case you were serious, the Dev's have promised to release it this year, so that's the benchmark everyone is measuring it by.  And yes, it will have sandbox type gameplay elements not often seen in modern MMORPG's today.

I have no issue with the graphics, all I care about is gameplay and the ability to crush at a decent framerate.

Will DF deliver? Till they release it we'll never know, but at least its a hope for something different.

I wonder, if i post a praise of a game, will it be considered trolling of another game...

Everyone can see the graphic quality, so i don't see how that is trolling - they are better than WoW perhaps, but there are lots of games with better graphics than Darkfall, i already mentioned one.

I never said that it wouldn't release, wether it does or not I have no idea.

But it looks like there is a market for a game like Darkfall, so I don't see why not.

Since Darkfall isn't released yet, and I like to play MMO's, I'm obviously gonna go and play a game already released that i like best.

Then when, or if, Darkfall releases, i might give it a try. That's all i said, how that is trolling i dunno.

That being said, if Darkfall really is releasing this year, that would be awesome to be able to try it out this year already.

As for the graphics, what I meant to say was, they might not be so important in Darkfall, because it focus on something else. In AoC graphics was one, among others, of mainfocus. In Darkfall i would reckon it's more the freedom of gameplay. I appreciate both, so i might play both.

Graphics mean nothing if the game play is shit.... Gameplay is the most important part of any MMO.

Graphics could be stick men for all I care as long as the game play is great.

QFT

Yet all we get is delays and broken promises, many of which were after Tasos claimed the game was "feature complete".  New video anyone?

Go figure.

Want to know how many concurrent subscribers Funcom has?

Wait until Q4 2008 Financials.

Under revenue from AoC you'll be able to take total revenue for the quarter, divide that by 3, then divide that by $15.  While not exact, it will give us a good ball park into how many concurrent subscribers Funcom has for AoC.

Then the fanbois will scream, you can't use Q4 financials.  WAR and WOTLK were released so it hurt financials.

Well guess what FANBOIS, during AoC release, WoW actually added additional servers.  How many other games out there added realms during AoC's release period?

And OP, you are spot on.  Funcom's numbers to not add up at all.

Well your post title is declaring that Tasos is no “newbie” developer as fact.

But your basing this entirely on a translation of a Greek article, that Tasos himself has said contains many inaccuracies and mistakes, without any corroboration of any kind.

Why don’t you do some research and see if you can see his name mentioned on any of the credits for

Age of Empires

Ashersons Call

Messiah

And see if you can see his name mentioned on any website or article relating to

MSN gaming Zone

Microsoft

Interplay

Turbine

Ensemble Studios

Because I’m quite sure that if was ever involved with any of those before someone after so many years would of discovered it before.

Not necessarly. Depends of what sort he of developing he was doing. Programmers usually dont get their name mentioned on the net.

And Tassos isnt someone that brags about earlier achievements. Hes a very modest guy as all nice people of Aventurine. They let the work speak for itself. =)

BS.  I have AC from when it launched and it has some credits pages with about a zillion peoples names in it.  No where is his named mentioned in any of the credits.  Why would his name be left out?

They boasted 700,000 accounts the other day.  Now, how many of these emails were sent out?  I find the timing of their 700,000 accounts news release seriously misleading.  See, Funcom's CS staff did a great job of sending out emails.  Who says their CS department isn't good?

I bet within 48 hours SOE will be freaking out and contacting the ad company about advertising the competition on their website. Just a guess.

On one page SOE had an ad for AT&T wireless...guess they are buying them too (that is if you follow the logic here).

Sorry to ruin the fun but tomorrow there will be 34 posts about the SOE-Funcom merger and that SOE is buying Age of Conan. I just wanted to put an end to those rumors now.

I already did on the first page of this thread.

Regardless of how drunk Conan got there's no way that you'd ever catch him dancing!

Agreed.  Funcom screwed up here.  Stick to the damn lore.  If there is any dancing to be had in Hyboria it should be wenches in the Inns doing lap dances for people.

Hardcore MMO gamers are so desperate for something, anything to come along and wisk them off their feet with superb gameplay, immersiveness, and fun, and they're not finding it anywhere.  WoW is too 'simple' for them, and the reason is that WoW is the ultimate 2nd generation MMO, and they've all been looking for that breakthrough 3rd generation MMO, and it's just not in the offing.  SWG preCU might have been it if only it wasn't released half broken, with only a small fraction of the content it should have had.

So they latch on to every project out there as "the WoW killer", because they want to move beyond the 2nd generation.

But alas, they are a small niche, one that can't support the massive investment needed to take MMO development to the next level.

The MMO industry is past its peak creative phase, and now it's wallowing in mediocrity that does what the investors want: bring in lots and lots of money.  That's WoW, which, for all its polish and decent gameplay, way too linear and not ragged enough in PvP for the tastes of so many grizzled MMO vets.  But WoW is, and shall remain, the ultimate 2nd gen MMO.  That's fine for the masses, but the MMO vets want something else.

So we'll probably see a repeat of this when WAR comes out.  I hope not, but best not to let your expectations up.  Tabula Rasa and AoC have not done what everyone expected them to do.

OP, it is ok.

The problem is, out of the last 18 months and 9 MMOGs than have released, only one has really been worth the price of admission.  So when a game comes along that is hyped the way AoC was, it is going to attrack a lot interest.  Each time a game pulls a POTBS, Vanguard, and AoC by not delivery what they say they will at launch, it makes it just that much harder for the next game that comes along to prove themselves.  WAR is going to have a hell of a time getting people's trust because of how much was lacking from AoC that was promised, and then apologized for.

That would definately be EPIC to say the least.  All I can say is they better pick up the pace to make it happen.  And by the way, people can be extremely sceptic and very cautious.  Just because they don't get on the same fanbois bandwagon as you doesn't mean they are trolls.  They just want Aventurine to get off their a$$ and "get 'r done".

OMFG!  That is too damn funny.  Very bad place for that banner ad.  Almost makes it look like you get AoC with your Access Pass.  I think Funcom is like Turbine.  No way in hell they'll sell their games to SoE when they are trying to build their own empires.  Make enough games that capture 50,000+ concurrent subscribers and you don't have to worry about making the next WoW killer because you are doing fine enough all by yourself.

Get 25,000 AO paid customers, 150,000-200,000 AoC concurrent subscribers, add another 100,000+ with A Secret World and Funcom will have 250,000-350,000 concurrent subscribers paying $15 a month.  That is $3,750,000 a month for a company with 250 employees.  Easy money for any future projects.  Only problem is, these games are pushing $100 million to make now days.  IMHO, they have to find a way to either bring cost down without outsourcing everything to cheap labor countries.  Without misleading and outright b.s.ing your public of what is in the game just to sell boxes, they need lower costs so they don't need 3 years to recoup development costs.

6/15/08 1:32 PM

With all of the instancing, no one will know what the "real" population of the servers ever are.  I'm guessing they will settle in around 200,000 concurrent subscribers this time next year.  As such, I picked 25%.  Then again, this game is a gankers wet dream.  A ganking squad can move zone clone to zone clone looking for marks.  Once they kill you and your small group, you can't even chase them down.  All they have to do is change to a different clone of the same zone to get away from you or port to their player city and they'll be untouchable.
