Masterbrood I see a lot of the things you posted and have to agree. SE kind of dropped the ball with adding another tank with the expansion but they did give us two more healer classes. Scholar is both a blm and a whm and can do both very very well. In a CoP static Im working with atm we have a scholar as our main healer for all of the 50 capped missions and he doesn an amazing job to say the least. On top of that dancer is a great healer class. I was lvling my whm the other day in a pt with a dancer and rdm and all i was doing was casting regen and erase on the tank and bar spells on the party. We were fighting gobs, bats, and flys in gustav tunnel. When the gob would do a bomb toss normally after a fight the whm would cast curaga but the dancer did that for me using tp instead of mp and it was great. I didnt have to cast any debuffs because the rdm was there for that lol. So to be honest i got really really bored. I have to say dancer is one of the coolest jobs introduced. They can do some neat buffs and stuff for the pt with using minimal tp so thats great and they do a lot more damage then any other buff/healing class. A corsair might do more damage but they are strictly a buff/dd job so meh.

On the economy subject SE has gone threw great lengths too disrupt gil seller and they are doing a fantastic job they have banned thousands of accounts associated with gil selling and the economy is stabilizing and i couldnt be more happy about. Items that used to cost upwards of 8-10 mil are now at a affordable 250-300k I love it finally got a haubergon no way could i get one 2 years ago.

Oh thank you very much that helps me out a ton. I wasn't really looking to replace ffxi but I was looking for something fun and easy for when i feel like a break this sounds like what i was looking for I think i might try out the free trial soon and see how it works for me.

Ok flame wars aside. I was hoping to have a few questions answered from the topic of this section. I too play ffxi have been playing off and on since NA pc release. I play as a paladen and have tanked pretty much all that you can tank. My gear is not uber awesome I would like to think that it's above average though but there are a few pieces I really want to get my character like hautelclaire and some homan hands but that aside.

I see that there is solo play in this game and that's cool. I kind of miss being able to solo Ive played many other MMOs that soloing works almost as well as grouping but grouping is just a little better. Would that be true in this game? Or can you solo just as easily as you can group? Additionally I think I read something that the endgame content is kind of bland at best which is really a turn off for me. As you might guess I feel that ffxi endgame content is boundless. I just feel that Ive been playing ffxi too long and need something fresh and new. There is a guy in my linkshell that plays LOTRO and only shows up for certain planned events and he said the storyline is good? Would you agree with that? FYI i have read all of the LOTR books, the hobbit, and the simirilian so I am very familiar with this lore.

Also in ffxi the party needs to work very well together that is not too difficult do to the slow combat style of ffxi which i feel is needed later on. When you are in a group in LOTRO do you care what others are doing or does everyone just do their own thing and it all works out?

And finally can someone give me a link or something with a good website like ffxiclopedia, or allakhazam.ffxi. I checked a few and im disapointed at best. I would really like to find out more about the end game content of this game if there is any and how all the party mechanics works.

Well thanks I was hoping it wasn't as simple as that but that seems to be how most games are. Support, tank or damage dealer. Do you know if they are going to release any more classes in the future or can you customize the classes well enough that it's not needed?

Plds are still viable you  will be switching to a DD hybrid later on though to be able to maintain hate and help pt kill mobs faster. The thing with pld is its a straight shot to 70-73ish then it slows way down when you get into the merit party area. Most people just chain colibri all day and go /nin most of the time. So a tank is really not needed at all but you can join pts and be a DD hybrid i know some plds that have joytoy and justice sword and can do some pretty sweet damage but a justice sword isnt easy to come by.

I myself merit only in campaign its nice and its fun to just go in with a couple a friends for decent xp and points are nice too. For pld if you ally with sandy for campaign you can get some nice gloves and a head piece. It's not to hard to get them compared to items that are comparable in stats. I would say for enmity build only bahamuts mask, ajegshiler are better then the iron ram sallet from campaign. Plus if you get the hands and head you resistance to elemental. I myself mostly wear walmart turbin and dusk gloves for the haste but if I was tanking something big /war i would wear these head and hands for sure.

I was hoping someone could explain to me in sorta detail what the classes roles are and how they work in a group. I can kinda guess by reading abilities and what not but from my experience that's not always how it works.

I was thinking about getting this game and making a hunter because I've always loved ranger type jobs in most MMOs. And if possible could someone campare LOTRO hunter to say a ranger in ffxi, or ranger in Lineage2 that would help hugely as that is what im most familiar with.

I have to agree with you on almost all of your points. I too played all of those games you mentioned except LOTR online. I played galaxy when it first came game was not that good and just got worse and worse.

Lineage 2 i played that in beta and for a while afterwards then quit. Then i started again when they opened up a new server in EU to try and race my way to the top but of course bots beat me. That would have to be the only thing i have against that game to be honest lineage II was an awesome PvP game i dont think any can match it in that aspect. Also you might meet a lot of jerks in that game but if you got into a good clan they were like brothers.

I did enjoy guild wars it seemed like an easy version of WoW to me but it was free so i didnt care was a nice casual game when i only had time for casual.

As far as ffxi goes i love the game been playing off and on since NA pc release and currently i am on. I prolly will take a break again but will always return for some reason i just can't get enough of it. Grouping can be a pain but lately i have never seeked for more then 20 min or i just go do something else. Or i make a pt on occasion but xp partying is only one small part of this game. Reach 75 and it becomes something completely else but don't get me wrong you can do a ton before that. Loved how CoP was lvl capped made it challenging and i was able to get far without being 75. Dynamis, limbus, sky, salvage, assault, nyzul isle, campaign, besieged, HNMs what more can a guy want idk i loved them all. Haven't done many sea NMs yet but I will some day just need to get more people access in my ls.

I am sorry that I am not on your server and able to give you help. I would recommend going to the playonline website and watching the new player guide videos they are helpful to get you started. Also check out

www.ffxiclopedia.com

It has great info about just everything in the game and is pretty easy to navigate threw. I would also check the forum sections there people would be better able to answer your questions about in game stuff on there then here I would think. There are many sections in the forum to help you with different jobs and trade skill information as well. Also in the main website is one of the best guides to all equipment, quests, missions, Notorious monsters, and just about any other activity in the game. Hope this helps.

Well I love ffxi and have been playing off and on since the NA PC release. I am currently on and loving every minute of it. I would however not say that this is a perfect MMORPG. It is really to my liking though I don't mind looking for a group as I can easily find other things to do. Actually I don't even seek anymore to be honest I normally find something to do and if people need me badly they will ask. This is nice because I never have to sit and wait for a pt to be made normally I go in a replacement or the pt is almost full. This doesn't work with every job but I don't have any problem doing it on pld or rng.

I think one of the main reasons this game is not perfect is the fact that you cannot solo effectively at all unless you are bst, smn, or blm(later on for blm). I really enjoy parties but I have to tell you that being able to log on for an hour or and hour and a half and gain some xp would be nice. I love campaign in that aspect as far as merits points are concerned. The only draw back from campaign is no skill ups which is not good if you are lvl 75 and all your skill are at what they would be in the 60's this would be horrible you wouldnt really be a 75 character in my opinion.

The thing is I do love this games even with its drawbacks. I love the endless endgame content I don't know anyone who has completed everything and got everything they want from all the stuff available. I also enjoy that people in the game that I have known for years are good friends and it's nice to be able to escape from the bull of RL for a bit and just play a good game with good friends and enjoy yourself.

I'm really that this was your experience in this game. I have run into my fare share of L33T jerks thinking they are awesome and stuff. i also have run into many people that are nice and willing to help out a whole lot. The thing about this game is you need help from fellow adventurers to get most stuff done. I have got a whole ton done but I am curious what lvl you were when you delt with this issue. I know that back in the day when I needed help wtih my subjob and unlocking advanced jobs there were people there to help and I've helped many others in that aspect but now I have to admit that I would rather help other people with other things. Like getting AF or finishing up lvl cap quests. Or even camping an NM to help a friend get a much needed item.

Yep the dunes pretty much suck balls. I myself will most likely never be going back there. I have all the jobs I need to lvl to at least 25 atm except for bst but I don't need a pt for that one. I guess this game just wasn't for you or what I would like to think is you just started a little too late is all. I remember when I was first going threw the dunes as war, mnk, and pld the problem I had was there was too many people there and not enough camps but that was back in fall of 2003.

Umm there was a buddy key thing in 03 there has been a buddy key thing since the game came out. I'm not 100% on how it works but it used to be purchased in game when it was released in NA. Maybe we are talking about a different kind of buddy key though.

Yeah except for people are not enjoying the recession in the US economy. I on the other hand am loving all these low prices for stuff on the AH. Yeah the stuff I farm is worth a lot less then it used to be and the time it took to make a mil takes the same amount of time to make 100k. The great thing for me is what used to cost 8 mil costs 200k so im making enough gil for stuff in 1/4 of the time it used to take. So im really happy now. On top of that I'm thinking of adding gardening into my gil making schemes. Hopefully that will double my profits over time of course depending on what I decide to garden and how that all works out.

Great advice from both of you guys but just an FYI whm gets the first three teleports dem, mea, and holla at lvl 36 the quests arent difficult as whm but you will need to have some fame for them. Second set of teles which are yhoat and altepa are a little harder but if you crab a friend can be done easily and they are at lvl 38. After that there is Vahzl which is at 42 im not sure how the quest is for that I havent done it yet but im guessing its the harder. Later on you can get teleports that send you to the past to three areas in the past. I dont know what level or how those are aquired though ill get back to you on that but by then im sure you'll know if your a whm

Well there is a funny thing going on with Odin right now. It is the most populated server right now and its causing problems for people. So SE has a special deal that you can switch to any server you want to from Odin and keep all your stuff for free. So if you want to you can join pandy and it wouldnt cost you anything. Idk if you have friends on that server but if you did I don't know if you'd be looking for a new LS.

Yeah prices are really really low now. I remember when a hauby cost around 12mil now I just bought one for 200k the the other day. The bad thing I have a sword I payed 1.3mil for and now ill be lucky if i can get 130k out of it. Prices are lowering by the day. Stuff I put up for sale one day at 100k are selling for 85k two days later. Its getting crazy the only way you can sell a lot of your loot is to undercut the prices by a lot and that just aint cool. Though I do like it when im buying stuff.

Yeah that would be really crazy those wyverns are really small I don't even think they could carry a taru. Now if you could tame and ride bahumut or nidhogg now that would something cool i think.

Sadly I have to say yes it is very "grindy". You will need a full party of 6 players to get xp after lvl 10 unless you are one of the few jobs that can solo.

2) What are the classes / races

races: galka, mithra, hume, elvaan, tarutaru. Race is not a much of a factor as in WoW you can play every job with every race and each has its advantages and diss advantages but all can be good.

job are and there are many; whitemage, blackmage, redmage, monk, warrior, paladin, ninja, samurai, dragoon, darkknight, ranger, beastmaster, summoner, dancer, scholar, bluemage, corsair, puppetmaster, bard. I might have missed 1 or 2 but there are a ton

3) How do you move around? is it the regular WSAD configuration?

you can use WSAD if you want to. I'm one of the few that prefers the default settings you don't need the mouse at all if you get used to it.

5) Is the combat fast or flow paced?

Both id say. In a pt it is really fasts paced as well in endgame but soloing can be slow paced depending on what job you are.

6) Is there crafting and is it worth doing?

yes the crafting system is very intriquitte and very worth while.

7) Free trial? Where can it be obtained?

I'm no sure on that one but it sounds like $2 and thats not too bad at all.

8) What do you do when you hit the cap? PVP? Raid? Instances? World bosses?

I have posted some sort of in depth posts about this subject it is amazing best endgame ive ever played in any MMO.

9) any worth while pvp??

I would say no. There is ballista and brenner these are games and there is no real advantage of doing this besides your enjoyment i rarely do this if ever.

10) Is the game populated?

Yes the game has over 500k active accounts on 30 something servers. My server is about average and normally has about 2-3k people on at a time. I think my server is mainly japanese though because during their primetime its usually about 3.5k on.

Thanks for all your help!!!

I don't think the lower lvls are as bad as people are making it sound. Yes it is not like it used to be but its not like you can't do it. I think the problem is now that the majority of people have at least one job if not more then job to 75 most people tend to do other things then lvl jobs now. I myself would rather be doing limbus, dynamis, or sky then leveling a job. I am however leveling rng as a side thing because its fun and I will hopefully be able to use it endgame in my LS at least for some things. Though it is lvl 44 atm I don't remember it being a problem getting it to there.

If you are on Caitsith I know plenty of linkshells and mine is currently recruiting atm. I'm not sure how many new players we have atm but we don't have any level restrictions atm. Send me a PM if you want some more info. The linkshell im speaking of is a social ls and we do events at times and help people get different missions done as well. The best thing would be to shout for one there are always linkshells recruiting or you might want to ask someone in a pt if they seem nice if you can join their linkshell.
