Originally posted by Kryziz I'll add a little on this subject. Endgame there are tons of things to do more now then ever. Dynamis- Dynamis is a somewhat instanced fight that many people can participate in. I say semi because if a group is in the zone you can't enter but only people with an "Hourglass" can get into the fight so you won't have people in there that you don't want with you. Every job has Relic gear or AF2 as some call it this is equipment for each job and only drops in dynamis. Dynamis is a lot of fun as far as Im concerned because you have a huge amount of people and a huge amount of mobs to kill. It can be difficult killing some of the bosses such as dynamis lord which is in Dynamis-Xarcabard. It can be done though and is fun while trying. Limbus- Limbus is a kind of like dynamis but only and alliance of 18 can enter there is some great equip drops in limbus and I find it to be really fun. You will have to complete the storyline missions of Chains of Promathia to be able to access limbus but completing CoP was one of the most fun and rewarding experiences ive had in ffxi. Sky- There a lot of people that go to sky to kills gods there are 5 gods. They each drop different items and they are some pretty good ones on top of that. There are 4 lower gods representing north, south, east, and west. Genbu, seiryu, suzaku, and byakko. These come from either chinese or japanese mythology. The top god is Kirin you have to kill all the other gods before being able to fight kirin and while fighting him he will summon the other gods but they are not as powerful and when you first fight them. Killing kirin for the first was a moment i will never forget. HNMs- there are various HNMs located around Vana'Diel which is the name of ffxis world. They pop at different times depending on when they were killed. I don't have much experience with these but I know many of them are dragons and can be extremely difficult battles. Others that come to mind besides dragons are king behemoth and adamantoise. Those are fun I guess but HNM hunting is not my cup of tea because you can sit around for hours waiting for them to pop just to have another LS get the claim and you have to wait until it pops again which can be more then a day. Sea- Sea is kinda like sky in a way you get access when you complete Chains of promathia there are different NMs located around sky that drop various things and pop at times like HNMs. The hardest monster in the game as far as im concerned is located in sea. Absolute Virtue has only been killed by two english speaking linkshells on my server sadly not mine. It drops some of the best rings in the game but I have yet to see anyone on my server with any. It is almost impossible to kill AV i think it was some kinda joke the devs at SE wanted to play on the players but i could be wrong Assault, salvage, and einherjar- I don't have too much experience with these Campaign- Campaign was released in the newest expansion it is a ton of fun. You can solo there for really good experience and can obtain some pretty nice items with allied notes which you receive there. The only draw back is you don't receive skill ups while killing things in campaign but it is a nice place to go to get merit points to further your character without needing a party to do so. I myself don't really like "merit partys" I prefer to get merits threw this now that it is available. I hope this helps you get a grasp on what endgame can be like. Sorry i dont have more information on the ToAU stuff like assault, salvage, and einherjar. An added note this is not normally considered "Endgame" But BCNMs, ENMs, and KSNMs can be very useful. They are level capped battles that drop some of the best items in the game. You are able to do them by collecting beastmen seals = BCNM, kindred seals = KSNM, and ENMs can be done once a week but don't require items to do. Wish I had some help for you on the subject of Summoner but I tank it's what I do. I can say this though it might be beneficial to you to lvl a different job to 50 something before taking on summoner that way you can level with all your prime avatars. I don't believe you can get fenrir and diablos threw the lvl 20 mini battles but I could be wrong. At level 50 you are able to get help with "Prime" fights which will allow you to have all your avatars at lvl 1 instead of having only carbuncle until lvl 20. You might want to research that yourself instead of listening to me about summoner though. Take care and I hope you enjoy your experience in Vana'Diel

I would venture to say that it might be harder to find people partying in the dunes now that it was a year. Its been forever for me and I don't plan on leveling anything there anytime soon. On the other hand I know a bunch of people in my LS were leveling there that last few weeks trying out new jobs and leveling up subjobs that they need for endgame stuff. I was however leveling in Qufim and the jungle not too long ago and there was a bunch of people leveling there at that time. Hope you get lucky and find a good group one day and get past there it can be a pain there cause people are learning how to play new jobs or just starting out but I bet you will enjoy it once you get past all that. I'm sure you'll also find that the second time around getting to lvl 30 is a lot easier and from then on the xp flies until 75 with the ToAU areas and all. |

Dangit Korvix stole all the good stuff. Welcome and enjoy is all I can say now I guess. Oh and another thing about the stories I find this to be my favorite because it has 7 storylines all together and they all seem to intertwine in one way or another. Ive only completed bastok, zilart, CoP, and ToAU. They were all great and I loved them. WoTG hasn't been completed yet but I'm current on that and it seems to be shaping up into a great storyline can't wait for more content on that guy. Well anyways good luck and welcome to Vana'Diel. |

I have to agree with the others about easy money starting out in windurst. Being able to collect crawler silk and crawler calculi and selling them can make a huge difference. On top of that most crafting costs a lot of money but you start out fishing you can make some huge money for a low level player. The fishing guild is in windurst so you can pick up a cheap rod for small fish and some worms for cheap and start catching moat carp. They are incredibly easy to catch and you will catch a lot of them quickly. They are selling for about 3k a stack but considering most gear at lower levels is dirt cheap that will add up really quickly for you. You will easily pay off your entry cost towards fishing as well. Other crafts will take months or over a year just to break even and you'll still need to lvl it more to make any real money of them but fishing can be done easily and is mostly profit until around lvl 50 or so skilling up can be a time and money sink but if you just do it for the initial gil you'll need to get going its good. Check this link out for more info. I would suggest using worms starting out though cause they are dirt cheap compared to insect paste or lures.

I really don't know what to think about this topic of population on servers. A high population can be good for parts of the game but can be a huge problem with other parts. Yeah it's nice to have a lot of people on the server so you can always get a party and your server doesn't constantly lose besieged but when hunting NMs or HNMs having a populated server can be a real pain in the but. I haven't played on any servers other then caitsith but from what I've experienced on it there seems to be a good balance of players not a lot but not a little either. It still can be a pain claiming mobs like despot and zipacna which drop items used to pop god HNMs. Square has really made it nice though how if you kill the lottery pop mob you automatically claim them. It still isnt fun camping despot forever with another linkshell next to you doing the same thing. |

I know how getting into a game late in its development can really be difficult I had these troubles when I returned to L2. The thing with ffxi is now more then ever its easier for new players to "Catch up" to the more experienced ones because they just introduced new jobs so people will be lvling them and since the game started people are always going back and starting new jobs so finding a pt shouldnt be too bad. On top of that later in the game after 55 or so you can level in the treasures of aht urghan areas which are incredibly easy as far as xp per hour goes. Those areas pretty much changed the game as far as that aspect. What used to take months to get from 60-75 now can be done really quickly if you have the funds. Oh and speaking of funds stuff in the game is soo sooo soooooo much cheaper now then it was. Items that used to cost 6-14 million gil now cost around 250-350 thousand. Square Enix has really put effort in to limiting the abilities of gil sellers on all servers and it's helped people out a ton. |

It seems to me that you are going about this in the right way moving from a game like WoW. Red mage is a good job but starting out as one can be kinda difficult at times. If you stick with it though it is a very very rewarding job. The problem with red mage is when you finally reach level 10 you will get invites into parties that will want you to main heal or backup heal. This can be kinda difficult as rdm because of low mp and not having a sub job makes it even lower. If you are really enjoying it though i'd say stick with it later on in the game everyone absolutely loves red mages and they are necessary for almost everything in the game. I don't know what it would be like doing things later in game without a rdm whether it be pretty much every mission i've done or any of the endgame stuff. Damage dealing jobs on the other hand are kind of a dime a dozen. SE has done good things to change this though with the introduction of corsair, blu mage, scholar, and dancer. All of which are fantastic jobs. Good luck with your adventures in Vana'diel and I hope you give the storyline a chance it is one of the most interesting and deep stories i have ever experienced in an MMO. Wait not one of the most it is the best what was i thinking. |

There is a windowed mode now for the pc version. The problem is it greatly reduces how well the the graphics look on the game and can cause lag issues. I really don't know why it does this but it does. I usually keep it on regular mode though unless im going to be doing a lot of quests and i need to look stuff up a lot. |

Its really hard to answer this question because most people have only played on one server so most think their server is the best. I'm going to be honest with you about Caitsith though. When i log on during your time frame you spoke the server usually has about 2-2.5k people on. The thing is when i log on during JP primetime there is usually over 3.5k so Im guessing my server is mostly JP and less NA players there is no way Id switch though because of the friends i have on this server. I do on the other know a lot of my old friends switched over to Unicorn at the time they said it was less populated but that was actually good for their play style. Less competition for the over camped NMs and such. Hope this helps. Oh and by the way pandemonium AH has the lowest prices right now. Thats usually a good thing for newer players as well but when AH prices are cheaper so is the stuff your selling so hopefully its to your benefit. |

Changing jobs does not cost any money and there is no loss of xp or any penalty for changing jobs. You will need to do quests to unlock most of the jobs though there are only a few you can start out with at the beginning. Also if you die while lvling on job the xp penalty will only effect the job you are lvling not your sub job or any of your other jobs. Hope this helps you out. |

Yes you read that correctly ffxi was actually the first MMO to break the 1 million barrier I remember that was around the Ps2 release if im not mistaken. Tons of things have changed in this game most are for higher lvls but some at lower lvls. I think when Treasures of Aht Urghan was released it completely changed the way the game was played but thats mostly lvl 50+ so you should be able to get back into the swing of things easily if you have experience with the game already |

Well I think you answered your own question. You said your friends obsess about this game and its all they talk about so that would lead me to say that yes this game is fun. You should give it a try ffxi is better when you have friends to play with too so try and see if your buddies from work can get you a buddy pass and Im sure they'll be able to answer any questions you have about the game as well and if not we have some pretty educated people that post here. Don't forget though there are some un-educated people here as well so try it on for size and see if it fits. |

Well Im not trying to be mean but you're gonna have to get used to the no hand holding thing. There isnt a quest in the game that gives you very good instructions on what to do, you're going to have to look it up online. Thats ok though the online guides are very helpful and easily accessible but try to get into a decent linkshell that will be the most helpful thing you can get in the game. I think this is an SE thing though it can be like this in the other FFs as well. |

Hey there I remember about 2 yrs ago they started up a new EU server and a lot of people returned to L2 and a lot of people switched from other servers to get a fresh start with a hope of being the top clan on the server. I was one of the people that returned to L2. What I'm getting at is I joined a clan early on that was better then average I'd say and actually just short of awesome. The thing was there was a clan on the server that botted the hell outta the game and got there people higher then us too quickly and in about the 45 to low 50s lvls they were killing off people just to keep them down or their rogues would train a bunch of monsters and fain death and screw you up and they would take your gear. I know this is part of the game and its one of the things i loved about the game the fact that you always had to watch your back and your clan always had your back in a moments notice. The problem was it was cheap because they botted their characters so while we were sleeping or at work they were gaining lvls. So eventually the end result was people in our clan switched clans and left or hanging which just aint cool or they got fed up with it and returned to their old server with there 75+ toons. So I returned to a different game what im wondering is if anyone still plays on that EU server or if its pretty dead cause I can imagine this happened to a lot of people and nowadays if someone starts out its not gonna be with a clean slate so most would probably go to bartz since its always been the most populated. So does anyone play on the EU server or did it just keep a few people around that like to live in an empty world with few people? |

Awesome I hope you enjoy yourself when you return. Treasures of Aht Urghan pretty much made ffxi an entirely new game when it comes to the later stages of the game. I hope you enjoy these changes. I didnt at first I thought they made too easy to lvl but content like salvage and assault are fun especially nyzul isle probably my favorite thing in the game now. There is also einherjar but ive only done a few of those and I dont think the reward is enough for the effort they are pretty hard to but i guess there are some nice new adjurations dropped from them but i havent seen anyone wearing that gear. Yeah i tried to return to lineage 2 about a year ago and let me tell you its hard. There are many well established clans that have people all in the 75+ range and if you played that game before you know the lvl grind is about twice as long if not longer then the one in ffxi. And getting killed in that game just downright sucks especially if your carma isnt doing to great. Which mine normally wasnt

Well im not sure if the posts above this helped you at all but I'm going to try and answer your question the best I can and not get involved with others opinions of the game.
There is an auction house, each starting nation has there own auction house and each of those auction houses is connected to an out lying village. The main auction house where you will find most of the gear for later levels is in Jeuno and Aht Urghan the two major cities where most of the people are. Well there is PvP in this game and it comes in two forms. There is a game called ballista which can be fun at times and a game called brenner which can be fun at times. I won't go into much detail about how they are played it should be easy for you to find the rules. There was a time when I played in every ballista I could and when brenner was released it was the same but these don't really provide any advantage in the game and are more as a side game that not many people are involved with these days.
Yes there are raids but in FFXI they are not usually referred to as raids. You have Dynamis which is huge and can have up to 52 people involved. Limbus which can have up to 18 I believe. Einherjar, salvage, assault, and campaign ops are other types of raids you can get into more detail about all of these if you go to http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Main_Page and click on the links they will give you a description of what each of them are in great detail and what the rewards are. There are also gods and HNMs you can fight with large groups. Gods are faught by gaining pop items from certain mobs in Sky then using those items to pop the God. These drop some good gear and can be really fun battles and its not hard these days to find linkshells that do this. The HNMs on the other hand are mobs that pop threwout the world these are the monsters where you need to know what time frame they will pop and can endup sitting and waiting for them to pop, but you can get very rewarding items and great battles from these monsters and there are a ton of them out there. I don't particularly participate with HNMs because the competition to claim these monsters can be insane and with the new expansions I don't think the time and effort is worth the reward. For me though ffxi is all about the missions there are currently many storylines and mission tracts. You have the 3 nations storylines from bastok, sandy, and windurst you will need to complete most of the missions for your starting nations to get some things, like airship pass, and access to zilart missions. Zilart was the first expansion for ffxi and has a great storyline with some fun mission you will need to complete most of these missions to acquire access to sky. Chains of Promathia is a series of lvl capped missions and some uncapped missions completing missions with grant you access to new areas and sea. Treasures of aht urghan has a long list of missions which i am still working on so you will need to look some info up on it at the link i posted above so far the storyline seems like its interesting and will become very good. The new expansion Wings of the Goddess only has a few missions with a few side quests involved which seems like its going to be awesome but they need to release more content at this time. I don't know much about WoW but i don't think the gear has tiers but there are many pieces of armor and weapons available from all of the things ive talked about that serve there purpose in certain situations. The cool thing is there is generally no item that is the best all the time depending on what you are doing so there is always the need to do all of these activites and let me tell you its not something that can be done easily getting all the Relic, AF+1, Salvage, adjuration, god, and assault sets of armor is almost impossible I have not completed any of these sets and most people havent. So there is a great sense of accomplishment with just getting one of these pieces. Its kind of a rare experience to see people with full sets of these as well its not like everyone is running around with them and if you dont have them you are a noob or something. There are also BCNMs and KSNMs which are somewhat instanced battles that have caps at lvl 20, 30, 40, 50, 60 and uncapped. These can be a great source of income as some of the better gear is obtained threw them and can be sold on the auction house or as a way to acquire the gear you want by completing them yourself. All of these thing ive mentioned are discussed in great detail on ffxiclopedia this is just a little overview I hope will help you understand that there are tons of things to participate in while playing this game. On top of that I'm sure Square Enix will release even more content and maybe some new armor sets with there new expansion Wings of the Goddess. Well I think Ive rambled on enough I hope this helps you out a bit but if you are thinking about playing ffxi Id suggest getting it and giving it a try but keep in mind this game just gets better and better the more you get into don't get discouraged or concentrate solely on lvling or you will miss all the things this game has to offer and it might leave a bad taste in your mouth like it has for others. Good luck and I hope to see you in Vana Diel |

There are no EU servers, all the servers are used by people from every region whether it be the US, EU, or JP. I like it this way because no matter when you are playing there are always people on. I live in the UK atm though im from the US and it hasnt effected my play much except for the fact that I see some old friends less and some friends a lot more. |
