I REALLY REALLY hope that blizzard is not reading any of this, because if i install diablo to find out that they are trying to make it into an mmo, i would be pissed off.

Final though, if you consider diablo 2 an mmo, do you consider, Dungeon siege 2, Silverfall, Loki, Beyond divinity, Titans Quest, Sacred, Arcanum, and Dungeon lords an mmo?

HOW DARE you put arcanum into the same bag as games like titan quest/sacred or dungeon siege. Heresy.

At least 2-3 years I would say. No official statements yet about release date.

Think about it this way, you now have 60 million dollars (very rough estimate based off of Funcom saying they sold 1,000,000 copies at ~60 USD a pieace) and two months to fix the game and get things to the point they SHOULD have been at for release. Then you can start charging people the monthly fee.

I don't want to object your intellect nor financial skills, but do you think that when the game sells for 60$, all 60$ are going directly to the Funcom and there's absolutely no cost of anything?

Oh and if it's happening only in online games, you can try to turn off your firewall while playing one. BSOD with a pagefault in nonpaged area has many causes but one of them could be firewall.

Don't see anything in admin. I get hitching right before the crash, on an odd note however, I forgot this in the original post. There have been a couple of times the sound has continued to stutter while the BSOD is up, never had sound with a BSOD before, don't know if that has anything to do with it.

Are you checking temperatures of your components while playing VG? VG can overheat from time to time some part more than newer and better looking games. Don't forget to also check MB/Cpu temperatures along with GPU.

VG is improving, but it will have tough time going head to head with Aion later this year.

THe same was said about AoC thousand times and it actually had an opposite effect on the population.

Not saying that Aion will be linear korean style mmorpg while VG is closer to non-linear sandbox style.

Well, that will only happen, though, if Aion (and Warhammer) will be games that suck, like AoC is. I am not under this impression.

I am very happy though that the devs consider it a main priority to get new players into the game, because thats what Vanguard really needs right now.

People thought the same about AoC. WAR will be no different. It doesn't matter whether it will be filled with bugs or not, the whole concept behind AoC/WAR is simply wrong.

What the ~F~ are you talking about? I said you can get to level 50 crafter without leaving your starting town. Which is true. Once you do that, you can start playing with other continental styles (by rift traveling) and do other crafting quests. And you can still stay level 1. I think this is what was OP asking about.

That depends on what you have been doing. For me the games usually stops at cap level and I either start an alt or look for another game. VG is the game for me that I'm still enjoying even when playing on 6th alt, because the classes are great and distinctive and the world too large to see it all with first 3-4 chars.

If you're level 47 ranger there still things to do. You can farm your swamp armor or apply for a raiding guild and go for APW. There is large tahatamani temple that gives great jewellry rewards or you might just have fun with crafting/diplo.

Yes you can make money only with crafting and yes you are able to become level 50 crafter without ever leaving your starting town.

I just got off a 2 month stint in LOTRO and I found it so boring after awhile because theres just really no challenge and your hand is held through the entire game. Even the PVP is easy mode. Went back to EQ2 for a bit and while its more complex for sure its so easy now as well (has me wishing it was more like it used to be even though I didnt like it back then).

So with Vanguard is it a real challenge? I know it is heralded as an old school type RPG but people say the player classes are really overpowered now in PVE. If it is complex/hard I intend on upgrading my comp and giving it a shot.

Fact is VG is much easier than as it was at the release. Nevertheless the game is still more difficult than other mainstream games released lately (WoW, LOTRO, TR, AoC..)

It is truth that you feel powerful in VG, because each class has tons of distinctive abilities (disciple can ressurect others, summon others, heal without mana, let others ressurect him, feign death, 5 different buffs, 7 different debuffs...) but still one mistake and you're dead. If you underestimate the area you will make a wrong pull (or stand at wrong place) and youll die. It is almost impossible to run from combat once you engage without dying and if you die you get XP death penalty and all your BoE items stay on corpse.

Vets say VG is easy now, but that is really in compare to how VG was at release. Partially the difficulty is lowered at higher levels (after level 35+) , but it might be a nightmare for levels 6-20 if you are used to Lotro only. It is quite common to see threads on official forums by newcommers saying the game is too difficult.

Great review

I would like to add:

Despite the fact that the world in DDo is instanced, I feel it is much more realistic and live than any other world. For me it reduces immersion when a NPC sends me to bring a latter to his old friend living in distant land, and then when you travel there, it takes 3 minutes of running through a land full of random creeps. And then you enter a town which is supposed to have 15.000 population, and in game it is represented by 3 huts and 1 tower.

In DDo the quests make sense. The meaningless travel is removed and it teleports you immediately to an area that is dangerous. The city in DDo is large and based on Eberron setting it should have 17.000 which is believable. Some might say it is silly to see a quest giver at every corner that has a mission for you to clean some dungeon below the town, but in fact, the eberron setting is build that way. Stormreach is supposed to be build on old giant ruins and it should hold lots of treasure below.

Customer Support in VG is A+++ This is one of the few games where you feel the GM's will help you with any problem you might encounter in a very short time. Not only problems actually, they might help you even changing your name which is a payed service in a lots of other games.

Just give up already. A game without an endgame is not a finished product at all. I'd rather play a game full of quest holes, forcing me to grind my ears out just as long as there is a goal to reach ie. ENDGAME. People are paying to get nowhere fast.

Playing for the endgame is like living for the weekend. Seriously, there is something wrong about people that want to rush throught the leveling and expect to have "fun" with end-game item grinds.

- No Gear grinds or Rep time sinks - Woot!
- Revolutionary FUN combat system - Awww Yeahh!
- FFA PvP - Fun!
- Diverse fun quests - Sweet!

Hope the second best MMO (WoW) you have ever played is not also your worst MMO you have ever played.

Well, I have a deeper problem with many of these games.

When I play a fantasy MMO, and its not LotRO or AoC or any of these really bad IP designs who fail to do the standards, I usually have a choice between

  • Warrior or Fighter or sth: a class which simply does melee fighthing without anything else
  • Paladin: a defensive fighter with some healing
  • Ranger or Archer or Scout etc: ranged damage, exploration
  • Rogue: melee dps with bad defense, stealth specialist
  • Berserker or Monk or something: An all out melee class with really bad defense
  • Cleric or Shaman or Druid or whatever: Healing
  • Sorcerer or Mage or whatever, typically in multiple variants like Necromancer etc: Magic damage
  • Bard: a buffer class with some social heavy context

While in a Vampire MMO, as fun as the idea sounds, what can I play ?

Vampire.

Or Vampire.

Or, wait, also Vampire.

One can be lucky if you get also the chance to play a Human or a Werewolf. Hey, maybe they introduce also Sorcerers, Witches, Zombies, Liches, Ghouls etc. But thats often not what is done. Instead, we get the aforementioned choice between Vampire or Vampire. Its just plain boring and while it might be fun for 1-2 hours or maybe also 1-2 month, it soon gets pretty old.

Doh... you probably never even heared about White Wolf Vampire Pen and Paper RPG system?

The vampires there differ a lot, much more than in any mmorpg out there. The system there would be FANTASTIC FOR A SANDBOX game instead of a silly class/level system.

Please use google.com next time and find some information about Vampire RPG systems before posting such a silly post.

Anyway there is a rumour that White Wolf is developing a WoD (World of Darkness) MMORPG which would include Vampires/Hunters/Werewolfs.
