they're clearly not amateurs

Even though I'd hope so, it is not clear to me, especially given the lack of evidence of previous industry experience across the board. Can you substantiate this claim to remove all doubts and speculations to the contrary? Conversely, professionals don't make a MMO full time for 7 years either. It's unprecedented anyway.

The rest of your post seem to be attacks on people or games you do not agree with, wishful thinking, or wild claims (my doubts are derived from the fact I am intimately familiar with software development  strategies, especially the "release strategy", which I hear has been employed by every successful software product in the past, perhaps Aventurine should look into it), which are your right to express but will be dismissed as such.

well i'm a professional software developer with over 10 years experience developing commercial products, so yeah i feel comfortable saying i know what i'm talking about here. the DF devs may be guilty of OCD and sticking to the timelines they set for themselves, but i find it ludicrous for people to suggest it's never going to come out or is vapourware of somesuch. it's clear there's development there and there is actually quite a lot of info available about game features & mechanics.

In that case you need to find a new line of work because you obviously don't have a clue how this industry works or how marketing and hype attribute towards potential investors.

The only thing that's 'clear' is that they have made a lot of announcements about game features and mechanics none means anything unless they can provide actual PROOF of implementation.  To date they have provided no proof of any features or mechanics, so exactly what are you basing your fanboism on? faith?

Considering there's approx 12 weeks to go until launch, bit premature to be stopping anything :)

They have recently confirmed that they are bang on target for a fall release - November is not fall so therefore there is no reason to think November now is there?

First 2 weeks in Oct is my guess.

Well Turncoat or whatever the hell his name is, should stick to his lego toys and sweeties and leave game discussion to the big boys and girls.  He acted like a 10 year old and probably is, now send him to bed with no supper it's past his bedtime!

This is a well written generic MMO class guide article.  What's with all the moaners?.

The article applies to 90% of all MMOs that have ever existed, it even applies to EvE online ( if you actually played EvE to any level you would know that the exact same classes exist in EvE at their fundamental level, but are masked by different visuals and names, they still play the same role.)

I say good job, it provides insight for new players to the genre in an accessible manner.

The release date for Earthrise is Q1 2009 actually.  Just a release date but still...

Rubbish they have never said Q1 2009, the earliest projection was the very END of 2009 - 2010.

Could it be as simple as the only choice of games available in their native language until relatively recently was Lineage.  Seems the most logical reason.

I'm not buying the rubbish about social and community differences effecting whether they like grinding games or not, that's armchair psychology and nonsense.

People are far more similar than some of you seem to think, I have lived in several different countries through the years, and the one thing that always strikes me is how similar everyone is wherever you go, most of the differences nowadays is just fluff.

Wrong impression to give to people your just spouting propaganda.  At the heart of RVR is PVP thats why people are buying it - to say there is no PVP in WAR is both wrong and misleading.

WAR is FULL of PVP the fact that when you PVE and do quests your are also helping the cause i.e. RVR does not mean its essentially a PVP game.

One of the dumbest things I've ever read on this site=)  We already have a union.  Our wallets.  Don't like the games.  Don't buy them.  Don't play them.   If no one plays the games, they have to change them so that we do.    Blizzard actually asked questions, did lots of R&D and designed WOW according to US and what WE wanted.   Look at the results.  And by "US" I do not mean, elitist, hardcore, MMO gamers with attitude problems.  I meant normal people;)

Theres many other hobbies out there besides games you know=)

In a way I wish I didn't agree with the above, but actually it's entirely correct.

There is no need for a union and it would serve no purpose.  Sorry but it's true.  Sounds great and people will get all worked up about how good it sounds, but at the end of the day its irrelevant, because

-If a game is full of bugs DONT buy it.

-If a game company has terrible customer service CANCEL your subscription and tell your friends about how bad the game is and what it's faults are on forums and sites on the internet.

There is no need for a union because we are not working for the game companies THEY are providing a service to us.  A service which can be cancelled at anytime we wish.  The ONLY way to get through to companies that are performing badly is through their profits, and that means voting with your wallets and subscriptions.

However, I will say this: while I enjoyed the LoTR movies for what they were, I never really cared for Tolkein's writing.  His concepts were good, but I always felt his execution and writing style were dry and boring.  In other words, I'm not a Tolkein fan nor excited about the opportunity to play a MMO based upon his world.  For me, that is about the same in priority as playing on Norrath or Azeroth.

Truthfully if you do not appreciate the writing of Tolkien I really do no believe LOTRO should be the MMO you play.

Wrong.  I have no interest in Tolkien, but love LOTR as a MMORPG.  It's high quality and fun to play.

It's irrelevent that it's based on Tolkien, if it had to rely on fans of his writings then it would not be as popular as it is.

It appeals to all MMO fans not just Tolkien fans or it would of died long ago.

*Insert any example you wish*

Quantity (amount of users) Does Not = Quality

This applies to all walks of life, all products in the world and all people in the world.  That is why WoW isn't ranked number 1.

It's not the best game, only the most popular, why are some people having so much trouble understanding that difference?  Very confusing.

Mcdonalds is the most popular food outlet in the world, but I wouldn't rank it number one for quality, its really very simple.

I find it funny that people are trying to equate WoW to Mc Donalds, and then compare Mc Donalds with a fine "wine and dine" restaurant when they're not even the same thing! You want to compare apples to apples? then compare Mc Donalds to another fast food place like Wendy's (yes, PLACE, not restaurant) or compare two actual dine-in restaurants. These analogies are so far off it's not even funny, and yet they've been used over and over for no other reason other than "well, since Mc Donalds also sells in the millions, and WoW has subscription in the millions, they must be the same, so lets do a really lame comparison between a fast food place and a fine sit-in french/italian/greek/etc. cuisine restaurant" Come on people! at least make the comparisons fair! Is that too much to ask? Nevermind, I forgot I'm dealing with a bunch of so called "elitist MMO snobs" of course you're not going to be fair.

It seems that even that small paragraph was too much for you to understand, so I will make it shorter and simpler (if that's possible)

Quantity does NOT = Quality  - that's as easy as I can make it without drawing pictures.

Right now I'm quite content with Age of Conan.  Still a diamond in the rough, but it's getting better and better and I rarely ever have any kind of performance problem at all.  I'm loving my characters and the quests.

The MMORPG's of the future that I'm interested in weren't listed, so I'll put it up here.  The following MMORPG's have a chance at taking my business away from FunCom in the future:

#1 BioWare's [worst kept] Secret MMORPG

#2 EARTHRISE

#3 World of Darkness by CCP.

IF I had to choose one from the above list... I guess I'd give Darkfall a try if it were magically out and lived up to its many promises.

The world of darkness is a card role playing game isnt it? why is that listed? good news if its going to be an MMO though if it is please post a link :)
