If your willing to try a free to play game, Dream of Mirror Online (DOMO) is a fun, causal MMO.

Aeria games has a few more f2p offerings, but other then Domo, I have only played 12Sky (pvp heavy). Anyways, runs good on my sub 1GHz laptops.

I gage the community of a game in a couple of ways.

1. How active if the forum?

Domo's is very active. The players make great FAQs and guides. People don't put that much time and effort into a game they don't love. There are a few wise crackers, but good moderators keep the forums fun and helpful.

2. How active is the staff (GMs) in game?

I have seen, partied with, and chatted with all the GMs in Domo. It was all positive, they are fun, nice people.

3. How helpful are people in game?

This game is about relationships. You make friends due to fate lines connecting you to strangers. Some of my best domo friends came from fate lines. Having friends means having help for quests, questions, etc.

There is a team of Game Support (GS) players how hold multiple events every week. Races, duels, forum contests (art, snapshots, comics), hide and seek, and other events. New GSs are selected periodically and its a great way to have the community support itself.

There are often higher level players around that buff or give people items (I often help out new people).

Conclusion:

So the DOMO community is great, one of the best I have seen in a f2p game. And the game itself is great, or I wouldn't be playing.

I am currently playing Domo and its a great game. I think that people that played it and don't like it, didn't give it a chance.

At lower levels, its more about the story (there is a very detailed - abeit strange - story line). When I first played, my goal was to do all the quests for commoners and advance the story. Its not just about the grind your way to the end.

The ability to use sub-jobs is key to a successful and fun domo experience. Quiting at lvl 15, just when you can fly and explore is weak.

I have played most of the free 2 play (and some p2p) games out there. I don't play the 2d ones (like maple story). Right now, Domo is at the top of my list.

Give it a try.

My first beta game I played was IRose. It was really my first MMO and my friends and family eventually joined the mix. Rose Online eventually became p2p and after several nerfs (or updates) lost me.

I recently played Dream Of Mirror Online (Domo.areiagames.com) for Closed and then Open Beta. Its another Free 2 play game that uses an item mall to fund itself. Its a great game, cute anime cell shaded style graphics, the ability to combine jobs (main job, and sub jobs) for fun and unique skill combinations.

What I really like is that you character isn't tied to one class or job. If  that job was nerfed, you switch jobs. Your online friends, name, etc stays the same. Crafting (Alchemy as its called) is nice as anyone can do that, its part of the commoner skill set.

This game is a blast. I love the fact that you can try out all of the classes. Combing skills from multiple classes is great.

I feel that all the quests move you along for the first 20 levels nicely. It never seemed like a grind, I always had goals along the way.

I liked the graphics, I liked the flying, I liked the diversity of playing.

I can't wait for the open beta to start again!
