Hmm, You could get a AMD Athlon 64 x2 4800+ I believe for around that price.

but the better choice I think for you would be is get a budget LGA775 Motherboard ($70) 1GB DDR2 ($25) and an Intel E2180 ($80) SO thats about $200 for a way better system. And you can Overclock that E2180 to 3.2Ghz easy on stock.

I dont think Yorkfield would be much an advantage at all over a kenstfield unless you didnt have to upgrade a motherboard in which case the 10% performance would be worth the little extra cash, but I think you would benefit greatly from a Nehalem. Wrap your mind around that. 4gigs of RAM, SLI 8800GTXs, new chipset mobo, AND now an Octo-Core 45nm CPU. My god thatd be the shit.

If he chooses to upgrade to Nehalem he will have to buy DDR3 ram, since the new chipsets for Nehalem will all be DDR3. Not to mention, it will probably be another year before we see an affordable Nehalem (maybe a bit less) because the Nehalem CPU coming out in late 2008 is going to be +$1000.

Just saying if he waits, he will be waiting for awhile. He should just try to overclock his current CPU for now.

Nehalems are not going to be crazy expensive (not all versions anyway)

Nehalem= Intels new CPU architecture native Dual, Quad, AND Octo Core CPU. Will be awesome.

lol I know what the codenames are, but I was just trying to say you could just say e.g. "Q6000's" or "Q9000's". So allot more people would know what your talking about . And I cant wait for the Octo-Core also , though it will have nearly the same issues in the future as the quad has now where most apps are only optimized to run a max for 4 cores...

Well the majority of the programs that are being optimized for quad-cores are actualy just going multi-core usuable. its usually about 8 cores they are going up to now. But even though only a few programs do this the main thing thisll help with, which is teh most important to me is multi-tasking. this octo-core will be a multi-beast!

and @killx

Nahalem isnt the $1000 chip, dont know what your thinking of, maybe extreme editions? Nahalem isnt out yet but its Intels new architecture, its going to be native Quad cores and native Octo-Cores. Itll be the same price as new chips when they are released. Probably Yorkfield prices right now.

And Jesus Christ! EVERYONE has a Q6600!

It is a very nice CPU though. High-end performance for a mid-end price.

Stop using CPU codenames...

The kentsfield and Yorkfield give roughly the same performance per hert, but the Yorkfield is slightly (like 2% faster). The thing though is the Yorkfield uses a lower multiplier so its higher strain on the FSB so youll need faster RAM and a better motherboard. But its on the 45nm rather than 65nm so less heat dissapation. they result in about the ame OCing, with the Yorkfield slightly ahead (about 10%). But the Yorkfield requires generally a newer motherboard that supports 45nm CPUs.

and yes I am running at a some what hight resolution, I got a benq G2400 monitor, so I'm running at 1920x1200. so the second card does make a diference

Upgrading to a new motherboard from what you have would be stupid. The Yorkfield CPUs are good but hell a Kentsfield offers equivalent performance (unless your OCing and have 1066mhz RAM, in which case you get like a 10% performance gain) So just get either a Q6600 or E8400. Those chips (especially OCd, but even if not) will keep up with SLI 8800GTXs. Now if your looking to go for Nahalem then looking for a new motherboard might be worth it, otherwise just go for a Q6600 or E8400

You are bottlenecking the crap out of your computer, either get a better CPU or overclock the one you got

The amount of electric it takes to run a computer is based on the parts its used. its not uniform throughout different computers. Its really the amount of wattage your PSU is using (not the watt-peak). So if you're using some power hungry things in your machine the wattage will go up in your PSU requiring more electric from the outlet. So having energy efficient parts will decrease the electricity used (and therefor bought).

My main machine is pretty energy efficient. The Q6600 is fairly efficient (for a quad-core) and although it is overclocked i have speedstep on so it is running at a cut down speed when it doenst need full power, increasing energy efficiency and the life-span of the chip. Also the 9600GTs are pretty good too with electricity.

Yeah I spent wayyyyyyyyy too much on them. I literally have EVERYTHING you could have for the Empire. I have the Imperial Tank, Sigmar himself, Lord w/e riding a griffin, prists, knights, god EVERYTHING. And i dont even play Empire anymore.

Anyway I do have a regret. i didnt spend as much time as a should painting all of them. I realized this a while ago and when I started my search for my Mordian iron guard and bought 2 10-men squads and a hellhound I spent a lot of time painting them and damn they look sweet. Every person looks like an officer. I painted them Red and Blue with gold trim. i actually painted every detail on them this time down to the trim on their gloves. I also painted this way on my Eldar.

I have:

5,000 point Cadian Imperial Guard Army (In the process of selling it actually)

1,000 point Mordian Iron guard (all metal and they stopped making them in like 1980 so expensive too, but this army is my pride and joy)

2,000 point Space Marine Black Templar Army (I personally dont really like space marines, usually let other people use this army)

500 point Eldar army (I just started this army, so its very small)

12,000 point Altdorf Empire Army for Warhammer fantasy (Jesus Christ I have so much for this army, and I hardly use them, anyone wanna buy? haha)

1,000 point Imperial Guard navy (for Battlefleet Gothic, fun fun fun game to play... a bitch to paint)

The PS3 can calculate a lot of small tasks at once, whereas a desktop calculates bigger tasks. If you ran Windows on a PS3 it would run absolutely horrible, they were built for different things (and if you ask me, the PS3 wasnt build good for gaming)
