Well don't join caitsith unless you speak japanese and plan to play during their primetime. NA primetime is about 2-3k and normally is around1.5-2k the rest of the time. During japanese primetime its always like 3.5k but when i log on then none of my friends or ls members are on and nobody wants to party with english speaking a$$ |

Wow there is a lot of long posts for this topic but many of the things talked about here are things i have thought or even talked to about with LS members. For me its that a lot of endgame content is just not worth my time. First off my main is pld and that's really what I want gear for. If i look at different endgame content the only thing i want to do is dynamis, limbus, and salvage (if im thinking about gear and not fun i love Nyzul isle just for the fun). The problem is the only LS i can get into does sky and salvage all the time and rarely does limbus. Salvage is cool but there is so many people in my ls with more points then me that i rarely get any of the pieces and I have not got 1 full set to make my armor yet and ive been at it for 5 months now doing it weekly. The other problem is pld really gets nothing good from sky except crimson cuises cool i can run fast now and kite better but i don't really kite too often when tanking except in sky. Limbus we hardly do and the gear I really want is only dropped from proto-omega and if you know its not like you can just got kill him all the time especially when we only do it when people feel like doing it after sky or salvage. The other thing is they don't like that i am in a dynamis ls because one a week i can't do anything with them so i get crap for that. Even though most of the people have full relic in my ls some even have relic weapons. I tried joining other linkshells but most of them do crap I don't want to do like camping fafnir and niddhog but who really has time for that unless you live at home with your parents or only work part time. Campaign..... Yeah campaign was cool at first it helped me merit with pld when it isnt really a job wanted for merit parties with the easy mobs in ToAU. Now its just annoying because its pretty much besieged that happens more often because none of the nations want to go out and get control of outlands and just keep control of the cities because you can't lose them to the beastmen. This sucks because now those areas are so laggy its rediculous and like someone else mentioned you got that brd crap going on all the time. Maybe SE will make so only having brd as your main will work or something to fix this. I think i might start my own LS and just do Limbus, assualt, and salvage. Then encourage people to join my Dynamis ls or just recruit people from it. But then some of them will look at what we're doing and say hey im not getting anything out of this because nothing good drops from this for my main and want to start their own linkshell doing nothing but camping fafnir and doing sky ROFLMAO
Hope you enjoyed my rant. |

I guess i'm just a little old school when it comes to my MMOs. The games i've played have forced grouping in one way or another. I started out on DAoC which you could solo but grouping up made things much more efficient then doing them on your own. Same with RvR you want to have a group of people with you when you did that. Then I played FFXI this game you cannot get around grouping at all. To gain lvls you need to group to get the best kind of gear you need to group and to get most missions and quests done you need to group. It's a group based game teamwork was the core of everything done in that game. Then i played Lineage2 you could solo in that game early on but then later it got less and less efficient. When you were higher in lvl you had to watch your back when doing anything since that game is TRUE open PvP so you didn't want to be by yourself or you were done for. I think what newer games are missing is this grouping factor but I guess that's what the masses want these days. They want things to come to easily and only group when it's convenient for them. If that's the case they shouldn't be called called Mass Multiplayer Role Playing Games they should be called Mass Singe Player Role Playing Games with a little bit of Multiplaye on the side. That's where I think games today are moving towards and if that's the case then I imagine my time playing MMOs is coming to an end very soon because once the games I am playing now truely become outdated and there is no devs working on them and I don't have anything else left to enjoy I don't think there will be anything left to switch to the way the market is going. |

If I had a dollar for every post on this site just like this one I would be able to retire at a very young age. The funny thing is you can pretty much assume this person did not change the settings on the graphics and they either didnt get a gamepad or didn't switch the control scheme from default to compact. It's funny that people feel the need to bash other games on this site all the time and normally it baseless. I could go on the WoW forums and bash WoW to my hears content but I would ultimately be wrong since I only got to lvl 45 before getting tired of it. Same goes for other games that I only played for a short while. Why is it that people feel the need to bash games they didn't even give a chance or didn't even get to know 10% of what the game has to offer?

You know in all my years playing ffxi maintenance hasn't been too much of a issue for me. I have to say though since i moved to england it seems like the maintenance is done mostly during EU prime time. Which is kind of a drag. Can't wait to move back to the states. |

That's awesome to hear. One of the things i miss about not playing L2 is when your camping a group of mobs trying to get your lvl and bam somebody starts attacking. You then go on and own them and two of there friends because they thought that because you were a dark elf sorcerer you would be easy to take down if there was 3 people. All the while your blood is pumping wildly and your adrenaline is flowing and your yelling at your clan on vent that you just single handedly took down 3 people with your weak a$$ lvl 50 dark elf sorcerer that you were re-rolling. |

I have found that the party dynamics for japanese parties listed there happen to be true a lot. There is a reason why a lot of japanese players tend to just leave when the parties disband and that is the reason right there. It's not that they are being rude it's that it is what they expect from the party. I have been the only english speaking person in an all japanese party many times and it can be a bit difficult sometimes. They use different strategies for certain things and sometimes it works great but sometimes I think it isn't needed. Like early on in the game if you have a pld tank thfs sometime sata a job that is /nin near the end of the fight and when shadows where off the pld covers that person. Where in most english parties you have a first voker then the thf SATAs the tank. Little things like this is why i think a lot of japanese player have "JP onry" in there search comments while many english speaking players have "NA JP anyone" in theres. Mostly because most english speaking characters haven't partied with japanese characters and just want a party no matter what. A Japanese person will tend to wait for a party where they know what to expect even if it means they don't get a party. |

Well i wouldn't say that i am a "fanboi" but I do love ffxi a lot and have been playing it off and on for years. Many of the things you said were reasons why I quit before but I kept coming back again and again for some reason. I think what ffxi brings to the table that most MMOs out this day don't have a is very strong player community. Being able to switch linkshells or guilds for people that don't know the game is wonderful and having to group so often also strengthens the community as well. Buying gil isn't really feasible these days either since SE has taken large strides in getting rid of RMT players so it will cost you a fortune or you will get banned for doing it. I will however not say that this game doesn't take a lot of time and it can feel grindy a lot but I completely disagree that it becomes worse at 75. The game for me truly began when i first reached 75 but i spent a way less time grinding then i did doing this getting there. Now with all the endgame content there is so much to do it would be your own fault not to find something you enjoy and now it caters to smaller groups with events such as campaign, assault, and salvage needing 6 or less people to do. So i wouldn't just throw this game to wayside there is plenty to do and enjoy why do you think over half a million people still play this game. Yeah that's not as many as the 8 million that play WoW but pre-WoW having a player base over 500k was a huge deal. I would say this game is more for the old school MMO player that is used to games like EQ where it takes time to get things done and you won't ever see a character that has the best gear all around. That's one of the things I hate about newer games it seems like a race to max lvl with nothing but boring quests along the way just so you can raid all week long and few months later and BAM your character is fully geared out and now what do you do? Most of the community is does have a job over lvl 60 these days but many have multiple jobs to 75 now. How do they do that you ask? They lvl lower lvl jobs like now i am working on my rng its only lvl 40 but that only took me a about two weeks partying a few hours a night while still doing limbus each week. So for the new players looking at this game if you love the FF series and you like a challenging MMO i would say give this a shot you might fall in love with it like many people i know. Yes this game is not for everyone but what game out there is? I would say if you are all about PvP and soloing you should just go somewhere else though. |

Well on top of all that whitemage is arguably the best subjob for beastmaster and it's almost impossible to solo with whitemage. Hope you enjoy yourself. There are jobs that can do both fairly well though, blackmage has been known to solo from as low as lvl 30 all the way to 75 i know a lot of people who soloed from 50-75 as well. The good thing is though you are needed endgame for a lot of stuff unlike the beastmaster. Another job that can solo well and can group well is puppetmaster its kind of like a beastmaster but it has the same pet all the time and it's weaker in some aspects. Just so you know there are plenty of people out there now trying new combinations of jobs and soloing jobs that otherwise were thought to not be soloable. Have I done this? No, but there are people that have and still are. |

I enjoyed your post and agreed with most of the stuff you put in it. Granted RMTs are a thing of the past it did take SE a long long long time to get rid of those jerks. More races in a new game would be cool and more unique classes and maybe some new twists on the weapons would be great. For whoever it was that said a gunblade wouldnt work in ffxi we aren't talking about ffxi here we are talking about the new game same goes with the other classes you said were already in ffxi. I think having additional unlocked jobs at 75 might be a little too extreme for me though. If i lvled pld all the way to 75 i wouldnt want to lvl it all over again just to get a few new abilities. Its hard enough getting new abilities with merits then to have to completely start over from lvl 1 just to get a few abilities. I myself would like the new FF MMO to have lvling maybe setup like other FF games with the skill grid and what not having to unlock skills to be able to use certain armor weapons or spells like pretty much every other numbered FF ive played would be cool. The classes in ffxi were too cookie cutter i liked this for team based strategies but I hope SE doesn't try to "re-invent the wheel" and make an MMO just like the one they have. Completely changing every aspect and maybe getting a bunch of new developers on board would be awesome if you ask me. The more it's not like ffxi the more I would want to play it. I love ffxi still play and have been playing since NA release but why would i want to start a new game if it's just like my old one but without my awesome character friends, gear, and gil lol. SE is great at innovating the RPG maybe it will be the same with the MMORPG. We can only hope. |

The thing is you could do a few missions and then not do any for months if you chose to. I have to say I really enjoyed the storyline for bastok it was interesting to learn about the history of my home nation and what not. The rise of Zilart is probably the most bland out of all the storylines but I guess it provides easy endgame content. CoP probably has the best storyline and some of the most challenging missions in the game it is my favorite for sure and limbus is just awesome gotta love kicking proto-omegas butt and fighting jailers can be cool (never tried AV never gonna lol). ToAU probably changed the game more then any other not just threw the missions but the areas, assault, and salvage. I totally agree that the PS2 kinda holds the game back in the graphics department but it still looks great on my pc. I actually prefer having the chat window on the bottum in ffxi though i hate the tiny little chat boxes that are on the side in other games makes me think i need glasses. I wish there was more information about this new FF series MMO that I could find i love the FF series and FFXI has been one of my favorite MMOs of all time and probably will be forever (im getting too old for this stuff). |

Plus it's a very outdated site and between allakhazam, killingifrit, and ffxiclopedia you won't need to use it at all. Pyogens is an awesome for grafting that is for sure also i would recommend: it has listings of all the prices on the AH in game for every server so it so good when researching what you want to buy or what you should craft for the maximum profit. It aslo has the air ship timers like pyogenes and will even show what characters have bought and sold whatever. |

Well i think if enough people from ffxi switch to Aion the community will be strong because that's what we're used to and we will make it that way. I hope the game helps that by itself though like ffxi did. If the guild system works like it does in L2 idk if the community will be strong though because you can only have one guild and leaving it or kicking people has a lot of negatives in that game. The good thing though is if its setup like that the people in your guild will be like a family to you but it will be hard to get people from outside your guild to give you a hand with stuff which wasnt the case with ffxi at all. |

I run mine at 1024x768 then 1024x1024 for background. For me any higher and I have trouble reading the menus and with endgame content having my resolution higher causes lag which isn't good when I'm trying to time cure and shadows fighting tough NMs. I used to run it higher but I also used to have a lot better connection so I have to turn down a lot of things while fighting the fun stuff now. Plus now i can't fraps any of my fights like I used to and that's just lame because my ls has been doing some pretty cool stuff lately. Want to show all you plds out there how tanking proto-omega should go lol |

This game is a very good one and not like any other out there atm. It combines the traditional greatness of MMOs by being multi player yet still has the feel that other final fantasy games have. If you are a fan of final fantasy games you will really love this game for sure. That being said this game isn't for everyone there a hundreds of thousands of people that love this game but there are a ton that don' t. One thing that puts people off is the group based system partying up with people is an absolute necessity in this game. Some people take that as a bad thing while others love what that brings it brings a friendship that you won't find in most mmos. As for the complaints about the controls above you can switch the controls in game so its like other games with the WASD mouse controls idk why they let a small issue like that keep them from playing a great game. I myself love the default setup i can play the whole game with never touching my mouse. Another thing is the UI was made to be most efficient with a controller as this game was originally supposed to be used on the PS2 even though the pc release came out first in the US i'm no sure if that was the case in Japan. The language barrier really isnt a problem unless you play at weird time and even then there are lot of others that play at weird times too. There is a auto translate function but i normally use it because sometimes its just easier then typing out the weird place names and item names in the game. I never played EQ2 for more then a week and WoW just seems bleh to me and too easy so if you're looking for a challenging game and one that you will make good friends throughout your playing time ffxi is one for you. But don't take my word for it give it a try and see what you think. The game does start out a bit slow at first but it only gets better and better and i've never played a game with so much indepth endgame content. SE never takes shortcuts with anything if they are gonna add content they make sure its good and if there is complaints they fix it. The only endgame content I really don't like is einherjar and it was because the amount of effort was too much for the littel reward for it and it was hard to get enough people do it but SE is taking measures to fix this in the june update so that should be ok my ls might actually start doing it again. |

Well with the changes to shield mastery and auto refresh plds are kind of at the for front of tanking these days. That doesn't mean nins can't I think SE has done a good job of balancing out the tanks it all depends on what you are fighting now and how smart the tank is. I myself am a pld and I know a lot of 75 plds that I wouldn't trust for a second tanking mobs like proto omega, or even the lesser gods lol. It works the same for ninjas as well it all depends on what you're fighting and how good you play the jobs. Good gear can make a HUGE difference too, I don't think it would be possible to tank pld/nin if I didn't have all the haste gear I wear. It urks me when I see ninjas and pld/nins not wearing haste gear when tanking no matter how much emnity you can stack on reaching that +15% haste is top priority for nins and pld/nins as far as I'm concerned. I could go into more detail on that but I think it would belong in the ffxi section of the forums lol. Well anyways I'm really looking forward to Aion open beta and if there isn't one then I'm looking forward to the release looks like a great game and one that would suit me well. |

Lol first off love the analogy. FFXI isn't what it used to be for but that mainly is because I have lost many friends along the way and sometimes you can't fill that void even with new content. On the other hand ffxi has more content now then it ever had in the past. I remember when the game first came out and I thought it was impossible just to get 75 then I thought it was impossible to get rank 10 and finish rise of zilart. Now years later I have finished rank 10, zilart, CoP, and ToAU missions. Still there is so much to do even more then just sky, dynamis, and HNMs (if you could claim them lol). Now we have Limbus which is great, assault which is fun, salvage which is oh so awesome, einherjar bleh (maybe the new update on that will be good enough to make it worth while), oh and nyzul isle which is a different form of assault and is way cooler and really challenging. Oh and wait I forgot campaign I've pretty much lived in campaign since it was released only way to get merits as pld these days lol. So the state of ffxi as a game is better then ever there is still all of the stuff you remember plus a bunch of new fun stuff. The new jobs are cool I'm not sure when you left but dancer and scholar are oh so sweet to party with. So ffxi is doing well just wish I had some of those old friends left to experience it with but hey making new friends is easy in ffxi and you can meet some pretty cool new people that you wished you had met a long time before. Hope this helps you out I rambled a little bit but hey I love ffxi. |

Wow i am an "old" ffxi player as well but i still play from time to time. The problem is ive done everything ive wanted to do, well just about anyways but the things left are almost impossible. Finished bastok missions, zilart, CoP, and ToAU. Got some pretty kickass gears for my pld as well, short of some pretty much impossible items or ones that aren't really needed. Have to agree on the soloing thing sometimes it would just be nice to do something on my own besides crafting, farming, and really lame quests. (only quests soloable are lame lol) I'm looking for something new to switch to though that will bring some of the stuff I like from ffxi but bring some new stuff as well. I miss pvp from lineage 2 but its even more "grindy" then ffxi if you can believe. Dieing in L2 was an awful experience if you weren't with someone you trusted as well. So i'm hoping this game turns out to be something nice and fun to play. Characters look great, the world looks great so far, and pvp looks like its gonna be something fun. Plus having wings is just cool if you ask me. |

Yes once you reach 30 you can do quests to unlock new "Advanced" jobs. You do however have to start from the beginning with each and every job. That's why so many people have different jobs lvled on one character you simply go into your mog house and click on the change jobs tab and choose which job you want to be at that time. At lvl 18 you can do a quest that unlocks the sub job ability so when you go into your mog house you can choose that as well. Your subjob will only be half the lvl of you main job but that doesn't mean it is automatically you have to lvl it first to at least half your lvl for that to happen. Basically when it's half your lvl you get the abilities that job would have at that lvl or lower with the exception of 2hr abilities. You will only have the 2hr for your main job not your sub.
That's why most people don't make too many characters because you can lvl all the jobs with your character and race really doesn't play as big of a contribution in ffxi as it does in other games. There is differences but every race can do evey job with some pros or cons, but with the right type of gear and a good head race re | |
