Anyway... back to the topic... (kinda)... we had 2 bad weeks here full of trolls posting the same thing over and over and over and over and... well we kinda got tired of the "omg cut 4 cityes and 4 classes" posts... and there were a LOT of them...

did i mention there were a lot of troll posts the last 2 weeks?

Hey, I did NOT know you had this, ok? I just read it now the first time and thought wow I want to talk about this. Is that so hard to believe without being accused, slandered and personally degraded?

Or being attacked as KOTOR-guy? Hello??

This forum has so devolved.

Second, I am not in beta, but as I understood, it seemed like city conquest was the culmination of the RVR battle. Since when is any concern of a poster a trolling, hello??

Did this forum degenerate so much that we must call each other fanbois and troller in EVERY single thread now?

I just think a lot of people are on auto pilot these days, and automatically respond with such names when they see a post that disagrees with their point of view. Hopefully I didn't come off as being rude like the others.

Not at all. Your post was entirely polite and reasonable. When you say you are in beta and dont see at as such a cut, thats fine. I just dont make forum reading a lifetime task, I scan the first 2 or 3 pages topics. But I guess just giving a friendly answer is out of the question for most others here. I am entirely honest: War isnt high on my list, but I like a lot of things I heard, and this was of some concern to me, because at least to me cutting away 66% of the existing capital cities does sound... severe.

Now I dislike WOW like anyone, but must we really be so blind in our WOW-hate that we blindly defend EVERYTHING in WAR now?

Am I only allowed to write my recent concern after hours of professional forum digging and 24/7 following what others said? doh

I mean, hey, I just wrote some concern, and I have an entire list of bashers and flamers on a simple, personal concern?? If THAT is the Warhammer community I know why they make no official forums! *shakes head*

I just read WAR has taken out 4 of the 6 capital cities out of the game, and I felt, wow, am I the only one who found this a mayor setback? I mean, I am not in beta, but in every video and podcast they always emphasized that the city siege and conquest was the final goal, the highlight of all the RVR combat, and how especially always two races are in opposition. Now how can they lead it to a climactic war, when FOUR of SIX cities are goners? I dunno, but that sounds like a major crippling of the game to me. :/

Not to speak of the four classes. I though they sounded cool. Now without Knights, who will be tank among order? Won't the missing classes rip a hole into the entire system??

Coming so close to the launch it doesnt feel like any strategic decision, but once more to launch another incomplete game, like Conan, like Vanguard like so many others with more and more features coming "some later time". And being focussed on RVR Warhammer already was - well let's say "thinner" in other non combat areas. (Crafting, Itemization asf.)

My my... why are these humans always so hasty...

Let me break a lance for Funcom and say, lets wait and see. I mean, if they have enough new content for an expansion not too expensive, its alright to *additionally* put "patch content" into the Xpack. Lets stay cool and wait for the details. I am always willing to criticize things, but ripping them apart before knowing any detail is just a bit ridiculous. I admit, they didnt deliver a lot of things they promised, so I too am very sceptical about the xpansion.

it's a trap!

*hand wave* There is no KOTOR MMO... this isnt the Online Game you are looking for. Move along!

Seriously, it does smell like it was an accident,  but whatever the facts are, they must  spit it out at some point anyway. SOE will know already, I dont think it is a secret to THEM. So again, what for? Rabid fanbase? I dont see the fanbase being less of a problem now than any later time, I dont see the fanbase handling will be ANY easier with any later announcement time.

Ok it was weekend, maybe they still ponder how to deal with this, what likely was NOT a planned announcement, but weekend is over now, so I expect *some* statement. This is really getting hilarious, its a frigging pixel game, not the Roswell secret or the Illuminati papers!

I think your post and another here hit on a key point..."why not admit KOTOR officially now"

The answer can only mean one thing logically...

The end of Star Wars Galaxies.

It doesnt seem likely that Lucas Arts would allow his IP to have two representatives in the MMO market. And that has nothing to do with the quality (or lack of) in SWG. You simply dont want competing games when you spend 75 million dollars to develop something.

Yes Bioware will bring in new gamers to KOTOR probably like Blizz did with WoW. However a large amount of players will certainly come from ex-disgruntled vets and current SWG players.

Bioware certainly wouldnt agree to invest into a large project knowing that SOE would be trying their hardest to keep their players at the same time.

And then there is the whole secrecy issue. Sorry but I dont buy into the theories that Bioware wants to keep it a secret so players cant give input. Clearly hype helps with initial box sales (see Age of Conan). There can only be one reason to keep this project secret and thats to protect Star Wars Galaxies.

There are a select few thousand remaining players over at Star Wars Galaxies that have deluded themselves into believing there is hope for their game. The announcement of KOTOR followed by the closure of SWG would quickly lead to the majority cancelling.

Bioware's MMO is still 2 yrs from launch most likely. SOE and LA can milk a lot of money during that time from the SWG players. I doubt they could keep it quiet right till launch as they'd want beta testers but still they'd want to wait as long as possible.

No question in my mind, the secrecy is obviously meant to protect SWG because its sunsetting soon.

I am not sure, this convinces me. *Maybe* you are right, but personally, if I would play SWG now, I would not leave the game now, simply because some day another Star Wars game would be on. Most SWG players will likely presume the coming of a KOTOR MMO anyway by now. I cant say how others function, but as I said, for me the existence of a KOTOR MMO in the future would not much inlfuence my decision in the presence. *shrug*

Maybe a KOTOR MMO announcement would even bring more ppl to SWG, since some would be so fixed to play a SW MMO, who knows.

I should if I want to play a nextgen Star Wars MMO anyway LOL

I see great and beautiful things for this new game
....BioWare and EA Teaming up to make an innovative MMO...
*Shiver*
I never liked Bioware's stuff actually, (sorry guys :0)
But I could definately see a brilliant MMO out of them

Lol nice pic too!

Well, we have to kill the time with fun meanwhile, it seems. ;)

I think the OP has a point. I played LOTRO about 6 months or so and left. I just was... bored. I mean, for me LOTRO feels like a museum. Its awesome to watch and walk through, but thats its. I never got this feeling of an open ended world with possibilities, but rather being the background-sidekick for the heroic book protagonists, Frodo and the rest. It's always "Frodo and his gang is in trouble there, go here and help by doing XYZ". I never felt like *I* was the main focus, which is just logical setting it in the same time as the books. I cant say 100% why, but somehow I felt bored after some time. I am sure the limitations, like classes and races played a great part. Compared to vast and diverse universes like D&D other high fantasy world, LOTRO felt more like low fantasy.

It's a good game, but due to the books it is WAY too limited for me to have a long time appeal.

I'm sure many of the diehard SWG fans are not happy about this since this could mean the end of their game. Granted, nothing offical has come the Austin office and this game is at least 3 or more years before it sees the light of day. I'm just interested in what the reactions are at the SOE forums.

I would very much like to hear a real reaction for EA and Bioware. This really is getting to the point of being childish, first spill it out and then be silent about anything and leave us in suspence. I dont know what they hope to accomplish by staying silent any longer now.

A Star Wars game without jedi is a Eunuch.

After the NGE, yes for a while many Jedi appeared. But so what? After a while it passed and the classes were VERY evenly in the groups I was in. Star Wars just mainly is a story about Jedi and Sith. (Not to forget the latter!) So making a SW MMO without Jedi sounds like missing the point to me. Not sure what an elitist forum like this says, but I am damn sure 99% of all customers OUTSIDE our enlightened forum cant imagine playing a SW MMO without! And I am damn sure WE here are a VERY VERY tiny, elitist minority among the MMO players. Most never really visit forums at all.

Heh, I suppose after the word of a KOTOR MMo was spread like this, THAT would be a PR catastrophe, making Chernobyl look like a small accident, compared to it, for EA. But loo, this EA CEO, when asked "are you talking about KOTOR Online", and he said yes, I can hardly believe he would confirm an "Online" game, other than a MMO. As I said, that would now be a catastrophe for EA and Bioware.

Bioware and EA for that mater have a new strategy.

Instead announcing the game , and promising, teasing, promising....for few years.

They announce the game when it is almost ready for release (around 6 months before)

When they finally officially announce Kotor MMO , it will be in almost completely playable state.

This is what i think is going to happen

Yeah it's what I thought too. With the many professional nay sayers in these places, who can blame them.

I'm with the sceptics on this one, if there was to be a Star Wars-themed MMO projected to be released sometime next year, surely there would be a big official announcment at E3 this past week, not some random off-hand comment from the EA Boss to some blog that no-one's heard of, it just doesn't make sense, no the Bioware MMO is still a secret, and whatever it is it's not Star Wars/KotOR-related, that's my five cents. You can all laugh at me later when I'm proven wrong and they do announce it :D

I know I know, we MMO gamers are pro whiners and bashers, and yes I am guilty of that myself from time to time. It's ok. Forums are there to "let it out", they are some kind of catharsis-place, where you can vomit out all the stuff that plagues you inside. But, in this case, I ask us all - lets make a difference here. Say it all with me: we can do it!

I see, right when the news of the KOTOR MMO was announced - and no single detail was out - already bash and whine threads started. Already! I mean, come on, we know NOTHING about it yet, and already you bitch and moan? I understand, making a SW MMO after the controversy SWG caused, and with the rabid SW fanbase is no small thing. What we all must understand are essentially two things:

(A) A Star Wars MMO is a MMO like any other MMO! It has things some like, and things some wont like and some things you would like but arent there. Period. Like ANY MMO, it wont be perfect and it wont appeal everyone. No MMO can do that. Accept it and make your inner peace with that now. (Yes NOW. Breath deeply and just let the demands go...)

(B) A Star Wars MMO is not a MMO like any other MMO. I mean, its STAR WARS. Alone for the places, the myth, the feeling, a KOTOR MMO will be a totally different experience. I truly believe it has this one, big chance to really, actually do the miracle and beat WOW. That alone would be enough reason to give it ALL support from this place we can give it, to dethrone WOW. All those who remember SWG will know how great it feels, just to enter Mos Eisley the first time, to see all the places of the stories and legends. To just BE there. There is no greater and more popular franchise thatnStar Wars I think, so its gonna be a hell of an experience!

What I want to ask you all is, give KOTOR Online a chance. I know, we all have wishes. Some want Jedi, others want  no Jedi, some would like a KOTOR 3 with single player story, some will like Entertainers back, whatever. But let us NOT talk this new born baby to death before it has learned to walk and speak on itself. For once, let us make a difference and just enjoy the most wondeful fact since the great old days of gaming, that WE ARE GOING TO BE IN THE STAR WARS WORLD - in a MMO! I mean, thats GREAT news, guys, and lets savour it just for once without bashing, whining, bitching and acidic comments. Its gonna be great, no matter the details. Lets just this one time be generous and give this benefit of doubt until the day it goes gold. Let us give it our support, and not talk it to death with flames and hate. There are plenty of MMOs you can spill hate over, and most of them deserve it.

Remove your shoes, because here my friends, you tread on sacred ground. As you dont yell in a church, leave all your anger out, when talking about Knights of the Old Republic Online. Thanks. ^^

Yeah I was thinking the same thing.

The possibly most anticipated MMO release is mentioned off hand to a portfolio.com blogger? I've listened to 5 podcasts reporting from E3 and none have mentioned this news at all. All other stories on this is simply  a link back to portfolio.com

If EA/Bioware was to break the news I would think they would do it during their presentation and not in an off handed comment to someone.

It may be true but the reporting seems a bit odd.

I am quite sure it was an "accident" - maybe a purposeful idiscretion, but something indeed not planned. Its quite weird to announce one of the possibly most awaited games ever in a single sentence on portfolio. I am tbh still a bit in doubt if he wasnt misquoted and they all think VERY hard at EA and Bioware to undo the damage, when its acutally a misunderstanding. But lets presume for the time being its all as it seems. This interpretations is making me feel better atm. ;)
