Even  though I don't care for this game, WoW is a benchmark for all MMO game developers to strive to.  I believe any successful mmo is benneficial to the mmo community, it increases funding for a relatively new genre of gaming.   In the long run, when developers see the money to be made in mmo's, we all can expect some really good projects to come out in the future.

Not much out there man.

For me, to pass the time until Conan comes out, city of heroes/villains is providing me with some interesting game play.  The pvp is fun in the Freedom server.

It's too little too late! I will never give them my hard earned money again! And that goes for the pipe dream of a pre-nge server.

Anyway enjoy your game, I had to vent, since I am a scorned/shafted Crafter.

I would recommend the "Freedom" or "Virtue" servers, as they are usually the busiest.

Normally I would agree with this topic, however, SWG was more than a game to, dare I say most people.  It is a virtual world.  A virtual world based on the best sci-fi theme of all time.  If it was just a game, then I wouldn't have developed friendships.  These friendships, despite of us all cancelling our accounts still correspond with one another.  For mmo's in general, I think they go beyond the "just a game" category.  An example of a "just a game", would be something like KOTOR, or Oblivion.

Thank God there isn't perma hasten.  Why do a few people have to be some sorta overpowered God-like player above all else???  I enjoy a game where it takes a team to efficiently run missions or successful tasks.  Having one almighty uberness etc etc type of character would ruin it for me.

Along with my offensive characters, I have a toon that is primarily a healer. I can solo missions with it, however slow, but it's possible.

The missions get a little redundant, but they are making an effort to fix it.

After taking a break from the game, I must say, I am pleasantly surprised with the work they have poored into it.  It sure beats the hell out of SWG... most do for that matter.

I have to give him credit. He is consistent, even if he is the minority. That is dedication.

One today was this:

Please do not post a link anymore to people that do not know all the problems the game has had.

We need more people to play and if they see that SOE called the NGE a mistake they may not want to stay.

We need all the people we can get right now.

Thanks.

Roughly 80% of the people who play SWG never read these boards.  We know this from our own internal metrics and it poses an interesting question.  Are we talking to people who play the game or posters who play the boards?

I don't mean to imply that the people who post here don't play the game.  Far from it.  There are thousands of well-constructed, thoughtful, and insightful posts from people who obviously know the game very well.  Just read a few lines of these gems and you'll realize that, first and foremost, these people care about the game.  Their focus is the game.  I think the lion's share of the profession feedback in the last couple publishes is a fantastic example of these players who post.

But, at the same time, these boards are constantly cluttered by the reverse.  Posters who play.  They use these forums to lash out at others, criticize wantonly, and generally feed their own egos.  They regularly attack devs and moderators, clinging to past wrongs and imagined slights.  They focus on themselves instead of the game.  To them, the boards are the real game.

As devs, we aren’t here to play the board game.  We’re here to play, and to make, SWG.

The upcoming chapters will see the remainder of the profession expertise systems implemented.  We have a lot of work to do and the feedback from players who post is going to be invaluable.  You aren’t going to like every decision we make and we understand that.  We have a limited resources and time to accomplish all that needs to be done.  But, as I’ve said before, we will be here (on the boards) and we will be listening.  If you’re up for a focused discussion of ideas, we welcome you and you can bet you’ll have our attention.

If, however, you feel the need to throw another stone, indulge a rant, whine, pick apart another poster, argue a dead point, rules lawyer, quote ancient history, or engage in any of the other classic board game moves, don’t expect us to pay attention.  We have better things to do.

We have some SWG to make.

Translation: Customer or not, agree with us or we will ignore you. We want to hear only from those who support us.

I wonder if this condemnation goes for Wepps & MsNil too?

AND...

Jesus this Guy is a moron, check out THIS statement...

It's interesting to watch the responses to this topic.  Just scanning the replies, it's pretty clear which people are players who post and which are the other kind.  The various accusations that my post is ‘flame bait’ are a good example of the distinction between the kinds of posts we care about and the kinds we ignore.  Why do some people think it’s inflammatory to say that we’re going to pay attention to productive posts and skip unproductive ones?

Because they’re posters who play.  They want the focus to be on their personal agendas, not on the improvement of the game.  They want to play the boards not SWG.  I’d like to challenge them to do otherwise.

We should all be players who post, people who rush home to play the game, only pausing briefly to add a comment or a piece of feedback to these boards.  Our fun should come from SWG.  And if it doesn’t, we should continue to work together to improve the game so that our fun, your fun comes from SWG.  From the game, not the boards.

Translation: We Judge you to be what we decide. Confront us, and you shall be Judged.

Any point he had has been lost in his arrogance...

Canceling the crafter revamp (which is half the game) is H U G E.  It is the beginning of the end of SWG and the NGE.  They are going to throw the last 3 combat profession expertise into the last publish the game will ever see unless classic servers come back.  That will play out over Christmas and the subs still fall.

That leads to the game closing down in 1Q 2007.

I feel that it is a positive step.  Furthermore, I wish that, so that a SWG 2 may possibly be developed.  Developed in a way that brings back the classic version married with some sort of new content and gameplay that has been discussed in previous discussions.   The crafting system's complexity wasn't difficult, but brought a dimension to the game that set it apart from others.  I would like to see that make a come back, but with more complexity.  Anyway, just my 2 cents from a SWG Vet from the very beginning, for whatever it's worth..
