So I just quit AOC, a game which I played since beta in Feb. I'm sure most people would agree that AOC failed to deliver on publicised features and was unfinished in a lot of crucial areas, the biggest dissapointment for me was the lack of grouping or the incentive to group. That been said I still enjoyed the game overall and loved trying the different archetypes and feat builds, however I couldnt justify 1 more month of subscription... Now that I'm in the market for an MMO the obvious choice is WAR, I'm not worried about graphics, lack of end game content and the usual other issues you get at release, what I do want is a game that has the mechanics to alow players to group efficiently and purposefully, delivers on promised features and has enough variation in the characters to keep me re-rolling If i want. So will I be happy?

Play and other retailers (in the UK) have been seriously messed around by Funcom/Eidos with regards to pre-orders/EA. I don't think play are at fault at all in this , they have no interest in annoying customers they couldn't care less if you have a mount.

I placed my PO with play on the 20th of April and have had everything I should have had.
1. Pre order code for mount and EA 2. Game delivered before release date. 3. Working game code (although key problems are nothing to do with Play as they are in the box)
Happy Play.com customer as always. |

dont you just love the ''its only x more whats wrong with you people'' Greedy corporations love you.
The issue isnt £ vs $ The issue isnt even £ vs € The issue is that Funcom has said often in videos and interviews that their prices will be the same as you would pay for other popular MMO's this is the case for the USA its also true for Europe, however the UK will be paying more.. As far as I know its not a definite? that pdf just shows euros and dollars there is no mention of sterling.

Yeah same reason for me. There a lot of fuss about this but personally I'm happy to pay the 8 dollars if I can be fairly certain of getting a spot.. if I were to sign up and find all the keys taken I'd be annoyed to say the least. |

Does anyone know or have experience with File Planet and these Betas? Whats the chance of these 50k keys being taken in the first few hours or do you think it will take longer? I played AC2 in the same way and that one didnt seem to get 'full' |

I developed game claustrophobia whilst playing LOTRO, the overall game map was large-ish but I got frustrated by the box-like world. My mmo days began playing Asheron's Call which is set on a large Island, with other smaller islands around it, here you could explore - in fact there are 3rd party PlugIns for the game to aid in navigation, Sadly developers have moved away from this kind of open design because of the restrictions to textures and server management etc, although the end results offer improved graphics and a smoother gaming experience, which should translate to a better game.. For me it will be the psychology of the design that keeps me playing. Do I feel like I am in a series of rectangular mountainous boxes? Will it flow and have interesting twists and turns? What will the fast travel system be like? If its done well I don't mind loading screens and conveniently placed barriers.

There is always some kind of penalty - otherwise you may aswell be playing in God mode. Since the advent of instanced dungeons and 20+ Raid areas/dungeons dropping items/corpse retrieval has become too problematic for Game Devs and players alike, it was ok in the 'good old days' when some +50 kin member would help you get your corpse back from a busy area (part of the cool thing of being in a kin getting help etc) Now its just too problematic the way the encounters are set up, Ive seen 20+ people get wiped out at the end of a multi-staged encounter. In my experience groups disintegrate quickly andinstances close - say goodbye to important items. |

I once read a famous article on mm o's - the author suggested that the only kind of death should be 'permadeath' anything else is silly, however this would be quite obviously really terrible for the share holders/$ which companies like FC need to have to exist. I believe there should be at least some drawback to dying such as being removed from the combat zone (which in itself can end the nights gaming), reduction in item wear (as in LOTRO) etc...these are minor 'tweaks' that the game devs would experiment with to get right based on the actual game mechanics basically. I have to say that some of my favorite gaming experiences were in Asherons Call retrieving important items off corpses from dungeons or some banderling infested hell hole after I'd stupidly stumbled into a portal that I had no business entering..

would you re-invent the wheel and come up with a square? although I have to say that after watching a video on crafting that it seemed v.similar to lotro - but then again killing spiders will never be a new experience, I'm glad FC have not tried something radical they know what their customers want and hopefully there will be enough new bits and bats to make it worth playing, although I think that playing a new game is perfectly acceptable if all thats changed is the graphics, sounds, etc. |
