Sorry couldn't resist with all the Wow vs. WAR posts.  Two different games, no point to argue :-)

So are there PVE/PVP servers?  Read a review where a player was describing a PQ with Orcs/Dwarves in the same zone.  Mentioned he had to wait for the Dwarves to flag.

Is there a PVP server where you don't have to "wait" for someone to opt-in?

Thx

I've been playing gamesworkshop games for about 19 years.  When I first logged into WoW three years ago.. my first response was.. "This looks like warhammer fantasy".

I agree to the progression statement.. Specifically as it pertains to WoW.  Mindlessly killing Bloodelves for hours on end for signet drops to turn in for Scryer reputation isn't a grind... it's progression.  Mindlessly killing unstable Voidwalkers for hours to collect 'motes of shadow', of which I need 80 at a %20 droprate isn't a grind... it's progression.

yea.. right.

Wow are people still debating why WoW was successful?  IT is pretty simple.

I will make it easy for you guys.  World of Warcraft had the most advertising for any MMO game ever.  Every single person that plays on Battle Net was getting advertisements for World of Warcraft.  That is free advertising to over 20 million people.  Those 20 million told their friends and Blizzard was able to keep over 8 million of them as subscribers to WoW.  That is the trick that Blizzard used.  Nothing else.  They put out a polished product (but honestly it could of been covered in dog crap) and had an audience entirely to themselves.

No other MMO company could touch that type of advertising campaign.   To make a simple comparison that would be like Microsoft putting out an MMO and everytime you loaded up windows you saw the Ad for the game.  If Microsoft actually did that they would have an MMO with more subscribers then WoW has.

I don't know why people try to make it difficult.  They could of reversed the two games entirely and Blizzard would of still had the hit and SOE would not.

Heck Blizzard could of released DnL or Horizons with the Warcraft name and the same AD Campaign and it would be the Biggest MMO in the world.

EVeryone seems to discount the almighty advertisement.  It is truely the main key to Blizzard's success.  THink about it.  World of Warcraft otherwise is everything people hated about Everquest 1 (raid grinding being the main thing) with none of the good stuff from EQ1 (like world exploration) and yet the game is still huge.

This man speaks the truth!  Wow attracted ALOT of first time MMOers via Battlenet.  Which is pretty funny as a WoW player myself, and a LONGtime MMOer.. you see alot of players that feel WoW is the 'be all/end all' MMO, but have never played anything else?  I talk to players ingame that have never heard of EQ1/EQ2, MxO, SWG, etc.

I particularly didn't like EQ1/EQ2, particulary the inability to solo.  I had a friend that begged me to play WoW forever!  I just avoided it, cartoony looking game with crap PvP.. After my SWG/MxO days ended I gave it a try...  I was right, cartoony game with crap PvP.. I still have an account, and login casually.. why?  friends and no other MMO seems interesting.

I will def signup for AoC and WAR when they become avail, and stick with the one I like best.  I don't think I'll ever purchase another SOE game.

I absolutely loved this game, but quit for one reason only.   I'm red/green colorblind and it was really difficult to utilize the hud.  I made a comment on the forums back in the day, has this changed?

As I understand the PVP system, you are awarded "Blood Money" via player kills, which allow you to purchase gear/items designed for PVP.  The reverse however is if you loose a battle you LOOSE "Blood Money".  Negative XP so to speak is typically negative.  While a minimal loss would be a good thing, I hope the losses are so great that it creates a hole from which a player cannot dig him/herself out of.

I quit playing.  No big conspiracy theories here, just looked at the situation (read all the background info, didn't go on heresay), how it was handled.  Couple things I had a problem with so I stopped playing, primarily a player publically posting another players personal information without any reprecussions. To me, that should be pretty straightforward.

I had just started too, 1 month 25 days.  It was probably one of the better MMO's I played.  Only negatives I had with the game were travel times (really got sick of jumping sometimes), and personally think the community left alot to be desired.

If you don't have a problem with CCP/EvE then cool, have fun.  If you do have a problem, stop playing.  No reason to beat a dead horse.  I personally don't know what's worse, the people who are sooo pissed and can't let it go(and keep playing), or the fanboi's that you would swear had some stock option plan the way they defend CCP.

"Of course CCP is concerned that there is community dis-satisfaction with some of the answers we have given to the community, and yes we are also concerned about the amount of press this has generated for us."

If your gonna "Talk the Talk, then Walk the Walk".  I keep seeing these wonderfully constructed "We're concerned.." "We care.." posts, but never any action.  Look at the main thread that was started over this issue, 100+ pages long.  Alot of players asked good questions, and voiced real concerns, NONE we're answered.  The thread was locked with an obligatory, "We're glad this discussion took place, and we can move on."

Wonder if they will address concerns such as ...

In my opinion Eve won't fold due to people quitting over recent issues.  Players tend to get hotheaded even when they're justified, but don't put that to action.  Players see it as an investment of time, and can't just turn their back on 1-3 years of time invested to advance their characters.

What will hurt Eve is influx of new players.  Eve will forever be known as the game where developers log in and cheat, particular corps(guilds) are favored, as well as cheating GMs.  Whether or not how accurate (unfortunately alot of this is), the same type of players who value their investment of time, will not even give the game a try, and will look elsewhere.

The sad thing is CCP really could have squashed this, and come out looking great.  They should've been completely open and apologetic, and reaffirmed their commitment to their customers from day one, and this would have been a nonissue.

I couldn't agree more, there shouldn't be Horde and Alliance.  There should be Team 1 and Team A (so nobody can be perceived as being 'second').  All Avatars should look alike, with a floating '1' or 'A' above their head to designate which side they are on... Also all weapons must look alike and cannot contain any color.  Avatars likewise should be featureless and a neutral grey in color.   Players should not be allowed to choose a name for their character, as a name may cause another player to 'feel' or 'perceive' him/herself inferior.. (i.e. 'pwnunub').

Lastly, for fear that WoW goals may be to hard to obtain, and shatter the delicate self esteem of our children, upon finishing all raids it should rain 'good job' epics, whether or not group wiped.

.

What is scary, some ppl out there may think these are valid suggestions.  Unfortunately I think the player that brought this up, is a IRL friend of mine.  If so, I will smack him in the head when I see him after work!

Don't care if he's banned or not, what does matter to me is that a player was aloud to post another players personal information and is still allowed to play.

That was enough for me to cancel my subscription.  Played for a month an half.

btw, just mah $0.02.  Piss or get off the Pot.  If you think this is wrong instead of starting polls, and bitching about how corrupt the game is quit, or shutup.

I find it funny how everyone is up in arms, and CCP is laughing all the way to the bank.  They handled this horribly, and don't care.. why, cause all the lemmings who believe it's wrong will continue to play.

Funny thing is.. up until last week, I thought Band of Brothers was a great book by S.Ambrose lol.

I totally agree with the community comments. I still have my MxO account, but have been primarily playing WoW. I've played a few other MMO's, and the MxO community is leaps and bounds the best MMO community I've experienced. I defeinitely agree with Sift. People stay onboard for community, RP, and storyline. The great playerbase is the only reason I've been reluctant to cancel my account.

I was really looking forward to this game, but I've gotten the impression that it's not really an MMO. Is this correct? Is it just a city where you are getting quests to goto instanced dungeons? Or is this misleading information. I'm just looking for some clarification to help my purchasing decesion. Is it worth getting, or should I just wait for NWN2 to play D&D with my buddies?
