The games animations and movement remind me a little of Vanguard which is not good... Granted AoC does look better than Vanguard which I thought had a stale art style.

Pretty much sums it up. I mean if you do a random google search about that debacle I am pretty sure you could figure it out even without these forums but if not. I'll summarize it for you.

DnL sucks, no matter what type of gamer you are.

Guild wars is still fairly gear based imo.

I think the disconnect is mostly due to the fact of a timeline for development that most believe has been exceeded by Darkfall's dev's. I mean I used to play Ultima Online and Everquest when I heard about Darkfall from pk-hq (Which had one of the first interviews up with their dev team) and after all that time the game is still a ghost.

I would love for a UO 2.0 darkside - Darkfall to come out but I feel it will suffer in the same way that Shadowbane did when it launched. It will be so dated that anything innovative done will be for naught because other games will have accidently incorporated it by then.

Darkfall may be good if they would open the game up to play. Instead it's like reading user blab'd content shoveled into a book with no end in sight.

Well, I obviously wouldn't take any donations or a link even for it until I had seen if people were even remotely interested. This isn't to get the idea off the ground at the moment but more of a way to test the community for ideas and to see if they would be willing to help front one. I wouldn't mind attempting this as I have some close friends that I could call on for a little labor of love to show a little something but honestly I think gamers are understanding just how difficult a t ask is for a game - doubly so for a MMO which is at the programming pinnacle of difficulty.

Anyways, just drop a vote one way or the other... This is just to see if it's feasible at all, or worth even taking a look at.

Oh, I think it's more than feasible. but given how hard it is to create the game I would come up with some guidlines. Visit a lawyer. Yes, there are lawyrs who will do work for free for the community.

I would then create the stipulations... skill based, blah blah blah, whatever. Some won't want another fantasy game and will want a sci-fi game.

I would then present this as a contest of sorts to small game developers. "A chance for community investment".

There of course would be rules so that the community doesn't wreck it (this will be the most interesting part I can tell ya )

I would then come up with a vote for people who wanted to invest as to the game they prefer.

Once you have a winner I would collect the investments.

This is an interesting experiment because of the rather vocal community that thinks the game industry has gone awry and that someone who undertands what "really" needs to be created should create it.

Well who better to back this then the people who want a different type of game.

Starting from scratch is too risky. I wonder how many ventures fail before anything can actually happen? Or they start diving into creating assets without a plan in place.

Find small companies that already have their act together but who need investment.

Interesting, maybe I'll go this route and let the vocal community put it's money where it's mouth is. I am sure that there would be a group of developers out there that would be willing to go through with this for capital to help them create their game and in turn give us the ability to have the game that we "want".

Interesting to think about eh, community?

I would like to put together a development team for the purpose of creating a new MMO. An MMO that would be built by the community, for the community so to speak. If I were to set up a paypal donation pot to fund this endeavor how many would be willing to chip in? If I get a good enough response I'll go through with it and begin campaigning for our cause on all of the major gaming sites.

I mean honestly, if we aren't willing to try ourselves and expect someone else to do it - Who is to blame for the poor products that come to market and the stagnation thereof?

Skill based games offer more customization. This is ALWAYS a good thing... Players want more control over their characters which is why the population dispersal of  SWG vet's really have no place to go....

I like the look of the world and the graphics are looking nice... My only worry is that the feel and flow of movement is going to feel like EQ2 which felt fake like you were running in place and the world moved under you which is the opposite of how i felt while I played WoW which makes it feel as though you are actually running and moving on the world.

Yew pre-ordered to get to test this game for  5$ played to level 15 or so and I knew this was a chocolate coated turd.. The game doesn't have enough direction and ammo is very expensive.. So much so that I was literally spending all the money I could have been making by using the newest weapons that I could find.... It would be like making auto attacks in other games cost  money and forcing you to grind to level up.

Then the crafting system is a complete joke... yeah, this game is gonna end like AA or go F2P with ads to support it if they can.

Honestly, I never found warlocks that overpowered except the fact their dot's lasted after death and most of them were instant. Then again, I was a warrior with a nice paladin running with me most of the time which made my life less annoying.

Normally, I'd say WoW needs to add a good few more classes to keep people's interest... But recently like BC and into WOTLK - They have been failing so hard at balacing the game out that I think if they added the classes people want to see that balacing for them would become impossible.

I mean as of right now the balance in that game and constant catering to the arena madness going on with such easy access to "epics".. They are just keeping the cash cow going - they aren't adding anything innovate anymore and are making every class less and less unique and all in all doing a poor job of scaling some of the classes like shaman and letting others dominate the playing field.

Yep, I'd give this game another go if the evil side was fleshed out. Playing as a monster is like zoning into AV at level 20 naked and trying to find a player AFK to kill...

The monster control system needs completely reworked or an expansion added - adding evil players to the mix.

I received this game for Christmas. I'm in for at least 1 month. Some questions while it patches....

* How long do the campfires last? I've read 3 min. but is there a way to make them last longer? 3 min. is way too short for role playing.

 Unsure about this one.

* Is it possible to dismount a horse and walk away from it? Or does it just vanish when you dismount?

It is not possible to dismount off a horse and walk away from it.. Think DAOC before they added PC controlled horses.

* Compairing LOTRO social features to SWG. How does it stack up?

Adds a bit with the musical mini game. The social features are probably about equal everything given as SWG but with a lot less interdependance.

* Is Dread anything like Battle Fatigue from SWG?

Dread is like BF in the same that it takes down your maximum health but it auto regenerates as you slay more baddies around you or you get away from danger.

* Do items decay?

No, I do not believe so but to be fair, I haven't played this game since beta.

* Is crafted better than looted?

Nope. I busted my arse at the level cap to max out mining which I did. I then began blacksmithing and realized even making exceptional rares weren't good enough to compete with dropped items or quested ones. Given the horrible time sink to max out BS'ing I think it's a slap in the face to crafters.

I'm yet again on another vet trial.

...

Honestly, this is ridiculous!

Well from a PR point of view, this madness does have some merit.  Developers of SWG can honestly keep saying that they are telling the truth; that former veterans are coming back and the numbers of players are going up.

They just leave out the other details...

I'm not going to say don't use the Free Trial Accounts, to help shoot down the positive PR lines; 'cause using Free Accounts does cost the companies some expense; be it in dollars or resources.

I must be on SOE's blacklist, never received an invite.  Must have been from that protest of the Combat Revamp/Balance/Upgrade ordeal.

Maybe there is truth to the blacklist conspiracy, no invite for me either and I protested the CR/BU...  Not that I would play it for free now though.

Honestly, I would say you should play WoW... If you can get a group of friends it amplifies the experience a ton. Makes the entire game more fun especially 5 capn in AB or running premade WSG groups...

Short of that - give EVE a try and join a helpful corp right away to try and get rolling faster... The corp i joined in EVE gave me a merlin and decked it out for me to use... And has hangars full of skills to take.

Hey there folks,

I've beeing WoWing off and on for 3 years now, quit most recently back in September due to... well, life being too busy! After poking around other MMO's, I'm ready to come back, however, I want to start fresh somewhere and don't even really know where to begin.

So, anyone have any suggestions about the best server to re-roll on? I guess, this time around, I may even want to try a RP server, if that helps us narrow it down :)

I say you should play on Twisting Nether... It's a decent populated Rp-PVP server. If you are looking to join a lower level guild to help you get started with a guild bank full of greens you can use... Look up Ailuros on that server or anyone in Relentless Ascension.
