Hmm...Does anyone really need a point for point analysis of why Dark and Light is the laughingstock of the game industry? If so, I'll happily point you in the right direction: http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/setview/reviews/gameID/58/loadReview/43 On a more serious note, I definately could have gone into more detail. Mentally noted. Thanks for all the love-hate posts, I print out each of them on 3x5 cards and run around my house naked with them all stapled to my body. |

It's always a shame that honest and communicative Devs get the hook while the cookie cutter rubber stamp guys make off with all the loot. Just that nature of the business I guess. Good luck in the future Runestone, if you had a somewhat playable, game more people might have looked past the bugs to find something to keep them with you.

I am not doing the review as I am unwilling to reconfigure my computer enough to run the DnL client although you can look forward to me mumbling incoherently in a weekly peice. |

I realize you are all waiting with baiting breath for the aforemention review, but it should go without saying that it won't be released until it's ready. I'm sure the people who will read it are quite tired of half-finished products by now. That being said I'm not to sure that any review will satify anyone still following the game. I'll refrain from using the dreaded S-word so you'll just have to wait. Hopefully you all are playing something fun in the meantime. |

Thanks for all the replies guys. Yes, I did read the first review and I thought it was very well thought out. I thought it spent a lot of time describing the gameplay and backstory. Being as this was a re-review I decided to use my space to focus on the gameplay elements that stood out to me personally rather then simply repeating the previous review. Looking back I wish I would have gone into detail about all the elements that changed since the first review, but nonetheless it give an accurate picture of my take on the game. My opinion doesn't count for more just because it's published and it is silly to think I chose to do it for any other reason then it was available and needed another look. Obviously not everyone will agree with me, even the people who enjoy it for different reasons or have had different experiences in the game. That's the great thing about the forums: You are free to disagree. Until next time |

Perhaps you should read my debate written a couple weeks beforehand where I say exactly the same thing. http://www.mmorpg.com/showFeature.cfm/loadFeature/727 "The flaw in that logic is that they chose to make an MMO and knew going in what the financial responsibility was from the get-go. No one put a gun to their head and said “Make a great MMO on a shoestring budget. Or else” right? They could have done what Mythic did and get their feet wet with basic multi-player games (Magestorm, ID4 online) and gain some reputation, skill and money before throwing all your eggs in one basket with a MMO of epic proportions." DAoC was not thier first game but it definately was thier first true MMORPG "Mythic took a chance that paid off in developing Dark Age of Camelot. They spent $2.5 million developing the game, a significant budgetary leap for the company considering this amount was more than double the sum used for all its previous games. DAOC was also the company's first massively multiplayer online role-playing game" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mythic_Entertainment#History Cheers |

While that article wasn't directed directly at any particular game, but there were several that influenced my peice. I like to play underdog titles by small companies which is why I really dislike when someone uses it as an excuse for dropping the ball. By the way, there is a review of Dark and Light currently in the works. |

Thanks for the replies so far. The article was specifically about small dev teams and although you can say that big companies can be just as bad, not as many people are ready to excuse it. While it seems that there are a few extremely recent examples of companies using their budget or manpower as an excuse, they are only using ammo we give them by accepting less than working products at a premium price tag. |
