MMORPG.com doesn't want to alienate the Darkfall developers before making a few bucks on some advertising revenue. Then if it fails to release and people have been suckered into losing money on preorders, MMORPG.com will remove their listing and claim ignorance just like MMORPG.com did with "Mourning' and "The Chronicle".

No follow up in depth articles were ever pursued by MMORPG.com to uncover or explain the shady going ons with those two vaporwares and no real scrutiny was applied to making sure they were legit before gleefully running their ads on this site.

Of course SOE was to blame.

Realistic weight capacity. You can only carry a certain amount of stuff based on your strength attribute. Once you reach a certain limit, your movement and combat speeds slow down until you are completely forzen and helpless if overburdoned by weight.

I hate MMOGs that let you carry everything and anything. It's so unrealistic.

Bind on Pickup came about from EQ, with level 1 characters running around using level 50 weapons.

It is a solid system. It makes you go spend time getting item X.... instead of buying it.

The way to solve twinking, which is what you describe, is by assigning level/skill limits to every item, not by making them no trade or bind on pickup.

I agree that no trade items are how developers force linear playstyles like raiding and I am sick of it.

I think AoC is the worst in this regards.  It's the first game that actually has an X exactly where you need to go.  Some games have a radius outlined which is bad enough, but the X is a killer in regards to having to actually read the quest to complete it.  Even WoW does not show you exactly where you need to go for quests even though the quest summary tells you that.  Overall I try to read the quests so that I can get into the game, but many times I find myself skipping due to not having the patience at certain times.  It would be better if the quests just required you to read them so it would feel like it was an extra chore you were doing, but actually something you need to do.

Nope it is not. Legend of Zu will automatically run you to the spot too.

And you can easily use a WOW addon to mark where the relevant mob is.

BTW, i don't think it is the worse, i think it is a nice feature. If i just want to hack-n-slash, i don't want to waste time running everywhere searching for the right mob.

If you like it thats OK with me, but for people who like to explore and have meaningful quests it kills all of that aspect of the game.  If you just want to hack and slash perhaps and MMO|RPG| is not for you.  Maybe you are looking for Diablo 2.

I keep seeing people say omg the big red x is the worst thing ever...if so, turn it off?

People are turning it off,,, they are canceling their subscriptions.

There is no point in playing a cooperative competitive MMOG if I am in hard mode while others are in easy mode. The rules and mechanics need to apply to all players equally.

I'd rather look forward to potential vaporware like Darkfall than play any of the garbage currently available or scheduled to release like Warhammer.

Here is an example of a real quest in classic EQ, back before there were minimaps and arrows pointing the way, only a compass to guide you, back before there were stupid unrealistic floating icons above questgivers heads, back when NPC faction mattered to unlock or complete quests, back when exploration and effort was an expected and enjoyable part of playing and succeeding in MMOGs.

This is the quest to obtain the Langseax or the Langseax of the Wolves. You need a very good faction to complete this quest (amiable at least).

Complete Version: Go to Renth McLanis in the tavern across from Mac's Kilts. Ask him "What dangerous matter?". He tells you of a crime. Agree to hunt the murderer. Renth then sends you to see Dok in Dok's Cigars. Find out all you can about the crime. He tells you to go see the leader of Clan McMannus. This is the fishing village located in West Karanas. Speak to the leader. Then speak to Ulrich McMannus and he tells you Frostbite can track prey if he has a piece of sweaty clothing. Return to Dok and ask him "Where is the sweaty shirt?". He then tells you he sold it to Tundra Jack. Find Tundra Jack on the tundra of Everfrost. He will tell you that Iceberg is using it for a collar and that you can distract Iceberg with his favorite meal, Lion Delight. Go back to Halas and speak to Teria O' Danos. Do the lion meat quest (you get coin and faction as well as the Lion Delight). Once you have Lion Delight, be sure to bury it lower in your container then your normal food to prevent it being eaten by you. Take the Lion Delight to Iceberg and receive the shirt (NO DROP, LORE ITEM) and faction adjustment. Now run to the village and give the shirt to Frostbite. (NOTE: Frostbite will wait for the murderer to spawn before he takes off. He walks pretty fast so I wouls strongly suggest that you have Spirit of Wolf on you. It also helps to have a party member along that can track because I lost sight of Frostbite many times and have had to start over. Also, Frostbite likes to fight things along the way. Help him out. Be very careful not to target Frostbite by accident!) Frostbite will lead you right to the criminal. The murderer will be either Paglan or Basil. Paglan is tougher to kill and probably in his low to mid 20's, Basil is around level 20. Kill whomever the dog leads you to, hope he drops a Barbarian head and then return to Halas with the head. Give the head to Renth for faction, coin, and of course, the Langseax (if you have Basil's head) or the Langseax of the Wolves (if it is Paglan's head). I am not sure what triggers which criminal you get or even if you can just kill both and get both heads, but it seems that you wil normally get Basil.

Here is a short version: Run to village, and receive the lion meat. Run to Halas, turn in meat to Teria and get Lion Delight, faction, exp. and coin. Run to Iceberg, give Lion Delight, receive shirt, faction, exp. Run to Frosbite, give shirt, gain exp. Kill the criminal. Return head for faction, coin, exp and Langseax. One thing to keep in mind is that your faction drops a good deal with the thieves guild with this quest, and the banker in Halas is a thief, making it possible that doint this quest can cause you to get kos if you try to use the bank. Also, you need a high faction with the Wolves of the North to finish the quest.

The faction changes are as follows: When you complete the lion meat quest: Shaman of Justice (+1), Wolves of the North (+1) Merchants of Halas (+1), Rogues of the White Rose (-1); When you trick Iceberg and get the Sweaty Shirt: Shaman of Justice (+1), Wolves of the North (+1), Merchants of Halas (+1), Steel Warriors (+1), Rogues of the White Rose (-1); When you kill Paglan or Basil: Rogues of the White Rose (-1); When you turn in Paglan's or Basil's head for your reward: Shaman of Justice (-1), Wolves of the North (+1), Merchants of Halas (-1), Rogues of the White Rose (+1); Faction adjustments overall: Shaman of Justice (+1), Wolves of the North (+3), Merchants of Halas (+1), Steel Warriors (+1), Rogues of the White Rose (-2).

Be warned that the Halas Banker is part of the Rogues of the White Rose, so you may lose banking privileges if you lose too much of that faction.

Need all dialogues, current faction hits, /loc of quest mobs, additional quest items, quest mobs, details to get both Langseax and Langseax of the Wolves.

I refuse to pay good money for an incomplete game. It's time for gamers to send a message to developers that we won't take this kind of crap anymore. We should not pay to beta test a product.

Once Brad Mcquaid left SOE and Smedley took creative control it was all downhill.

Horizons had the best on a fresh server where you got to rebuild the world and all the structures. Harvesting in Horizons was great also. It had real graphics of ore, trees, flux etc that you harvested using different tools and the materials would grow or be found in geographically correct areas and would take time to replenish if they were overharvested. They didn't just respawn stupidly over and over again in the same predetermined spot.

Classic EQ had some great crafting especially tailoring and tinkering which were extremely difficult to master.

A good crafting system is one that takes at least 6 months of non stop grinding to master. If it's too easy to max your crafting skill, then everyone will be a master craftsman like in WoW and there is no point in pursuing it then just to be one of the many.

Yeah Brad Mcquaid and John Smedley have opposite views on MMOGs.

When Brad created EQ1 and was in charge of it's direction, the game focused on socializing, keeping all avenues open for all playertypes,  a seamless world and anti RMT stance. Smedley wants instancing, locked encounters, linear design, forced raiding for endgame, and now microtransactions and RMT as well.

I don't see any problem with giving women a little extra help to break into the gaming industry. I myself like to give women in my office a little something extra to help them with their careers. The important thing for me to know though is, does she swallow?
