I got an invite to beta a couple days ago.It wasnt the fileplanet deal it just said youve been invited to join the closed beta blah blah blah.So am i still limited to the 13 level restriction or is that only for fileplanet users?

Also ive noticed since the open beta allot of people jumped off the bandwagon and now theres allot of nergative buzz going around about this game.A couple weeks ago people were praising this game.If you gus could would you mind posting your complaints and the reasons your upset with the game so i can take a look myself.

I was a bit surprised how well this ran on my system on medium settings,my systems getting old.It runs smooth on  medium except a maybe a little hitch here and there but overall looking good. For those interested heres my specs so maybe you can get an idea,it seems you dont need a monster system to run the game.

e6400 oc'd to 2.6

EVGA 7600gtko pcie

2gb ddr2 5300

windows XP

So far im having fun with the game granted im only level 9 so i havnt seen much but it seems fresh and somrthing new.I love the animations and combat its different.Hopefully the game does well for the gaming community i hate to see games do bad its bad for everyone.I will be playing the game byut then agaoin i allways buy ewvery MMo that comes out and atleast give it  shot =).

All open beta is confined to lvl 13. and for me the game ran great until i hit a server boundary or chunking area..then i would lag out for a while

My only complaints with the game:

I felt confined to my character, and confined to the rose combat keys, it didnt hook me, and got a little monotonous. Instances were also a little bit of a let down, but i relize i was in the noob area still...but thats all i can judge atm with being in the open beta

Alot of those people come from a F2P background from Asian Grinders who all offer or promote Open Beta - OB usually goes on for a few months then they automatically change the game to full, but nothing changes. They have no box sales and all have item malls. Funcom does beta slightly different to the norm. If they need stress on an older client in a particular area, then they need that.

This is why many people think OB is a trial - it is not a trial it is a testing period still.

again with the generalizations.......

having never played a f2p, or an asian grinder game (played EQ2, SWG, LOTRO, WoW, UO, EQ1 for a very short sting), and having been a part of MANY betas, this is the first time i have ever seen a non release client open beta tested.

Typically you see more of this stuff from people just wanting to preview the game rather than participate in the beta for its intended purpose.

aoc is 14 days from prerelease, 17 days from official release

Whats next ?

Jumpgate Evolution - hopefully ...although judging from recent years it will be another disapointment

i am in the same boat lobotomist. Aoc didnt really hook me in, WAR...while having a better chance with its gameplay, i fear wont drag me in either.  CSB and Aion arent my genre games either :(

I'll stick with lotro for this year with its expansion...and hope for 2009

show me one post where i didn't give the game respect.

I have stated and continue to state:

1) the graphics and sounds are awesome

2) story line is really good

3) immersiveness is lost on me....alot of instances in the 1-13 levels

4) gameplay didnt hook me, felt too confining based on my gameplay styles

No where did i bash, belittle, or mock the game itself. Granted yes i am having alot of chunking lag and micro freezeups which is the technical side of things...but the game itself i would rate a solid 7.

i got no problems with reviews. They are biased in nature. It's when you ask legitimate questions especially on the tech side, you get labeled as a hater right off the bat without the person even knowing your stance onthe game

Funny I had the opposite experience.

Me, my brother, and several of our guildies had a FP account and through we try it out.

We all loved it and put in our pre-oreders this morning.

I had a really rocky start with no spell effects, black screen and stuttering. Turned out it was all on my end. I simply wiped all my drivers, reinstalled all of them and I got amazing results. The game plays very fresh and is a nice change of pace from LOTRO and WOW.

Im looking forward to playing this game in live. I realize this is an old build with a debugger in the background (press ctrl-\) and its the tutorial island. I dont think Ill quit WoW at this point, but Im going to buy this and give it a try. Ill give a few month spin then see where I stand then, weather im just gona stick with WoW, or move over to AoC.

Careful, enthusiam for the game is not allowed on the boards here. Slightest sign of something good is often frowned upon. But your wise to give it a little time if your unsure.

Seriously though, if you didn't like the game then your in the Minority.

2>1 should be getting easier for people on the fence to make their mind up, if they still can't then just wait it out, no harm done.

I'll be there at launch enjoying it for what it is. Different, new, refreshing. My wifes whole kindship from LotrO will be there too, they are about ready to leave that game after book 13 dissapointments.

or if your on the fence with any sort of criticism watch out for the rabid fanbois....they will chew your head off. Your no different than the haters, just the polar opposite. And my whole kinship is currently LAUGHING at AOC...every keeps telling me "I told ya so...funcom hasn't learned their lesson"

Essentially you don't understand it because you don't respect anybodies opinion.  Thats what its really all about on mmorpgs forums.  If somebodies opinion is differant than yours then they must be a fanboi or a hater.

Really what do you expect somebody to say that can't get the game to run correctly?  I mean really.  If you bought any other product drill, car, widget and it was broken, defective, or not what you expected you can't really be objectionable about it.

when you buy a product (or pay $5 or whatever for it) you expect a working product or at least some tech side help. Both of which apparantly dont exist for me.

If you bought a car, and its engine would stall out every 30mins of driving....would you not bring it to get repaired? since you want to use analogous terms. And how are my technical problems related to anothers persons opinions? Technical problems are not objective, but subjective (or vice versa...cant think...must go to bed lol )

Well from your post you aren't the type of beta tester they are looking for anyway.  A beta test is meant for people to get a pre-release taste of the game.  They are meant to test the game and find issues.  You found an issue among thousands of issues the developers are probably dealing with at this point.   They probably have a list of issues and one of the items on this list probably says 'People with this configuration are having problems.'

Obviously you have done your part in the beta test.  You've identified an issue.

Now you are just being selfish.

To use your analogy.

I would expect a production vehicle to be flawless with little problems.   However,   If I was the guy testing the car post production I wouldn't be judging the quality of the product based on the fact that something didn't work right.   My job at that point is to identify problems with the car so they can be fixed.  Its not my job to just drive the car.

As a beta tester its your job to test the game not play the game.   Betas aren't a sneak peak and its completly retarded to base your opinion of the game based on  a beta.

I based my opinion of WoW based on the beta.  I thought it was the greatest MMO ever.  I played it for two months.  I think WoW is the crappiest MMO of all time.  Not because of quality issue but because the game itself is unenjoyable and mind numbing.

actually i AM the beta tester these companies should use. I actually use beta tests to submit reports (OMG no wai!).

I submitted about 12 last night, potbs i submitted i would have to say over 30, VG...hehe...my list of tickets was quite long.

I actually TEST the systems. The whole point of beta tests. I been in pretty much every beta since the late 90s..and even if i dont enjoy the game i still test it.

I am still testing conan because i had hopes, and since i am in beta i feel obligated to submit bug reports. Unlike all the other people who use it just for a game preview. Will i buy the game. Nope. After seeing the community here its not my place. Will i still play until launch submitting bug reports...you betcha

Fanbois vs Hater statements

1) Its ok to like a game after 13 levels, but its not ok to criticize it

2) its an open beta, then its a beta, then its a stress test

3) Some people love it, some hate it

4) some people (usually fanbois) have great performance, some have terrible (the haters)

5) There's a miracle patch/build, there isn't

6) the game opens up after level XX, the game is linear as crap

7) the game doesn't become fun till lvl xx, the game is the same after lvl xx

and you wonder why people like me, who are on the fence, think both sides can't construct a neutral statement if their life depended on it, while looking for a reason to buy it

I agree with all of what you said, except for these two:

2.) an open beta is a stress test, they always are stress tests. The open beta for AoC was intended as a stress test from the beginning, according to the various e-mails I have recieved from FC stating this (those e-mails being the same for anyone who tried the OB, which convinces me a lot of you are illiterate or just going with the crowd on your opinions.)

6.) and 7.) We cannot judge either of these things yet... even though we can believe it (which I do believe will end up), it is unfair to judge them from this, considering they have stated that the first 20 levels are meant to be linear. And none of us have gotten past this.

I'm aggravated that I can't find any real advice on the game, either. I wish someone could give a completely unbiased review over the game (other than people on these forums), but we're going to have to wait a little while before we get that I guess.

Thats my point...both sides are trying to defend something in which they have no real idea about...only the typica "I heard it from xx" statements

BOOOOOOO....

So you don't like the game. Fine, don't play it. TBH, I hope people like you will steer clear of AOC. You and others like you cause hate and discontent in games. Nothing is ever good enough for people like you. In fact the truth is, you live to tear down others. You see, many of us believe this is a great game that will pass many hours. Many of us are not having the problems you guys are. We are having a spectacular time!

point proven

ummm i have yet to see anything in the 1-13 level to tell me it ISNT instanced. The island itself is a single player instance, all the taverns/shops are instance. The nighttime is a single player instance, tortage itself is instanced when the load is high enough....so what's not instanced?

No, no, no, it is NOT instanced you damn hater. It is ZONED, there is a HUGE difference!

The difference is really lost to me as there is a loading screen for everything and at best it is the difference in size.

where did i post that i hated the game? other than technical bugs...i stated i liked aspects of it, but didnt like the gameplay so much. thats a hater? and your telling me the island itself, nighttime, and shops are not instanced...then buddy....you need to get a dictionary and look it up The sheer fact it is a single player night time, with a single player island instance, and tortage thats dependant on load and loads a seperate instance for higher traffic is the very definition of instanced

That was my weak try at sarcasm actually :) I agree with you, you just reminded me of a discussion a few weeks ago where anyone who dared say the world is instanced was sniped at. The proper term was zoned or somethign along those lines.

AoC has no free roaming world by design and is heavily instanced.

Hey, after all, it is intended for the console and the game design shows it.

my apologies, i been trying to tweak the client all after noon and evening so i could try to get rid of this friggen chunking lag, and i got bashed left and right by rabid fanbois. its 430am...a bit tired to sense sarcasm

honestly i give up.

I ask a question trying to resolve some technical questions or concerns...rabid fanbois attack me with a hater remark, and the same logic they use to counter negative threads are apparantly OK long as your blind to everything else.

Least they helped me make a decision NOT to buy this game at launch. Community itself, on these forums, official forums, along with the general chat in game proved this to me enough.

what about when your in the wild, and the chunking between zones keeps freezing you up whenever you keep crossing over it? i get a 10 second lag , and it sucks when i been agrod and the mob suddenly appears over you. any way to get around it...cause its severely sucking when i try to play.
