So they let PVP whiners ruin the lore of this game too, eh? I dislike pvp'ers. . . they ruin everything.

Amazing aspect of the game that ties in interestingly very well with the other spheres, IF one pays attention to why they're doing the adventure quests or the crafting work orders.

Again: the flaw seems to be using the term "MMO" as a substitute for mmoRPG. What you are basically claiming by using MMO as synonomous wtih RPG is the same as stating that all games, period, should conform to the ideals that you have for gaming. There is no flaw in the example givin, except if I were to ubiquitously apply to every known variable in gaming or in real life. Which, I believe in the body of the post, I more than handled explaining that I was not. The thread is absurd. Example being if I posted on a blog site for FPS's that I wished that they would take out the pesky aspect of having it first-person because that style of play gives me a headache. (which is does, ergo I do not play them). MMO=massively multiplayer online. RPG=Role-Playing game. Fighting games. See, like Tekken or Mortal Combat, in those types of games you start out the exact same as when you end. You, as the player, get better at the controls, but the avatar is the same from start to finish. The game engine challenges you by making the opponants harder, and if you want to go further youl as the player, need to become better. But, I digress. The fact that this needs to be said, is what makes this thread Absurd. Do I sometimes wish that Game Developers would be more creative with their game's "advancement" journey? Yes. Do I think every RPG is great? No? But it is the Genre I prefer. T. (ps I do not, nor would I claim, think that the OP is absurd, or say anything negative about him) |

Leveling is not only a true gaming concept, but one of the main concepts that seperates the RPG genre from all the other genres. So much that, if one were to divorce leveling from a game it would cease to be an RPG. The letters "RPG" are not arbitrary letters stuck at the end of "MMO". They stand for Role-Playing Game, which is a distinct classification of games. I know that some people who now play MMO(RPG)'s may not realize that this genre has existed before "MMO" was placed in the front. Its what makes "Sorry" different from "Hero's Quest" or Axis and Allies different than PnP DnD. They are different TYPES of games. Other genre's of games include: Sports, which would cease to be sports if one were to take out a scoring system that ended in a certain winner and loser. FPS (First-Person Shooter), which would cease to be a FPS by simply making it not first person. ETC. Now, I am not claiming that genres can't crossover or borrow aspects from other games. An FPS that borrows from RPG (for example: Deux Ex) can be a quite spectacular experiences. But if one were to take that FPS/RPG and take out the first person aspect of it, than it would not be an FPS/(anything). Just as if one were to take out the leveling and continued advancement and improvment of the main character, it is no longer an RPG. I played RPG's before there were MMORPG'S and it was the RPG aspect that attracted me to this Genre. If a game were advertised as an mmoRPG and it did not have some sort of advancement (skill-based or leveling) than it would not appeal to me. Which is why I do not play MMOsports, or MMOFPS, or MMORTS, or MMOplatform, or any of the myriad of other genre's that did not appeal to me before they were MMO/whatevers. It seems to me that if a person is playing a game and wished not to level, and be uber from the get go, than what they really want is not an RPG at all, they want an MMOplatformer, or some other such game that would appeal to their playstyle(s). this thread is absurd. I would never go to a sports gaming blog site and post anything as ridiculous as: I think that sport games spend to much time scoring points, I want a sports game where I am the winner from the beginning and not have to actually compete, or score any points at all. See, that defies not only the very essence of the genre, but logic. T |

I have stopped playing. I don't complain or post in official forums. I listen, read, research, and make decisions. There is a quote is someone's profile to the this effect: I do not need to know how to design a game, (or in this case what's 'best' for the game) all I need to know how to do is hit the cancel button. I voted against the direction of the game by cancelling my subcription. Not because I think that I know better, or that my arrogance knows no bounds, but because it simply becomes un-fun. It is no longer a game that I am interested in for my personal entertainment purposes. And was it because of the introduction of the Rune-Keeper? Yes, but not primarily in the aspect one would immiedetly assume. It breaks trust. What next?

I keep reading about this game and how amazing it is and a breath of fresh air and the game you've been looking for etc. It seems to have successfully overcome its initial release. However. It is by SOE. With that being said can a VG fan explain to me in bullets points, what makes this game so good? What makes it different? Why is this the game I've been looking for. If you have played VG since the release and are still not satisfied, tell me why. I want a comprehensive Vangaurd critique. Hopefully an Honest one.
Thanks in Advance. T |

I have noticed that there have been alot less angry vet posts as of late. So to them I have a question, Keep in mind that I am posting in the vets section on purpose. Question: All right I got to through the character creation screen, and the initial small box "connecting" notice, but I seem to be getting hung up on the "the now connecting" splash page. It been three years, but I think the circular thing at the bottom is supposed to fill in, but I don't remember. . . Any advice. See you soon. T |

Never really got a chance to play this one before, and I am looking forward to trying now. Ver much so. Quick question first though: Is it possible to train animals for pets like a creature handler in SWG or, to a lesser degree, a hunter in WoW?
Thanks in advance T |

Customer service answered two of my tickets in two days (one each day). And the issue was my fault ( I had lost a promo code) so, from my personal and recent experience, this game's support staff and customer service is Excellant.

I was a huge everquest fan, so huge in fact that I bought my play time by the year. I built my current computer (which I just now am having updated) to double the original posted requirements of EQ2 years before it was actually released. And it could be the greatest game of all time, built and designed by the MMO gods themselves, but now I can never play it because it is a sony game. And I would always be too worried that sometime the designers would come along and waste the game that I had spent so much time in. I can no longer play games by SOE without feeling a constant sense of dread mixed with (ironically) lack of caring and commitment. And I liked playing it. T |

5 5 That is the number of SWG:NGE defenders I have seen on these forums. And Obraik seems to be the only one that is in anyway believable or honest. The other four have to be joking. It has to be a huge joke. Kind of like going to a classic rock forum and posting "honest" opinions about liking Genisis better after Peter Gabrial left. . . Seriously, they have to be joking. I cannot fathom. . . whatever. If the players of SWG:NGE cannot find a better (in every concieveable way) game I am actually saddened; I am almost willing to pay for them to play something else just so they can see by comparison the atrocity that is SWG:NGE. Seriously they have to be joking, and how possibly do they expect anyone with an ounce of intergrity or intelligence to take them seriously. Its embarassing for them, it must be. It would be like being a musician and admitting that you like(d) Milli Vanilli not only for their musical prowess but for their performance integrity. Its no longer about what the game used to be. . .but what it is. If it were brand new, and un-sullied by bad blood, and I bought it today and installed I would probably have it un-installed in a week. Maybe three days. The people who play it now are the same type of people that do not listen to music because everyone else listens to it regardless of the quality of music, but just becasue they do not want to seem like they "fit-in". They are the reverse curve people; just as bad, no, arguably worse than normal followers. No props. . . no props at all. T |

Self regulated responsibility is why we as consumers always have the power. The retail and corporate world has gone to great lengths to make the consumers forget this. Our power is in our commitment to demand for ourselves what we desire and expect in return for our money. In my humble opinion, for this example, anyone who still plays SWG:NGE and enjoyed the Pre-CU, and complained about the sweeping game features, or understood the willful and admitted deceit in which they were implemented is frankly a weak-willed pansy soulless pushover that takes that kind of crap in the R/L, who deserves no respect from the gaming industry. And it is these Sallies that will eventually let everything in their lives be comprimised to ruin, it just so happens that a minute aspect of their lives, On-line gaming matches up with mine, and as such affects me, albeit in a very (over-all) tiny way. But they are just games, hobbies. . . .which is why I haven't jumped off of a bridge, or let it ruin my life in anyway. But what is not a game is the way people in this situation let themselves get treated. I would not let anyone treat me that way in any circumstance even in my hobbies. So with that being said, the only way to get basic human and consumer respect from the developers and the gaming industry is to constantly vote with our money. For example, and concerning SOE, for years they made smaller changes to all of their games, but all changes that I could live with, and as such continued to play, or at least try their games. But, after what they did with the NGE I willed to never knowingly give them another bit of my money. Ever. I don't play EQ, I did, I don't play EQ2, I did, I do not play SWG, I did, I did not try PotBS, and I am not going to try The Agency. I don't even care what I'm missing, or if they're the best games ever, because they are just games, and I can find something else to do. But my earned money which is a tangible symbol of my sold time is not a game, and I will not treat it as such. I haven't even bought a PS3 or any other Sony products since then. Bottom line: if you do not like the way you are being treated then stop letting yourself be treated that way. Then you will not have to fear the future and the treatment of you in it. Especially involving unimportant stuff like gaming. So it goes. . . T |

Was looking foward to this game when I first read about it during its development. But then they chose some strange bed partners, and I made a commitment to never ever play a sullied game again. So in a completely selfish way, I am glad it is doing poorly, because at least I know am not missing out on much, I couldn't play it if it had become the best game ever, so good in fact that it shut all others down. In that event, I would have had to have stopped gaming all together.
So it goes. . . T |

I, for one, would stop playing. There is a reason that the people playing this game have chosen it over many others. Some like the lore, some like the classes, some like the low-magic of it. And it is not about following the lore religiously, but it is about following it at least a little, and although your ideas aren't bad (as proven by the fact that they can be found in nearly every other game) they are just too much of a stretch in this setting or for this game. I enjoy the game as is. I enjoy the PVE balance of the classes and the uniqueness of them. I enjoy the low-magic setting, not just because it is lore appropriate but because I have never enjoyed ULTRA-high fantasy, I enjoy the lore without being a purist. I hold no notion that the lore must be followed at the expense of fun and playability. I think Turbine has treaded this fine line quite well. So it goes. . . . T |

LotRO is no more a WoW clone than WoW was a clone of its predessors (EQ1). The community is involved, mature and excellant, much more so than I ever found in WoW. There is plenty to do, at least as much as there is in any Level based questing game. The lore of the IP is the major draw. If you like the books (or movies) you'll more than likely enjoy the game. It seems to me, and this of course is just an opinion, that LotRO in a Level Based questing MMO for the older gamers that fell in love with gaming because of their love of the IP. But admittadly the game is all about the leveling journey, and as such can seem like the same-old-same-old WoW-type grind with out (currently) the high end content. But WoW did not have that stuff either upon release. If you are not that type of player that enjoys the journey, as fast or as slow as you see fit, than you probably will not like the game. I myself level slowly on purpose so that I can feel as though I have become part of something larger, and in this case it happens to be an IP that I have enjoyed for decades. So it goes. . . . T |
