But I think that it ads a very strategic exciting element to any MMO. The tough part about stealther's is balancing them which im sure is not an easy task. There are pros and cons to anything, once you learn to play in an environment where stealth classes exist and understand how they work it is not a big deal.

The DAOC stealth system , where one can be 1 foot in front of you in broad daylight and totally invisible, is a little over the top but I definitely think some form of it should be included in MMO's.

The problem with people in general is that everyone wants everything to be fair all the time, no class should ever have the upper hand in any situation which is silly.

See the problem is tho when one class ALWAYS has an upper hand which is true with the implementation of moving invisibly in broad daylight in front of a hundred people in a barren low cut grass field and then jumping out killing a guy that was fighting and at 10% health and then restealthing while the entire batallion is looking dead at you with a vanish like ability... It's broken. plain and simple... now if you want to make stealth realistic where you have to be hidden by terrain and then use that as an advantage or a launching point where you sneak and have to stay completely out of my Field of View to get off your upper hand - then I'll agree to that.

Well for the sake of complete ignorance or making a bogus claim, i'll retract my statement but I can attest that the game was disasterous at launch and this is coming from a WW2 history buff and long time fps fan and mmo fan... lol

You can't justify a game's lack of content, poorly implemented content, and scattershot design as a challenge or a sandbox. If you could, Dark & Light is a huge success. That game certainly doesn't "hold any hands."

The issue is not the need for a quest to take you to every zone. The issue (well actually there are many) includes the fact that the designer has created a world but failed to breathe life into it, make it cohesive, or populate it with interesting content.

I'm not trying to justify Vanguard's lack of content, because it simply DOES NOT suffer from a lack of content. What I AM saying is that you have to spend some time to actually discover and enjoy that content.  If you dont find the vast array of quest lines and points of interest in Vanguard interesting, so be it. Enjoy whatever game you move to; but dont try to deny the existance of this content as a means of justifying your dislike. The world is full of things to do, just go out and look for them.

I agree with Amathe, Vanguard has a big ol empty world, it feels barren and lifeless and the quests dont really add any depth to it... Even the diplomacy quests which were a nice touch add so little impact that it feels like you work to get a result that when you get to the result - doesn't change a thing.

I have played both but I do admit to having only played WW2 online when it first came out and it was laggy, LONG time waiting or going to fights, and by long I mean seriously long like hours and hours....  but I played the game total for about 30ish hours.

However this is a totally different type of game then most so I was wondering if its worth it to give it a shot? Is there still a lot of interest in this game? Is it worth the $15 a month subscription? Is there still a good population to actually have fun?

From what I have been reading and hearing is the Alliance is in pretty bad shape at the moment, though I would of went Alliance anyway it just gives me that extra boost to want to play because I like being the underdog. Just because the Axis has control now of a lot of things doesnt mean its over, it just means they have more to worry about.

Anyway looking forward to some input.

Thanks!

I bought this game when it first came out - hated it despite playing horrible amounts of time on FPS'ers...  It's far in a way dated... Grab you a copy of BF2142, the same fill but with constant action.

What lost EVE to me was the horrible skill system... Don't get me wrong, I love skill systems and I think its the future of MMO's in the long run.. Eve's skill system is based around time instead of around use.. This makes it very much to linear to me.

Keep hoping for those updates, you will get all that spiffy content about the time Warhammer or AoC comes out of the gates and tears will run from SoE. Tears are delicious.

The rift between casual and hardcore doesn't have to exist... It's nearly completely negated by a simple switch from level based treadmill to a better skill system.

Oh, and playing  a 10k hitpoint warrior, who just stands there and swings his weapon over and over takes a lot of skill?

What an ignorant comment.

Yes playing a Warrior or any other class takes way more skill. But in regards to Warrior for any MMO I ahve played PvP:

1) Warrior are always out in the open. This means if they get jumped, they cant vanish. They have to stand there and fight to the death.

2) Warriors lack RANGE. This means they can get kite 24/7 in most any MMO- Rappelz, WoW (pre-Burning was last time I played to 60),  City of Heroes, etc. The list just goes on and on. They have to close the distance on their target which is hard when you dont have Stealth like a rogue. So, in most MMO, this is how Mage vs Warrior plays out:

- Mage sees Warrior

- MAge snares Warrior

- Mage nickels and dime to zero w/o the Mage even getting in a hit

This is how rogues vs mage plays out in most MMOs I've played with my rogues/stalkers:

- Rogue sees Mage. Mage does not see Rogue

- Rogue backstabs/assassin-strike Mage for over half his health. Rogue stuns mage.

- If mage is still alive and tries to get range and cast. Rogue kicks the crap outta the mage and makes the spell cancel

- If Rogue gets in trouble Vanish. But 95% of the time he wont, he'll just polish off the squishy

Rogues are #1 for PvP encounters in any game. How can they be so hard to play when- according to any PvP statistic they win their encounters by a long shot. In City of Heroes the Devs ran some analysis and they found rogues (stalkers) led the kill count by a huge, sick margin. They had no choice but to nerf vanish to where it only placates the target.

You obvoiusly haven't played Shadowbane. Rogues aren't  overpowered at all in that game.  Rogues are only as powerful as you make them. you are talking about balancing issues, which has nothing directly to do with stealth

Simple as this if PvP exists in a game and stealth exists in the same game..... That specific class or classes are going to be overpowered because they get to PICK when to Fight, period.

Kyle, DAOC had a really good release... It wasn't overly buggy or broken, I seem to remember the Mythic team getting praise for this even back then... I was there for EQ's start and it was nasty...

Or people might upgrade thier PC's to play AoC, at wich time they would then be able to play VG much better, and might give the game a shot then.

AoC may help VG just because at that time hardware will be cheaper and more people may have upgraded by then.

We're at that juncture in PC hardware, were people are going to HAVE to start upgrading in the coming months to keep up with some of the new games that come out, utilizing more advanced software.

I have a really monster computer SLI'd 8800GTX XFX VC - 4 gigs of ram... I spared no expense on my computer gaming hobby... It didn't save Vanguard in my eyes... I really just hated the art style, player models and animations for me - were horrible.... Uninteractive, never felt as though, I was hitting anything... No reactions for being hit, lame for a so called next gen game... I didn't have any problem with lag, but it still had worse graphics than cartoony WoW.

Yea theres a little nudity. Haven't you seen the videos with the Succubus that's not wearing a top?

But don't get me started on America's 'fear' of breasts. I'm a proud American myself, but really it gets to be to much. 'Oh noes, my 10 year old daughter saw Janet Jackson's nipple for a 1/10th of a second during half-time last year!' Oh hell, who really gives a shit. She's going to have her own in a few years.

America is perhaps the greatest country to live in IMHO. It's very secure (dispite the fear mongering of the current administration,) and is the richest and most powerful country in the history of the world. It's basically the modern day Rome, only it's been around for about 220 years, not 1000 years. And Rome wasn't impervious by any stretch of the imagination. I mean the Irish basically threw them out on their arses and told them to never come back again, and they didn't.

But this countries core religious right beliefs really tend to get on my nerves. Breasts, anything sexual, is 100% taboo here. I mean come on, boobs are the first thing you think of after being born.. 'damn I'm hungry, *suckle*.'

I've gotten off topic but basically I'm just trying to say that a few naked breasts in a game shouldn't make it Adult Only. Hell I think it shouldn't even be Mature only. Now if the game had full nudity, or sex, Adult Only for sure.

That brings me to another point. Here in America we go bonkers about teen sex. But barely 100 years ago.. BARELY, if you weren't getting married and starting to pump out kids by the age of 15.. you were growing up to slowly. Really quite amazing how society changes in as little as 100 years.

Preach it.... On a good note - Atheism is on the rise... in a big way.

The problem to me is that Vanguard in my eyes, doesn't deserve to live. It was half thrown together and the art style is horrible.

I am dead serious when I say that I would not play this game for free.

So you believe that no one should be able to play a game because you don't like it?

If It worked like that for me, then no one would have played Resident Evil or Tomb Raider.  Two games I couldn't stand.

Oops, you must not have read where I said "in my eyes"... I understand that I do not speak for the vast majority.... I'll let the falling subscriptions tell you more of the majority by shrinking VSOH market shares.... But nice of you to make a generalization on me based on a fact that didn't exist.

Ok, so "in your eyes" you believe that no one should be able to play a ame because you don't like it.

Your comment is: doesn't deserve to live; wich could only be made as an opinion.  An opinion is an "in my eyes" sort of thing.

Oh, well I suppose since reality is perception and in your reality you think I am trying to kill your holy game... In my eyes, if you want to worship a turd, I will let you as long as I dont have to smell it...

In my eyes, is in my perfect reality... Vanguard wouldn't exist because it lacks merit to do so. If I were in a place of power, I would discontinue to product or sell it off... Not so much different than SIGIL will be doing...

I used to miss the content updates through patches that rolled out at a decent rate... Now, WoW is stagnant even tho it just released an expansion - there is nothing new to do and players are realizing it and so are developers and they are trying to push out patches but they are coming along with them so slowly that the content patches resemble the MxO playerbase waiting for patches and content that never comes.

In short, I do not miss WoW... I offer it no ill wishes but they really do need to complete patches a bit faster...
