Mark his words - this is exactly what will happen.

Wow!! Deja-vu!! Didn't this also happen when EA bought out Westwood? EA canned EnB soonthereafter. I wouldn't hold out much hope for WAR. EA doesn't know how to run a MMO.

As soon as developers stop trying to mimic WoW's success and simply go back to making games that are just plain fun, we'll have better MMO's - plain and simple. IMO, most new MMO's suck because they are simply trying too hard. Just make a damn fun game...

I concur completely.

Yet another good reason to quit WoW.

Keep in mind, this is EA now. Yeah EA has a new CEO but the same actions that occurred under Probst are still occuring. Until EA can prove it can run its own MMO's I'm not getting my hopes up.

Lowering the raid cap and BG's ruined WoW for me. It's more like a single player game where others are there than an MMO now. Good fun while it lasted though.

Trying to compare WoW's timeframe to DF would be like comparing a house's to a mansion's. DF has some wealthy investors and has done some past work for the greek military.

All I'm saying is that 8 years is a long time to get a MMO to the shelves. Was it "next generation" 8 years ago or is it still next generation?

If I thought it would help to make a good MMO, I'd do it. Sorry but I couldn't go past the I'd loan people I play with money question. Too wierd for me.

99% of the MMO's are fantasy for some strange reason. I'm afraid you and I will have to wait. Eventually, developers will stop trying to copy WoW and we'll see more of a selection to choose from.

Read some of the beta reviews - appearantly it wasn't that great anyway. One less fantasy MMO on the market is no big loss to me.

Personally, I would suggest you wait. I would bet current MMO's won't live up to your past experience in EQ and you'll just be dissappointed. The MMO market seems to be in a bit of a slump right now. Not the best time to make a return IMO.

Nothing EA does surpries me anymore. If I could pick one gaming company to remove - it would be EA. Personally, I wouldn't mind in-game advertising, but collecting data to send me ads when I'm a paying subscriber already is just plain rediculous. But then again, this is EA - not surprised at all.

Question - were the in-game ads to play Madden 2008? ROFL

Gamers don't use these two games as benchmarks but unfortunately, developers do. So every new game that a developer makes incorporates (or clones) ascpects of these games in hopes that their game will be the next hit. As soon as a developers stop trying to mimic the success of these two games we'll have better MMO's.

Colored text FTL - I agree with the OP. Since WoW, the selection of games to choose from is poor at best. Seems developers try to top WoW instead of just making fun MMO's.
