You must have being playing a different game...

Oh come off it from the amount of games SWG sold I bet by the time the CU came out that only 1/4 of the people who originally bought it were still playing. Most people quit way before the CU because the game had a horrible launch and just sucked. Anyone remember all the reviews saying how much of a disatser launch was and how everyone was moaning that there was nothing to do and the game was missing half the features. It was only until the CU that did everyone stop complaining about Pre CU and start preaising it and saying how amazing it was.

I mean I',m all for getting the old game back but all these crazy ideas of the game losing 80% of the people are stupid. Like LA said that they saw a handful of players leave but most of them all came back anyways.

Don't forget the game is 5 years old so most people naturally leave anyways and the people on the forums only make up a tiny amount of actual players.

The numbers show a steady subscription rate from launch until 2005. A sharp decline occured from 2005-2008 from 300,000 to just about 100,000. The guild I was in on Intrepid was thriving through this period up until the end of 2005. The discussions about the coming CU started a few months in advance and people were beyond pissed about the changes that were to come. The guild forum was on fire with posts showing the coming change and the ways in which it would break the game. Most of these people had been there and were happy from launch. With the coming cu they threatened to quit and go to wow. The CU hit, and they left... lamenting what a great game swg had once been.

Then with very little warning the NGE swept through. The guild leaders tried to remain optimistic but were forced to arrange a mass exodus to another game everyone could agree on. This guild in particular went to everquest 2, where it seems to be doing quite strong in membership. I didnt follow them. I stayed put for awhile. After a few months I gave up and moved on. I can guarantee you nobody from that guild came back to the game.

Those left behind could only sit and watch as entire cities slowly went up in flames. The people who built and then abandoned these sprawling cities did not do this shortly after launch, they did it during the era in which swg showed real promise. They built all these cities up just before the CU, they struggled to maintain them prior to the NGE, and then they all left.

Your version of this story appears to be based on barely a passing involvement in the game. Everyone else who was there for the duration tells a tale not far different from the one above. Do you suppose somehow your version is actually correct?

I just played the game for the first time.  I had to rebind everything to make it work like all the other mmos on the market do automatically, but whatever at least i could set things up.  I did not specify strafe keys at all.  I set 'a' to left turn and 'd' to right turn.  When I hold the left mouse button down those keys now automatically become my strafing keys without any additional setup.  Just doing that alone makes the game work properly for me, i can run forward and strafe around people without issue.  Except that just strafing in the game is very slow hops instead of a steady walk.

Then I spent five minutes trying to figure out how to jump....
In closing I'd like to note that many MMO gamers would gladly pay more to get more. If there is simply not enough money to pay sufficient staff the retail or subscription prices of MMOs should be adjusted. If part of what we are paying for is service, then many of us are perfectly happy to choose eating at a restaurant with waiters instead of going through the drive thru. We accept that it costs more, but we like the quality that we get. I'd like to see a company start to hire good staff in sufficient numbers from day one. That's something I'd pay for.
I've shut down all my other games to move to this one and have no regrets so far.  There are certain features that I do sort of miss, like independent and guild city personal housing, and other personal structures for trade skill.  If there were certain extras like that made available for additional charges i know i would be willing to pay out higher subscription fees.  They should have a first class account thats gives more in the game at a higher price to help increase money for customer service maybe.

When you log into funcom.com under your account use the support petition form to request help.  I would maybe do that on a daily basis until the account gets fixed.  So far on the official forums there is nothing that i can find addressing it, people are overwhelmed right now with piles of other issues to be screaming about.

Well they fixed me up either sunday or monday and i can get in now finally.  All i can say is, if your able to play the game and your enjoying it, dont bother with the forums.  Its nothing but trashed by people ass aching about their moms.  There is very little in the way of help for quests, hints, or constructive gameplay discussion right now.

What i wish funcom would do is put their announcement and patch notes section of the forum into anonymous access so everyone can read it whether or not they have the game.

Somehow just ignoring the issue I am now able to enter the forums.  They probably just did a round of fixing in the last day so maybe just go give it another try.

There is a giant stickied thread at the top of this forum about this issue already.  Yeah there are tons of us with the same problem all week.

I am no longer banned.  I am now insufficient privileges.  At least things are moving along.

you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:

 1. Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
 2. If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.

i agree, so far game experience has been fantastic and thats really what matters.  I think overall they will see this launch as extremely successfull.

But anyone showing up here saying they were banned and dont know why should not be met with lectures about bad behavior.  Its a funcom issue, sit tight for the day and it will likely be resolved.

If that was what was happening then yes it makes sense.  But currently there are broken accounts.  My account for instance I was able to install the game, enter the key, log into the server, and play the game.  But i am instantly banned from the forums for no apparent reason.  There are many people finding themselves in this situation currently.

I am happy with the idea that only registered users can post, but when registered users are prevented from even reading the boards its because funcom broked their shit and needs fix.  I'm hoping when they open the boards to anonymous read-only that they will also solve the broken forum accounts.

idiots...

alot of aoc accounts including mine were placed in banned status in the last 24 hours for no apparent reason.  This might get changed once they give read access to anonymous users again.

My account was also shut down - the game kept saying my password was invalid.  I put in my keycode again this morning and got the subscription restarted and was able to get back into the game and play.  In which case the error should have said account disabled instead of invalid password.

For some reason my aoc account is still banned from the forums for no given reason and no time for reinstatement.  I went in and created a new name and password for the forums to see if that helps but so far now it just says invalid password.  Those forums are the ONLY source of any real technical support so having just read access to them right now would be extremely helpful for alot of payed customers having problems.
