When a new client version is released, servers go from Full populaton status to Low, because the bot softwares don't work for a few days (until new version). Enough said... Also, massive petitioning is used as an out of game war tool against enemies... and it works, sadly. Support is the worst I've ever met in a game. They must have the worst game masters over all the world. About gameplay, PvP is really the best I've found in a rpg. Maybe it would be better to say "fun" and not "the best". This is because the classes are very imbalanced. At massive pvp, numbers are very important. Even with all these flaws, pvp in the game is fun. But I think two days of pvp are not worth 15 days of mindless grind. Specially when death penalties (drops) are so harsh with a so difficult economy. You ask about healers. Well, I had a bishop, that is a very specialized healer class. At level 55+ you cannot do anything alone and you really need the support of a clan to develop your character as a bishop. A healer's life is very difficult, as people can easily be one-two shotted because of level difference. But the main mission of the bishop is to ress people, as he has the max % XP recovery at resses, but for that you need to be higher level. If you like to play "hit the mole" with the party life bars, then go for it. |

@apertotes: since you ask, my problem with eve skills is not the unability to catch veterans unless I specialise in a different path. As others point out, the skills offer not much improvement difference between the level 4 and level 5 so the advantage that a veteran with lvl5 skills would get over me is not so critical, specially in group PvP where tactic, coordination and setup fittings are more important. For me it's just that some skills take too long to train. Necessary prerequisite skills that otherwise I wouldn't train. Skills that take weeks/monkts to train are too much of a time sink for me in order to be willing to pay the monthly fee. And other problems like the pirate gank fest, or the shameless scams within poor game mechanics link. But this is another issue. |

In my opinion, the debate PvP vs PvE games exists because 1) current games are a mixture of both and 2) "your game experience may change during gameplay". Ultima Online began as a FFA and player driven economy to carebear and item based (because of trammel and insurances). WoW went from open world PvP to a watered down instanced unreal tournament over and over against the same people and with queues (because of the battlegrounds, honor points and dishonorable kills at cities, and also the technical reason of server crashes when 200+ people gather). Lineage2 has the most interesting and meaninful PvP out there, with clan wars, castle sieges and fights over raid bosses, but at the same time it has hardcore korean level grind (aka bots) and hell-economy (aka ebay and farmers) which are not fun when too many people cheat. Developers are not able to find balance between both aspects of the game, so people whine. Consensual or instanced PvP just puts all the weight on one side of the balance and cancels most of the fun and surprise factor. |

The main problem with faction based games (ala WoW) is that a lot of times I wish I could kill the retard I have next to me and join the opposite group. It frustates me a lot not being able to do so, and because of this I do not play anymore games without FFA. Like posted above FFA doesn't mean free loot, it means that you choose who you play with and against. |

lol? But good point in general. Not about the too many carebear unexciting boring games, couldn't care less, but about the too few exciting and fun games nowadays. |

This sounds more like a meeting at Blizzard about WoW That should sum up quite nicely why DDO is losing players (and it is).
They're charging people $15 a month for less of a game than what
Guildwars already offers people for free. We WARNED them during beta
that this would happen. And we warned the Sheeple not to waste their
money.
Anyway it's the same: xx$/month with free updates, or free with pay/expansion. It's not about the money, it's about the fun. If you play mmorpgs chances are you have plenty of free time/money. |

So many farmers, bots (farmers and no farmers) and ebayers that it's disgusting. Very sad for regular players when whole alliances fight and conquer castles upon ebay. What is worse, major alliances don't see this as a problem and won't
kick ebayers/botters since doing so would mean to disolve the whole
alliance. You can play legit with legit players, but then you'll end in
a carebear guild to become a non-factor. But the thing is that if you are not interested in politics and pvp, then have fun with the hardcore grind. Other than these little details, it would be the best game out there |

Feel free to feel comfortable with idiots not only in this board but also ingame :p Yeah, just close your eyes at bots, ebayers and scammers... Just as NCSoft does :-/ It's a feature after all. Sorry to burst your bubble, but although the game is very good, the community management and zero cheater control destroys the gaming experience. |

Features: *Leveling system broken because of powerleveling. Just party AFK with a high lvl character. Or level up with people of your same level if you do not have proper social in-game relations and then take 100x time to level. Not to speak about bots (very used in farmer parties where just one guy can handle them). Bots are allowed if you do not leave them AFK and can answer the game master inquiries. *Economic system broken because of the shitload of farmers and everybody and his mother ebaying gold. Now they also farm raid bosses, yahooo! Note I do not have anything against farmers, but their over presence has concequences. Annoying vendor system where hundreds of people remain AFK in every city at their selling spots. *Frustating crafting system (%succes rate at endgame crafting recipes) that needs many many reagents in quantities only reachable for farming (carebear/chinese) guilds. *Little variety of armor and weapons. Top grade ones overpriced (ebay). Little choice when armor and weapons have so much importance. *Interface that uses the F keys to cast actions. Nearly no customization at all of the interface. Poing&click movement. One actions/spell queue. No skills involved, the one with better weapon/armor/overpowered class wins. Anyway: *Carebears die in this game. It's good!! *You can also be a griefer!!!!!! But if you are griefed by a main clan, be ready to leave the server. Karma system useless in this situation. *Castle sieges, nice if you do not mind all the above. HAha. All in all: *Plz... If you already have ingame relations I suppose it's ok to continue playing the game. But begin from zero with all the issues posted above is crazy. *The newbe buffs and item renew system for 1st time characters is useless. Well, actually farmers take advantage of the newbe buffs. *Like a korean said sometime ago, "in korea people do not play lineage for fun, they play it for money". So, in my opinion, forget you ever heard about a game called Lineage 2. You can bypass the hard leveling (haha, joke, it never ends). You can bypass the hard money farming. You just need to know the right people and the right procedures. You can ebay as a procedure, but be ready to spend hundreds of $$. The rest of mortals be ready for the largest timesink ever existed and with little rewards or fun. |

If I just read the OP post, then I have kind of agree with some conditions. Just look at all the korean Lineage 2 clones out there. But at the same time I don't think L2 is a horrible game or that all these clones are bad for the industry (mind you I don't care about "the industry") or for me. In any case you should give thanks to Blizzard and NCsoft for bringing so many new MMORPG players into the scenario and for setting such a high features mark :p The question is, does all the work put into those clones go against work possibly invested otherwise (case of no "big hit" game existence) into a new rich feature game? Being honest, no. |
