Does seeing a bunch of chickens add to immersion? This is the best mechanic they could come up with for preventing low level ganking? Paul Barnett, the creative genius strikes again. |

Voice masks should be in from the start, not part of a future update. Once I know that badass fighter is a squeeky pimply faced kid, I won't forget once the voice masks are introduced. Too late for immersion sake. Is the voice chat going to totally replace keyboard chat though? I mean when I am talking to strangers, not known friends or people I am grouped with, will voice chat be set up for common close vicinity conversations? The real problem I see with voice chat is that it's geared for isolating groups of players in private chatrooms, and eliminating any public speaking, which i like to see in a game world. You can learn a lot by overhearing public conversations about what's happening in the game world and sometimes jump into the conversation if you have some useful information to add. It can be a great way to meet other players. But if everyone is speaking only within their private chatrooms, the world will grow very quiet and lonely.

Any old schoolers like me or new players tired of the linear quest driven games being released that want a combat experience oriented MMOG with a complex crafting system? |

I hate linear quest driven games, give me more grinding. Combat experience is where it's at. Combat experience games lead to more grouping, longer grouping, more socialization. That's what MMOGs are supposed to be about. |

Best thing for Ryzom is a fresh start. They need to run an advertisement blitz of a new launch and attract a lot of old school players who are disgruntled with all the new release crap that's out there. |

Everytime I see Paul Barnett speak, I want to punch him in the face, he is so obnoxious. Calling Paul Barnett a creative director is like saying spaghetti is a delicacy. Paul Barnett doesn't have a creative bone in his body. Warhammer is WoW with a little window dressing. |

I don't think you understand what instancing is, it's never optional. If I am in a geographic area of the game world known as, let's call it "Forest of doom", then I want the ability and option to see, meet , interact with, every other player who happens to be in that same part of the game world at that moment. If the other players have the option to choose to play in their private version of that area, then I no longer have a choice not to choose to play in an instanced game world. Instancing defeats the point of playing a MMOG. |

I believe EVE is still non instanced, it was when I played it. When you fly thru a gate you load a zone aka a star system, but everyone shares the same geographic area. There are not multiple copies of the same geographic area for separate groups of players. Anytime a specific geographic area exists more than once it is an instance. Old school MMOGs like classic EQ and Horizons didn't employ instancing and I want to play a real MMOG like that again.

I don't have a problem with loading zones, single copies of a geographic area shared by all players. My rant is about instancing, I even defined it with examples. Geesh. |

I sure hope so, this trend of instancing doesn't help build communities and enable random encounters with other players. Also the trend of quest experience based games does not foster the type of cooperation that combat experience games created. |

LoTRO was successful? I beta tested it and thought it sucked. Too much handholding, being led around the place with a quest experience system where you followed an obvious path marked by questgivers with icons above their heads and a minimap with an arrow pointing the way. I felt so stupid playing LoTRO. Where is the challenge? Where is the exploration? Where is the decisionmaking process? Follow the yellow brick road......if only gamers were treated as if they had brains |

I have never seen a company announce such massive changes to a game so soon after release. Funcom developers must be shaking in their boots with fear of most subscribers bailing. Where there is smoke, there is fire. |

So I am thinking let me check out Aion, heard it might be good. So I read the offical ultimate Faq thread in this forum, and there it is in black and white. RAIDING AND INSTANCED DUNGEONS. Enough of this crap already, raiding sucks and real gamers want a seamless non instanced game world. |
