Man this post sure is a long one so I thought I'd get in on all the fun. Didn't read every post but I read a lot of them and there sure is a lot of flaming going on which is one of my favorite past times when it comes to forums. Any how I think the reason people don't like WoW on this particular forum is that most people that traverse MMORPG.com have played multiple MMOs when most people that play WoW have only played WoW and haven't tried anything else so they don't know that there are games out there that they are missing out on. I do realize that many WoW players have tried other MMOs but if you ask them which one they tried first I would be willing to bet that for 85% of them WoW was their first MMO. On top of all this the majority of my friends that I've met across many different MMO worlds highly dislike WoW and all of the wannabe WoW games that have been slewing out since it's success. (yes that's right I said success you can't take it's amount of subscribers away from it) so this has left a bad taste in their mouths because the majority of the devs seem to just want to get their piece of the WoW pie instead of trying to market to "Old school" MMO players who have been stuck playing the same games like EQ, L2, DAoC, FFXI, shadowbane, AO and UO for the last like 6-10 years and want something new that isn't another WoW wannabe. So to do what they can to achieve this they go on forum sites like mmorpg.com to voice their opinions so hopefully the devs will get it into their heads that there is a market share out there that is loyal to the genre but doesn't want another crappy WoW knockoff and wants something with new and exciting ways of playing the game with challenge, content, story, and great communities. (all of which WoW seems to lack for some reason)

Well for me it just depends on the MMO. Some games you have a vast majority of the community that fits that profile while other games seem to have very few that fit the bill. "Those people" tend to play newer style MMOs (i.e. WoW clones) as far as I've noticed so I stay away from them and stick with the old style MMOs (i.e. EQ clones). |

Man you sure got me stumped on this one. I can't name an MMO that doesn't fit at least one or all the categories of grind you specified in the OP. Well that's awesome I guess if they provide a fun grind and other crap to do on the side I can keep on enjoying MMOs like I have been for years. Oh but wait I've never been one to complain about grind in the first place. If an MMO didn't have some kind of grind we'd all start out and max lvl with the best weapons and armor. And then you couldn't feel that satisfaction of being better then everyone else because you spent more time playing a game then they did. |

Wow this is also one of the huge reasons why I don't raid anymore. Don't get me wrong I used to live the dream and get all the cool armor and stuff and I felt really good about myself. Now I don't raid because it takes too much time and if I have something come up in RL i don't want to have to make up an excuse to my RL friend about why i can't make and I'm sick of getting flack from my in game friends for not showing up for stuff when I'd rather go do something with my RL friends. |

Well i don't know about you but it doesn't feel like a real MMO if i can't just get a group of friends and kill the same respawning mobs all day long to get XP. It is nice to mix it up every once and a while and go kill a bunch of mob A and collect X amount of B that drops and bring it back to some NPC that needs it to make something or they've had a pescy infestation and they want proof that you killed the crap you say you killed. I can never get enough of that stuff it's so freaking awesome. |

When i first saw this game my initial reaction was that it was a new and improved L2. There are however many differences that you can already see. L2 was a true free for all PvP game with Aion you're going to have factions similiar to WoW. I'm hoping the storyline can somewhat compare to FFXI's though because if SE ever does something right all the time it's great story. Still coming out and comparing Aion to all these games kind of discredits it if you ask. What i'm hoping for is that in a few years people are comparing the newer games coming out Aion because it truly raises the bar for MMOs. We will see though hopefully very early in 2009. |

Well for me it's way too early to be coming up with strategies. The game hasn't even been released yet and I haven't had the chance to play in beta. Every game seems to have little things about it that make PvP completely different then other games. Normally in PvP games I like to play a ranged class like I did in L2 but for some reason I'm thinking about playing a support class in this one. That can be a little difficult in duels but you never know Aion might end up being a very well balanced game when it comes to duels or it could be the complete opposite and have its overpowered classes. Until then I won't be thinking up any strategies myself. |

I have had similiar problems with my 9800 series card and i also run vista. FFXI isn't able to run on vista without downloading a patch first. It still does has problems with the newer cards but i normally end up using my old pc for ffxi instead for some reason. Saves space on my new pc and it still runs great on that one. Wish there was something else that could be done but I don't know how to fix this and I'm sick of trying. |

I wouldn't say that it's a must have at this time for you if your only lvl 25. There is still so much you can do with just the other expansions. I would say though that if you want to lvl some of the new jobs from it go ahead and get it because they are pretty awesome. Dancer is seemingly one of the most unique subjobs out there now many people are finding it helpful for just about any job in certain sitiuations. Scholar is also just freaking awesome if you ask me. They can easily fill the role of a whm or blm in your party with some cool additional abilities that the others don't have. Yes there are things they have that are missing but usually they aren't a big issue. The system with the timers for there abilities and how MP is used and magic effectiveness not like anything else. So again I wouldn't say its a must but it definetly couldn't hurt and who knows maybe you'll want it just for the new jobs or campaign. |

Well if you were hoping to do more of the mission content i would say try and find an ls and get them involved. If you're rank 6 then you can start Zilart missions first couple are just cutscenes. The one that's a pain is probably ZM5 the one where you have to run around all over the place to kill headstones, once you get past that you can get sky access in one night with just 3 people easy. I'd say while you're not doing missions try out some of the new stuff like campaign battles, and ops. They can be a good way to pass the time while still accomplishing something. Other then that you might try to lvl your subs you seemed to not like that idea but it's going to help you in the long run with any content you decide to do. Drk/war isn't always the best choice these days, many prefer drk/thf, drk/nin or some other combinations. Idk im not a drk lol. With the new lvl sync program finding and keeping a pt isn't as difficult anymore so the long waiting shouldn't be happening. |

I sort of agree but for me it depends on the game. In a high fantasy game like Aion i think having numbers in your name should not be aloud. Games like Anarchy online, RF online, and planetside though I think numbers being in the name should be aloud with no problem because they aren't the high fantasy games they are the sci-fi style where numbers in a name might not be to abnormal. |

No it shouldn't be any harder with a controller then on a PC. As a matter of fact many people on pc would recommend that you buy a usb controller for ffxi since the HUD is made for a controller and not exactly pc friendly if you're used to other MMOs. |

Well I myself never played EQ1. There a lot of members of my linkshell that did though and according to them ffxi is the only "Real" MMO left on the market if you go by EQ standards. Which if you guys can remember before WoW came out was THE standard for MMOs. I think the above poster was a bit overzealous with his statements about the grouping system. It really not that bad at all to get parties and now with the new lvl Sync system it's going to be even easier. If you are looking for a great grouping team oriented MMO with a great community I think your research pointed you in the right direction. If you loved EQ1 i'm sure you will enjoy ffxi very few people i know that have played EQ1 don't like ffxi. So id give it a try. |

Even my third which was rng wasn't as bad as I thought it was gonna be when it was all said and done. I am kind of a gear whorder though i never really threw anything away. I know a lot of people throw stuff away and it makes it easier to get that first job to 75 but im not one of them. Sad thing is now i have a bunch of gear i paid tons for that i dont really use and it would just hurt to sell it for 15% of what i paid for it. |

This has got to be one of coolest and craziest things SE has ever done. I like the way they are starting to think about how to fix complaints of the players. Now nobody will have a problem helping a fellow ls member catch up to them or worry about asking "Hey anyone got a job lvl 40 ish they want to lvl?" now they can just ask hey anyone want to lvl sync with my lvl 40 whatever. |

Lol i kinda do and i kinda don't. I played L2 for a long while got to lvl 72 but hey as you know that took me a really long time to do. While i did enjoy the grinding in L2 and the fact that you really had to watch your back at all times or well you would get killed. I don't really have the time that i did back then because im not in school anymore and i have a job and friends to think of. Still love MMOs though that's never gonna change. |

I actually got my third 75 done in about 6 weeks while still doing some other stuff at the time. The difference you ask? I had the gil, i had the knowledge, i had a lvl 75 and many 75 friends to help me get threw AF. On top of that the i didnt have to mess with the lvl cap quests. Anyone that's played ffxi since NA release know that unless you had all the time in the world that first 75 can take a really long time. I even know people that have just made 75 after playing for over 3 years. Could they have done this faster? Oh yeah but did they? No they sure didnt. |

Awesome welcome back to Vana'Diel. I hope you enjoy your stay this time and enjoy the awesomeness of blumage. I would say though that as far and the norm goes blu usually doesnt sub whm and whm pretty much never subs blu as far as i know. Bluemage is more of a damage dealer in pts with its great spells and decent mellee. Most blu you'll see around are /nin in pts. The only thing i really have against blu is when it comes to endgame, bluemage don't really hold up in the damage department like other DD jobs do. They are normally just stun spammers but man do they do some great and amazing things against those birds in the thickets. |
