I got tired of seeing that "other" thread so I'm starting a new one.  If you like the game, feel free to post your comments here instead of in that "other" thread. :)

1)  Everyone can play it.  You don't need a new PC to play it, you don't even need a new graphics card and you can still get a decent framerate.

2)  It works.  I don't crash to desktop.  The quests can all be completed.  If I actually have an issue like accidentally giving a bind on pickup item to the wrong person in Kara or accidentally deleting the wrong character, I can open a ticket and it will be fixed usually within an hour or 2.

3)  It's kept up to date.  Patches come out every month or 2 that add additional content, update the interface, add new features, etc.  Every couple years a new expansion comes out with a bunch of new content, new races, new classes, new professions, new skills etc.

4)  Servers are always active.  Everytime I log in there's tons of people in game.  I have a list of about 20 friends and there's almost always somebody playing.  I put stuff up on the AH and within 48 hours it's sold.  If I need something, I can search the AH and find it.

5)  It's complete.  For PvE there's role playing, questing, raiding, professions, trading and reputation rewards.  For PvP there's battlegrounds, dueling, arenas, world PvP and tournament play.

6)  It's user friendly.  I can play alone or in a group up equally well and both offer great rewards.  There are no harsh penalties for getting killed which means I don't spend a bunch of time trying to reacquire something I've already acquired.  Leveling up doesn't take a lot of time so I always feel like I'm progressing even if I can only spend a couple hours a week playing.

7)  It's fun.  Lots of little extra's are added like holidays, world events, the faire, and a fishing tournament.

8)  It's beautiful.  Whether you are 5 or 75 you can appreciate a world filled with knights, damsels in distress, dragons, sorcerers, magic, dark castles, earie graveyards, majestic mountains, breathtaking waterfalls, zeppelin rides, vast oceans, etc.

9)  It's addicting.  Whether you are just a casual player or a hard core raider it will keep you entertained for hours and keep you wanting to come back for more.

10) It's cheap.  It costs about the same to play WoW for a month that it does to go see a 2 hour movie, buy a soda and popcorn and pay for the gas there and back and I never have to leave the comfort of my own house.  For entertainment value it's hard to beat.

Well what  can I say?
Imo the game is ugly and boring lacks funfactor simply boring.

Something that all the "hardcore" gankers and griefers are always asking for.

It needs to be FFA. You can attack anyone, anywhere. And on top of being able to kill anyone, anywhere, the leveling curve needs to be steep. And just to taunt players, make leveling much easier if you're in a group. Of course, if you do group, someone in the group will probably stab you in the back when your hit points are way down.

Of course, make players lootable. Not just one or two items, but be able to strip someone and take as much gear as you can carry.

And, you should be able to gank newbs, and anyone that is 10 levels above you or more, can totally pwn you, and you can't even do one point of damage to them.

Put everything in it, like stealth, crowd control, and the ability to one shot another player with the right set up. All the stuff that most players cry about.

The graphics dont' need to be bleeding edge, because the sort of players that like this game are more concerned about gameplay than graphics.

We just need one of these games, and we can send all the "hardcore" players that complain about RvR or carebears, or whatever, to that game.

There really isn't anything out, or even in development that I know of, that fits this bill. Not just an after thought FFA server, but a game actually designed to be like this, a real pain in the arse for the casual player that doesn't want to get ganked every 5 minutes. I think there's enough players looking for this sort of gameplay, that it could make a buck. It's not going to be really popular, and it's definitely a niche, but I think it's a niche that needs to be filled.

No offense to the griefers and gankers out there. Seriously, someone needs to make this game.

A game just like you are talking about will appear when there are many enough people willing to spend their monney for playing such game.

Imo, Asherons Call is the game that has it all, it has the best loot system I have seen in any game, it has hevy quests and stuff for those who like playing in large groups, it is very casual friendly (no penalties for playing solo, you still got a change to find uber loot) it supports small groups. It has loads of quests, it has amazing skill system, it has very smooth gameplay,I dont think any game out there beats it in anything but the graphics, alltho the graphics are ok, remember the game is allmost 10 years old.  I did play asherons call from when it was only few months old and left it about 5 years ago and have played all major titles released since then and never stayed very long in any one game exept eq2 and vanguard. 3 months ago I did some serious thinking about the mmo's I had played and canceled my eq2 and vanguard accounts and resubscribed on my 2 old AC accounts and that was for me very fun.I have not even thought about trying AoC and will not play any of those title released the rest of this year but will stay in Dareth:-)

AC is not a game for everyone it is very complex and new players might find it very hard to play, if you dont know the game when you create your first character it would most likely be very much gimp. I will play AC till they turn of the servers:-)

Have a fun playing what ever game you choose to play .-))

There ARE WoW clones. EQ2 was one. They took an awesome game, (EQ1) and changed into a WoW clone for it's sequel, to compete against Blizzard. I played both games. They are very similar. And yes, most mmorpgs are WoW clones these days. I know the difference between WoW clone and just "2 games in the same genre"

EQ2 was released months before WoW, I cant see how eq2 can be a wow clone!

I can agree some, but time is changing, most people dont want to the game forcing them to play in large groups or beeing a member of the most powerful guild in the universe to be able to find some loot.Imo, when someone will release a good game with good quests and good grinding and rewarding for the players and not only the elite players then that game will grow and grow :-)

I do not like or dislike pvp but I never do any pvp myself, the reason is that my choose of games are mmorpg fantasy games. What drags me to those games is the fact you have a huge world to discover and loads of different quests to solve on your own or with your friends. If the main goal for any game is pvp then it is no reason to make a huge world with dragons and stuff in it,  arena would do fine.So the optinal pvp game would be counter strike or some game like that where the game is designed for pvp and very balanced.Few years ago when I played SWG, I just arrived to the shuttle landing point at endor where I was going to get some dna samples for my bio-engineer skill.A player came to me and asked me if we could duel, I told the guy I dont play pvp, he asked again please just for fun, I did say ok and called my two best pets, then he told me you cant use those, we were just to duel for fun!  Well that would be same as telling a priest in everquest that he cant heal vile you duel with him. Those pets in SWG were my only weapons I had no other skill I possible could have used in the duel with that guy.Again pvp does not bother me but I personly stay away from games that focus to much on pvp.

Darkfall is a full time pvp, most mmorpg players never even try pvp the most of the players dislike pvp, so I se no future for this kind of games in the mmorpg genre. However a single server game of this kind could have a change of sucsess, but not if you need more than10k subscribers.

tell that to the people who play shadowbane. You under estimate the player base for a full on pvp game.

How many  subscribers does shadowbane have? I dont play that game but as far as I know it is a free to play game, they had to do that after only few months from release.

I have nothing against pvp games, but there are no pvp mmorpg outthere only pve games with an option to pvp for those that wish.

It is the solo and small group content that counts, as soon as those who like small groups and solo content feel like there is no more for them to do here they move on. The raid content is for the remaining 20% of the players.

There is no such thing as a WOW clone since that game did copy all it stuff from allredy existing games.

I pose this question in light of my own conclusions about the majority of 'modern' MMOs, where the entire set of 'content' that one can play is fashioned to be from the perspective of a single player as opposed to multiple players. Whether we're talking about Tabula Rasa or talking about Vanguard, or Everquest 2 or even World of Warcraft. Each one of these MMOs can be effectively played solo with no need to even have the chat window open save for to bicker with others if one so chooses. This observation makes me wonder where MMO developers went wrong, by that I mean that the entire point of MMOs is the MASSIVELY MULTIPLAYER aspect of the 'genre' (I use this loosely), where you're stuck with strangers and suppose to cooperate in some function to win out over extraordinary odds. Yet, this doesn't pan out like it anymore. I doubt it has anything to do with the playerbases getting older otherwise people would become total shut-ins in real life, so I'm puzzled by this development. Is it because it makes development easier for the companies? Or is it because they're trying to appeal to the largest segments of the market? I have my own ideas on it, but I rather see what you all have to say.

Neither  Vanguard or EQ2 does support solo playing. Those games alow you to level your character but you will not find any decent loot in those games if you play solo.

Even if this game delivers what it promise it will not be a great sucsess, the fact that game has free pvp will disscurage lot of people from even trying the free trial.

I would vote skillbased, but I could not vote here since there were no option to vote without suporting SWG's skill system. However the skill system in AC1 appeals to me.

I agree, when people reach high level and find out that the only way to improve your character is to raid, then there are not many options for you. Those who like to raid do so and are happy ever after, but those who dont like to raid or cant, due to rl social stuff. Those cancel their account.I think there should be options here. And not like it is to day in most games, gray or green stuff for soloers, blue oar yellow for groupers, and the red and orange or what ever gear for the raiders. This is wrong. I have nothing against raids, but those who cant raid need to be rewarded for what they do and not with gray or green stuff. This results in that about 50% of the players cancel their account when it comes to endgame and that is not good for those who like to raid.

Imo, wow is not even close to be the best, but it is the most pupular,so I guess there has to be something wrong with me and not the game.I did cancel wow after only 2 months of playtime.I have played many games and only Heroes online and Silk road did I cancel after shorter period of playtime than Wow.

Take care:-)

Every now and then someone post on some forum that he/she thinks most mmorpg's lack solo content. In few minutes this person gets lots of flames about, why do you play onlinegames if you want to solo!! and so on. I have been playing some mmorpg's  for the last few years and I think this question "why do you play mmorpg's if you want to solo" is very relevant and same goes for why do you want to play mmorpg's if you want to raid? Look what happens in all endgames, people get together in a raid guild, 20-100 (even more)people per guild and more or less do nothing but raiding with their guild.I am not saying that there is something wrong with this, but why do those guilds have to be on a multiplayer server, why cant those just been put on a small server, a guild server or something? What I have learnd from the last few games I have played is that when you quit solo and you join those raids you quit beeing playing mmo,and start playing small raid game. Not very fun in my opinion but it seem like most people love this.So why not skip the level 1-50 and let those who love the raids jump in and do that as soon as they install the game?

Yake care:-)

I domt think wow will ever be in danger! WoW is not in competition with the other online games out there,it has their own public and I dont think that will change much. I did play wow few years ago and i did like it very much, but after about 3 months of playing it was game over for me so I went on to other games. For lot of people this game seem to have endless of content"I never found that content during the 3 months I played"some have played it for years without beeing bored, that is good"for blizzard". So I see no reason why all those people who have found this endless of content in WoW all of the sudden would not find anymore! Wow is in my opinion a good game that grabbed lot fof people and kept it within the game, no other game has managed to keep this folkmass playing therir game without adding anything to the game over the years it has been out.Look at games released at same time as wow, like everquest2"I am not playing everquest 2 now" ewerquest2 has at least 10x more content than wow has. That in my opinion makes WoW the greartest game ever,it sells 10 000 000 exemplar and keeps about 500 000 people playing it att least 500 000 active accounts and WoW is a game with about no game content at all! Amazing. Hurray Blizzard you did won a big.

Blazt.
