Well, they're not working on anything fantasy and I hope it stays that way. There's too many fantasy mmos out.

I'm glad they finally decided to offer a trial. I was always curious of this game. I played the trial island and now I'm hooked, subscribed and enjoying the game. It's just so vast and beautiful. I love the crafting, SOE games just have superior crafting to all other MMOs.

I recommend this game to anyone that likes to PvE. There is only 1 FFA PvP server of 4 servers and if you're not from the US, playing on the FFA server is suicide since the ping can get upto 400ms (very bad). Hope that more players join so that eventually we may see a EU PvP server

This topic and a lot of others are just starting to piss me off... I really don't know what people are trying to proove. That they don't have anything better to do than to write a hell of a lot of comments and think about how eve sucks. Get a life, play your own games and stop shitting on this game.

If you feel that you can't catch up with the vets - don't play this game and stop whining
If you think that the PvP sucks - don't play this game and stop whining
If you have something against people that see a lot of good things about the game - stop trying to show them they're wrong and keep your thoughts to yourself, cause this isn't getting anywhere!

And go back to WoW  and write about how good the game is there. Don't compare WoW with EVE, just don't. Another thought of mine is, that this game just isn't for people that don't have "anything up their sleeves". It is a harsh environment, but I rather loose tons of ships and have some fun PvP and actually have a goal in a game even if it takes me 3 years to train to be really good at things than to mindlessly farm or be AFK in Battlegrounds in WoW for 3 years.

You won't see me in this topic anymore.

Have a good day.

and yet here you are pointing fingers while you defend EVE.. sooooo amusing to see people asking others to get a life when they obviously don't have one themselves... if it bothers you so much why on earth do you bother to read in the 1st place?

EVE is flawed, I like the fact that a new player can take on a old character however not the fact that a frigate or 2 can take out a BS just stupid... only game I know of who has small guns give lots of damage to big ships and big guns hardly do any damage to small ship... just tell me the logic of that because it really puzzles me.

I have a good example for you. Lets say you have a small agile, fast guy and a big, slow, cumbresome guy. The small guy if and when he hits doesn't really do a lot of damage to the big guy. The big guy has a very strong punch. But it's hard for the big guy to actually hit the small guy because of the difference in speed. While the small guy can take the big guy down, he will need a lot of effort and if he makes a slight mistake will get knocked out by only one punch. Logic enough for you? It is for me. (Bigger isn't always better) and (Everything has it's advantages and disadvantages) I think CCP has grasped that quite well.

"EVE is flawed" - I agree, every game is though I don't think that what you have wrote as unlogic is the disadvantage but actually an advantage (a small ship taking down a bigger one).

I like to read not only about this game but other games. I tend to make as short replys as I can. And I take everything (hopefully) in consideration when reading about what someone has to say about something (it is how people gain and change opinions, agree and disagree with certain things...). And I think that when a post gets stretched to more than 10 pages, people usually just cicle things around and the same bubblegum gets chewed over and over again without an end, this is when I think people should get a life. So I disagree with you about me not having a life. You can maintain a life even if playing games or doing other things.

I defend EvE? No, I don't. I've just wrote why I prefer EvE online over WoW.
And have just expressed that I think that this topic is bullshit, because people don't really stick to what the OP has wrote and tend to just argue which game is better and why. (That's why I used WoW as an example, because someone else mentioned it)

Oh and another example of small things taking bigger things down. Have you ever seen the power that a swarm of ants can do to a much bigger bug? Yes, they can take down a lot of bigger things.

And you will never see a frig taking down a good fitted BS alone, ever. The small frig can't do enough DPS to harm the BS. If something like this happens means that the BS is badly fitted (very badly).

Oh and "only game I know of who has small guns give lots of damage to big ships and big guns hardly do any damage to small ship" - small guns don't do lots of damage to big ships, they just hit. Big guns do a lot of damage to small ships (can insta-kill them) if they hit. If you don't understand what I mean refer to the "big kid small kid" example above. You obviously don't know enough about EvE to make a comment as you have.

Have a good day.

I have to disagree. Why? First of all you don't go solo PvPing in this game, even if you do, you can get pwned by newbie characters even if you have over 2 year of playtime, cause skills aren't the most important thing in EVE and PvP.

When you see a fleet of frigates taking down a battleship, you'll know what I'm talking about.

damian7, judging by the number of your posts, I have to say that you don't do much else then talk about pretty much pointless stuff on mmorpg.com

I do agree with you to some extent, but try making a bugless game (bigger one - not tetris). If you feel that it's not worth giving money to play MMOs (agree with you here as well, for the most MMOs) then just don't. Do something else, there are so many more interesting things to do in life than to play MMOs...

Enjoy.

After only four days of trial, I did subscribe.  One of the reasons why I like the game is it's laid-back way of doing things.  I can see how those who need constant entertainment would be easily bored and move on...and for me that's good news!  It's a strategy game more than a constant 'tactical' button-mash.  I see this having a long-term appeal for me because of that and the roleplay corporation I'd joined.  If I want button-mashing, I'll hit up a battleground on World of Warcraft and when I need a break, to Eve I'll go.  I also like the game economics.  It's been an appeal to me for both games I've mentioned.

Whoa, didn't know that there are still people left with reason. Yes, the description that you just wrote is correct. It is not intense (you don't press a same button 5 times in a second), though you will see that it has it's own intensity. When you're in PvP, your heart constantly races. When you loose something, you loose it for good. And that's what I like about the game. It doesn't have a babysitting mechanics. You can die everywhere in space. And the game follows the principle more risk more gain, that's a plus as well.

About the game being boring. Every game has it's boring parts, hell... the whole genre of MMOs is boring. They all follow the same principle and vary mostly by graphics and the setting, lore that the game is being played in.

Be good and enjoy!

I've met 2 girls in my first corp, a girl from my country, one from eve-uni and now 4 in the corp I'm currently in. This makes it 8, which I think is quite a number :P

My first corp has 3 german girls. My second corp has 4 girls.
And when I was playing on my first account (before I lost it) I actually knew a slovenian girl (my country).

So I don't know, maybe it's just my luck, but I've stumbled upon quite a few :)

Thinking about it, I think you're quite right. I wonder why such an idea never crossed my mind

I currently really don't have time to play EvE. And what I really love about it, is that I can still train my skills
That is as many of you have already said a very good part of the game.
Quit?- pffft, hell no, I really like the game.

I've never tried the game. How expensive it is it to build a new ship? Does it feel like a real risk losing one? And do you think I could ''get to know'' the game in the 14-day trial?

Well most people get a feel for the steep lurning curve the game has in the 14-day trial. When you hop into EvE online you really get overwhelmed, to play the game successfuly you MUST do the ingame tutorial. After the tutorial is done most of the people feel lost, cause there really isn't anything to direct you from there. You get into the rookie channel and people can be very helpful there.

In the beginning you do not make a lot of money, so buying even the best frigate can take you some time + you need to train your skills to be able to fly one. Once you successfuly do lvl 1 missions and get a feel for it and check some guides (there are a lot of them), you can probably train for cruisers so that you can do lvl 2 missions (more money).

If you don't like combat, you can try mining. But I'll tell you right now solo mining is one boring thing to do, you can get lots of money from it though but not at the beginning

A common mistake that people make is that they think bigger is better, which is not entirely true in EvE, why? Because the bigger the ship is, the slower the turrets on the ships are and can't track faster flying small ships. Another common mistake is that people train to fly lets say a battle ship, they save the money to buy it, but they don't have enough skills to effectively fly it, what usually happens is that these people loose their battleship (which costs a nice amount of money the first time you buy it) and quit the game

You start with 5k ISK and battleships range from 60mil - 140mil (the basic ones) just so that you have a feeling of how much it costs. And my estimate would be that you need to train your skills for about 4 months before you are effective in a battleship.

Once you effectively fly a battleship, you make enough money to easily replace any smaller ships such as battlecruisers, cruisers...

Hope this sheds some light.

Yeah, the PvE aspects of the game are quite limited and that's how CCP actually wants it to be and I agree with them.

EvE online is a game that really requires patience. People that aren't dum usually plan out things in the beginning of the game. Since it's a skill-based game, you don't need to grind anything to get your skills up, your skills are trained time based even when you are offline (has its disadvantages and advantages). The speed of training is determined by 5 ability points.

In EvE the little word "solo" does not exist, to be able to effectively do "greater" stuff requires you to be in a larger, more experienced corp.

The thing I love about EvE are the logistics in this game and I'm talking about fleet combat, corp to corp relationships (remember if your corp has a goal, doesn't mean that there isn't a bunch of people that can ruin it for you), more risk more potential gain. If you loose a ship in this game, you have lost it and to me, knowing that I can loose a ship in PvP or however is the most exciting thing. It means that you have to plan things out, know your enemy, know your ability and how effectively can you fight your enemy...

So yeah, it's all about patience
To me, this game is the best MMO because you are not told what to do or where to go, you make your own history. It is a unique MMO and you have to try it out yourself to see what I'm talking about.

That's right kids, we do live in an age of capitalism.

Guess the game doesn't work for all of the people (Trinity update), has maybe any of you tried the support or the forums... filed a petition or anything? I got a feeling that a lot of people just whine about a lot of things besides the fact that the game is not working for them and they do nothing about it. I'm sure that not all though. It is clearly CCPs fault, that is if you have hardware that they have listed as supported, cause if you don't you can't really do much.

I've played both Lineage II and WoW. I really prefer Lineage II over WoW, why, because Lineage II is more straightforward (here are the mobs... kill them to lvl up) while in WoW grind is as many have already said hidden in quests.

I even prefer the PvP in Lineage II, sieges are just uber.

I just hope that noone shows up saying that Lineage II is still more mindless than WoW... cause they are both mindless games but I prefer not to complicate, therefore I like Lineage II more.

Apart from this topic I think the best MMO is EVE online.

If you do want to play an asian grindfest game play Lineage II or RF online (depends on what you like more, fantasy of sci-fi).

I'm kinda shocked that only one guy mentioned the Abaddon, it's the most beautiful ship when it comes to non-capital ones. Basically I love Minmatar and Amarr ships and I hate Caldari and I have a neutral feeling towards Gallente (But I do love the Megathron) :)

Well, how good RFO is depends a lot on which guild you're in or which people you play with.
If you have a pack of good friends to play with than it's great. If you have a good helpful funny guild it's great as well. But it's kinda hard to have fun if you're a lone wolf.

If you want to have a lone wolf play style you gotta have lots of luck with drops.
