Terrible company that is completely out of touch with gamers ran by old school failing ideas.

"Can" you avoid PvP.  Absolutely.  Does avoiding PvP kill your game?  Again. Absolutely.

So you take the long safe way or the faster but more dangerous way...

Hello Risk Vs Reward. How are you?

Ah, come on now. Most people in Ultima Online didn't have that kinda crazy amounts of PK. How often did you really run into a PK? I got pk'd a few times while grinding different characters. You didn't have to slog through PvE content for days or months to get gear. You could EASILY compete in crafted gear or no gear at all.. I used to PK wearing a deer helmet and a kilt....

I think you are being overly dramatic in the amount of PK's you had to swim through- to open your bank box. There were tons of guilds that ran police forces that they would call Anti-PK guilds.

Don't get me wrong,  I don't condone destroying noob's without any gear - but at the same time there weren't pks camping all sides of every town of the game, stopping you from leveling. Sure, frustrating that you die on the game and you may or may not have been looted but I if you had won - you could have looted them.

Shrug, anyways - Hope you give games with open pvp tries in the future such as Darkfall if it ever releases of course but don't hold your breath.

Gear is great in a full looting game. Let some else grind for it, then PK them. Ah, the gold old days.

This is considered atleast by me an epic failure comment.   Games with Full Looting shouldn't require you to invest tons of hours PvEing only to have it stolen by some jackals waiting in the wind.  This sort of attitude is what turned me off to UO..infact its one of the reasons as an original UO player I'm glad it failed.  Full Looting games only encourages jackass behavior.

People want rewards for the hours and hours they dedicate to the game.  To me it doesn't need to be gear, it could be money or faction used to spend towards something.

CoX...seriously what do super hereos need gear for anyway?  I know people who enjoy it gear or not and its done well for itself I hardly consider CoX a failure at all.

btw I hate PvE WoW style raids period...I hate worthless grinds that add no depth to the game.   I want rewards and I want a challenge to get it..but I don't want to spend my entire natural life running a rat race hoping to get a glimpse of it.  Thats what WoW does you know..they make you run a lil rat maze for everything...it keeps people who dont know better happy and it keeps people who can't find anything else hoping it gets better so they keep paying.

You didn't have to wear your best gear outside of town or those guild meetings. Lord knows, I didn't wear my best to go PK'ing randomly. I mean that would only lead to getting my things looted when trapped by a mob of people.

Um, I also knew of someone that I read about that bought a new Xbox 360 from Wal Mart took his old one with ring of death into the new box... Took it back to wal mart for his money... Done... but I am not sure of legality of this and would assume it's illegal. :p

Sounds very much like a HD problem to me bro.

The latest firmware is 2.0.2258.0

Is that your firmware? I have heard that if it's not your firmware and it's a new system back from repair or refurbished in your case - that could be the problem.

Trust me Australia gamers get shafted enough through shady sales tactics and ISP's that try to break their bank. To PotBS for cutting them a break... Too bad the game isn't that great... but enjoy Australia!

Honestly, if you can get through the learning curve of EvE you would probably like it and they have a free trial going. I don't play it because I do not like the skill progression of the game. I prefer using skills to gain them or just gaining levels and spending points... I hate attaching exact real time amounts to learning a skill.

If you are okay with pulling it open and twiddling with the HD a bit - it could be as simple as a loose connection but I believe would nullify your warranty that you may have,

Chances are it's something simple if it's freezing.... Of course it could be a rubbish system...  My advice:

Send it in for repairs but talk to someone on the phone person to person about it first and get a customer ref number so you can call on it if you need to - buddy of mine did that and they sent him a new one and a refurbished one that they fixed for him.

DAOC before ToA had a good setup for RvR.

I remember running around with my druid on Guin on a regular 8 man team and dominating triple our numbers by using flanking and catching them off guard..

Gear doesn't mean the world but it can give you a slight edge and most modern gaming models are going to allow this to keep the proverbial carrot in front of your faces.

The games animations and movement remind me a little of Vanguard which is not good... Granted AoC does look better than Vanguard which I thought had a stale art style.

Pretty much sums it up. I mean if you do a random google search about that debacle I am pretty sure you could figure it out even without these forums but if not. I'll summarize it for you.

DnL sucks, no matter what type of gamer you are.

I think the disconnect is mostly due to the fact of a timeline for development that most believe has been exceeded by Darkfall's dev's. I mean I used to play Ultima Online and Everquest when I heard about Darkfall from pk-hq (Which had one of the first interviews up with their dev team) and after all that time the game is still a ghost.

I would love for a UO 2.0 darkside - Darkfall to come out but I feel it will suffer in the same way that Shadowbane did when it launched. It will be so dated that anything innovative done will be for naught because other games will have accidently incorporated it by then.

Darkfall may be good if they would open the game up to play. Instead it's like reading user blab'd content shoveled into a book with no end in sight.

Well, I obviously wouldn't take any donations or a link even for it until I had seen if people were even remotely interested. This isn't to get the idea off the ground at the moment but more of a way to test the community for ideas and to see if they would be willing to help front one. I wouldn't mind attempting this as I have some close friends that I could call on for a little labor of love to show a little something but honestly I think gamers are understanding just how difficult a t ask is for a game - doubly so for a MMO which is at the programming pinnacle of difficulty.

Anyways, just drop a vote one way or the other... This is just to see if it's feasible at all, or worth even taking a look at.

Oh, I think it's more than feasible. but given how hard it is to create the game I would come up with some guidlines. Visit a lawyer. Yes, there are lawyrs who will do work for free for the community.

I would then create the stipulations... skill based, blah blah blah, whatever. Some won't want another fantasy game and will want a sci-fi game.

I would then present this as a contest of sorts to small game developers. "A chance for community investment".

There of course would be rules so that the community doesn't wreck it (this will be the most interesting part I can tell ya )

I would then come up with a vote for people who wanted to invest as to the game they prefer.

Once you have a winner I would collect the investments.

This is an interesting experiment because of the rather vocal community that thinks the game industry has gone awry and that someone who undertands what "really" needs to be created should create it.

Well who better to back this then the people who want a different type of game.

Starting from scratch is too risky. I wonder how many ventures fail before anything can actually happen? Or they start diving into creating assets without a plan in place.

Find small companies that already have their act together but who need investment.

Interesting, maybe I'll go this route and let the vocal community put it's money where it's mouth is. I am sure that there would be a group of developers out there that would be willing to go through with this for capital to help them create their game and in turn give us the ability to have the game that we "want".

Interesting to think about eh, community?

I would like to put together a development team for the purpose of creating a new MMO. An MMO that would be built by the community, for the community so to speak. If I were to set up a paypal donation pot to fund this endeavor how many would be willing to chip in? If I get a good enough response I'll go through with it and begin campaigning for our cause on all of the major gaming sites.

I mean honestly, if we aren't willing to try ourselves and expect someone else to do it - Who is to blame for the poor products that come to market and the stagnation thereof?

Skill based games offer more customization. This is ALWAYS a good thing... Players want more control over their characters which is why the population dispersal of  SWG vet's really have no place to go....
