I think it will be a good thing if the "features" were separate or in another place than in the general game "news". I'm proposing this considering that the features, that can be rightly put as news, are getting "bumped" for the entire day they appear. (Yes, I saw your scheme...) With this in place, I'm missing some news thinking there was none out after the features.

So what I'm asking, suggesting, would be to let the features go down in the list as the day passes (1), remove the features from the news since there is already a section dedicated for them (2) or make a new section for news that are features or exclusives for the day (3) which is my preferred choice. As a frequent news checker, I am almost not even looking at the top of the main page. Therefore, the last two options should be seriously considered.

Thank you for changing this. Looking forward to the "Latest MMORPG.com exclusives" section just besides general news.

How much time did it take and still no word from Auran?

Actually, yes. It is part of the strategy to run before him and get all the heals he could take. You can also mute, stun, root that person. You will see how well you feel when you succeed in doing so, even if he kills you later on. I just started the game last wednesday, but I know this strategy is something that helps winning.

And to get back on the original subject, Auran has a customer service? I didn't know they knew what communication is. "Realm" down for three days and no word from them? They won't listen to the complaints...

Emilin, you are right. neoMesis should really try to reduce his number of words per post. Answering each time six lines for a one-line reply is a little to much.

That being said... Emilin, Sword of the New World is not a pirate game! If you want eyepatched characters, go play the pirate-based games already out or wait for those that are not to do so. SotNW is a post-colonisation game in a baroque setting. The art designers of the game tried to reconstruct this feel through the game. Everything "needs" to be pretty. If you don't like this style, you won't like the graphics.

You realized that the textures were "nice and crisp". Me too and it's the first thing I saw when I decided to finally try this game this week. If you want them to look even better, turn off the bloom effect. Yes, it can be turned off through the option menu. I personnaly play with it off.

And before I end this reply, I want to say that you can have your scar people if you want. You can even take them in your family. The gun seller, Najib Sharif, and the sword seller, Claude Baudez, both have only one eye and you can clearly see their scar.

But I don't think that all this will convince you to try the game again, even though that wasn't my goal.

I have not played FFXI for two years now, but I still can answer most of your questions.

1. I am not aware of any buddy key and don't think it exists for the game. However, there are events that normally come each year for two months that lets players invite friends to the game.

2. You pay for each expansion that wasn't included in your original box or, added recently, for the ones that you didn't pay the registration codes on PlayOnline, the game connection service. Not having the latest expansion will "only" make you not able to do the quests related to its story or play on the new zones. Some features will still be available for everyone like new items, armors, but I can not say more than this.

3. I do not know. You should read the detailed information about the kit.

4. It is heavy grind and you will wait for parties before you can do anything. However, what kept me playing for 6 months, made me come back for 2 months and constantly makes me think of coming back is the story of the game. When "I" was in parties to "level up", I always thought that I needed to do so to be able to do the next mission given by my nation, the prosperous, beautiful, marvelous, magnificent kingdom of San d'Oria... I got carried away... This is only to show you how much it is fun and rewarding to see the next in-game cinematic and increase your rank to the eyes of your nation.

Writing this right now makes me realize that you asked a question that could take a full and dedicated post to answer. So, I'll just say that... all the quests makes you see the NPC talk to you and his expression, only some of the "quests" are "in-depth questing", none of the "quests", in my memory and knowledge, takes you to instanced zones, "missions" are all in-depth quests that really often makes you see in-game cinematics or cut scenes and generally, only "mission" bosses and some "notorious monsters" take you to instances.

There is a difference between quests and missions. Missions are there to reveal the stories and quests to annoy you because they are hard to do and not rewarding for most... (the explanation could be much longer and nuanced than just this)

5. No, your machine is 5 years late and I'm even surprised that you think of playing FFXI with this. You will only get 5 frames per second and need to rebboot your pc after 30 minutes to clean the memory.

Joking. How can you hesitate on this point? Yes it will surpass. I saw in another thread that your benchmark score was "incredibly tough" or something like that. It means what it means... for this game at least.

6. Hair(?), face(?), height (small, medium, tall) and race(5) are customizable. I don't know about Wings of the Goddess. I don't think anyone does yet. But I'll say no.

7. No

8. Not in my knowledge. The only options that we could change when I last played were resolution, texture size and view range(I think). The game was designed with PS2 in mind. Oh, and the game is DirectX 8 based, so shader 3.0... It came with DirectX 9, isn't it?

9. I don't play now but no, it's never late. There are a lot of LVL 75 players from what I read but they often play with other jobs so... they need to start strong. LVL 1. The game "should" not be deserted with the amount of content given to players.

10. The summoned creature acts like pet or minion. They consume some MP to stay and require your MP for special attacks or spells. I don't know precisely about Shiva.

11. No. PVP through Ballista and related.

For anything I did not answer, ask someone else as I am not playing right now. But I still gave you a lot of information didn't I?

There is a mistake in the direct download link. It gives the previous show of 8th August. The correct link should be this one:

http://media.libsyn.com/media/gameon/GameOn_August11th2007.mp3

I didn't listen it yet, so I will not comment right now.

Everyone! Go see this video of the opening cinematic of the game (as stated on the official site). It gives insights on the story and how all started with the Bane invasion. If we can get videos like this once in a while during gameplay, Tabula Rasa will be incredible!

Gamespot exclusive video here!

Strangely, about what did we talked in Game/On this week, among the many subjects of the show? Not Tabula Rasa. Richard Garriott, of course! We can't get enough... I'll stop now or you might think that I'm against "my friend Richard"... I should really stop...

Back on the replies, I know that many games were created by known persons and that they use their names to present their games. But in this case, the name of the person is in the name of the game. I also know that it is common for many games to call themselves with the name of the known person in it. It is just that this is the first time it happens for a MMO, am I wrong?

I don't know what this is, the content of the image, or what it "really" relates to, but I'll still had a clarification on the text seen in French.

Just after the symbol of infinity, the French phrases are:
Qu'est ce que ça veut dire?
    Qui sont les Huits?

They translate into:
    What does it mean?
    Who are the Eights?

And I want to precise that:
- when we say "qu'est ce" in French, we need to put a hypen between "qu'est" and "ce" resulting in "qu'est-ce"; it is a mistake that fluent French speakers shouldn't make and usually don't make
- "Huits" is starting with a capital H meaning that the Eights is a named group of "persons", or beings...
- lastly, I don't know why I "wasted" my time to write this; maybe the fantasy... yes, the fantasy...

Recently, today, I've been thinking that Richard Garriott was to much seen when I hear comments or interviews about the game. It feels like he's the only one working on the game. I understand that he is a great man for the role-playing game scene, even if I didn't know him before "Tabula Rasa", but he is only one, single, man. Where are the other people? Never heard of them.

And now, things are getting "worse". I don't know if I've been passing over this after all the time I spent getting information about the game, but it is not called simply Tabula Rasa anymore. It is called Richard Garriott's Tabula Rasa. See for yourself on the official site.

I am not saying that the name change is not good. In fact, considering everything I've written, they needed to do this to better commercialize the game. They have a great figure in their team who is building a deep story and should "exploit" this to their great advantage. But, again, he is not alone. Where is the team? This name change will only make the other developpers more invisible than they currently are right now...

UPDATE

The close beta will not launch January 23rd. Possible launch in February. The previous final release date set to March 2007 is now undetermined.

It seems that the date of January 23rd was accurate in December, and in the press release, but an earthquake made communications difficult in the beginning of January delaying their operations.

Anime Desho Desho? Tsubaki works for Granado Espada.sg!

GranadoEspada.cc Closed Beta starts on 23th, Singapore CB Delayed

So... We can't play NA-EU version. We can't play SG version. The only choices left are to wait, again (and again), or to play the Korean or Japanese version and miss everything of the story, quests, dialogues if we can't understand these languages.

Also, Granado Espada South-East Asia is also open for Australia and New Zealand players or rather, the scope of the GE-SEA server includes AU and NZ.

What I didn't quite understood is the OP's "ASEAN" comment. It sounds like our blog network is an ASEAN blog. No, we are not affiliated with the ASEAN, we're not politically attached to anyone.

I didn't mean to say you (I guess I can say that now) are affiliated to ASEAN but that the press release is from them, written by them, is it not? It was in the category of press releases and ASEAN+. And for the fiability of the "source", there was two parts of it: the blog and ASEAN. I know I can trust the blog now, thank you for your reply, but how accurate was ASEAN in this press release (see the first post about beta sign-ups)?

Message to NA/EU team(s?) of Granado Espada english launch:

Please hurry to show yourself officially because if I'm able to play the SG version before yours, it will be harder for me to stop playing theirs to play yours! Thank you.

k2newb, I would really like to know where you get all these informations about the game. How come you know there is another english version coming out? Are you working for the company responsible for it? Beta testing maybe? The only fact I'm sure right now is that I can't wait to play the game...

I am not sure that this source should be relied on, but anything on Granado Espada is worth knowing. From what seems to be a press release of the ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations), "IAH has already received more than 20,000 sign-ups for Granado Espada’s closed beta testing, which commences on 23rd January 2007."

The problem is that the press release is dated of the 20th December and it is at this date that they "began" their survey for beta entrance... In my case, I hope it is not true or accurate anymore, if it even was, since I want to play the game right now and in english at least. Let's all hope for a January 12 2007 close beta start!

Here is the press release:
http://gameshogun.ws/Business/2006/12/29/granado_espada_the_mmorpg_wins_top_prize

Singapore, 20 December 2006 – The eagerly-anticipated massive multiplayer online role-playing game, Granado Espada, has won Korean gaming industry’s most prestigious prize – the Grand Prix, at the 2006 Korea Game Awards on Monday night.

Awarded by the President of South Korea, Roh Moo-hyun, the prize represents a first ever win for Granado Espada’s creator, Hakkyu Kim, who is also the creator of Ragnarok Online, one of the most popular MMORPG in South East Asia.

Granado Espada beat other popular games such as Ninety Nine Nights, Zera and Sudden Attack to clinch the evening’s top prize. Granado Espada also won the Technology Creative Award for Graphics in the annual awards ceremony, which is in its third year.

Kim said: “This prestigious award leaves me speechless, as I have never been lucky with awards. There are so many good games with great graphics. I was only hoping that we could win for music (OST).”

The game had its commercial launch for Korea in July this year.

The English version of the game will be distributed by Infocomm Asia Holdings (IAH), which holds the exclusive distribution rights for the game in six South East Asian countries as well as Australia and New Zealand. Without any publicity or marketing, IAH has already received more than 20,000 sign-ups for Granado Espada’s closed beta testing, which commences on 23rd January 2007.

Roland Ong, CEO of IAH, said: “We are very happy that Granado Espada received the recognition which it is due and I would like to extend my congratulations to Hakkyu Kim. It proves that Granado Espada is a quality product and it also validates our philosophy to only license top products for the South East Asia market.”

Granado Espada is the first game which IAH will launch. It has also obtained the licence to Hellgate: London, which is being developed by the makers of the hugely successful PC game, Diablo. The company has also recently obtained the licence for a third game Emil Chronicle Online, which is distributed by Gravity, the publishers of Ragnarok Online.
