Yeah man it was the BestBuy on freaking Cobb Parkway.  That's one of their busiest locations which is why I was so dumbfounded when I saw it.  I mean the thought of buying a CE didn't even enter my mind because I was so sure only SE's were left.

I've put in the codes in Account manager and sure enough it's a valid CE pre-order.

Terribly sorry, didn't even think to tell ya that (must have been my excitment).  He offered to buy me the standard edition and comp me 20 bucks cash right there.  (So basically buy what equaled to two CEs) Negating the fact that it was a pre-order and I had no assurances that he would/could actually buy me the SE in full (today), I just wasn't interested.  If I needed the extra cash I would have gone for it but why slap lady luck in the face like that.  She might not be so kind next go round.

I decide to go ahead and pre-order the game.  I jump in my car head to BestBuy and start my search for the SE pre-order box.  But what is this?!?!  Doth mine eyes deceive me!!!  Is that "one" CE Pre-order box sitting there lonely and forgotten?  Surely I'm seeing things, and it's simply a mirage.  I reach for it and...OMG... it's a tangible object!  The icing on the cake is that some 15 seconds later I hear some random guy shout "f*ck," and I turn to inspect only to see the guy looking at me.  He then tries to barter with me to trade an SE for a CE.

Not that grand of a tale I know, but I thought that literally all the CE's were gone especially this late in the season.  To get the last one at a BestBuy in the greater Atlanta area just seems so serendipitous.  See you all in WAR!!!

It's a shame really. As all the old zones were a masterpiece. And the current World PVP zones a complete waste.

Cheers

I think Blizzard still hasn't found a working dynamic for world PvP, so they don't really know how to revamp it.  Yes the previous attempts failed miserably but you have to applaud them for their persistence in trying to make it work.  It reads like they plan to implement more micro-processes into world pvp as opposed to cut and dry A yields B yields C tactics.  At least they are trying to find a format that works for world PvP as opposed to abandoning it all together.

I do agree about the old zones being masterpieces as those are the only zones I really know of.  (I quit just before TBC)  The world PvP around Black Rock Mountain escalated to a point that alliance/horde treaties had to be forged on the forums so either side could make progress towards defeating nefarion (sp?).  I also remember what it was like riding across the badlands dreading the idea of running into X,Y,Z member of the horde.  It really made for one helluva gaming experience.

Anyway, I believe Blizzard wouldn't hesitate to revamp world PvP zones if they could find a formula that maintained player interests.  I mean if the community can complain about classes and Blizz take the time to review/revamp each class surely they can do the same for a couple of pvp zones.  Actually thinking back, cries came up about alterac valley (sp?) battlegrounds and sweeping changes were made to it.

From my own experience a game typically gives out a free trial with one of three distinct marketing circumstances.

1.)  The game is a smashing success and the hype associated with such a game has slowly subsided.  I think we can safely X this one off in relation to Conan.

2.)  The game has been going for a while as has peaked, causing a steady pilgrimage away from the game.  The free trial will then be used as a tool to draw back old players while simultaneously attracting new ones.  Again, I feel we can X AoC out here too.

3.)  The game has settled at its niche point; meaning, everyone who is gonna stay is staying and all those who would/wanted to leave have done so.  The hype surrounding the game would no longer exist at this point and a free trial would more or less be a shot in the dark in hopes of snagging the random, completely bored, jaded mmo player.  Now, usually this happens at the end of a game's golden era - like 2-4 years or so.  Oddly enough if AoC was to give a free trial I feel it would already be at stage three, and that's just from reading reviews across the net.

So while I haven't actually told you if there is or isn't a free trial - I feel I've given you a bit of food for thought as to why or why not, that may be.

I actually felt bad for poor Erling.  To me Erling was like one of those actors that knows a movie is really bad, but still has to act in it.  Even when they fully realize how bad the movie is, they are under contract and simply must finish.  Watch pretty much any movie by Casper Van Dien if you wish to bare witness to what I'm talking about, but I digress.  I found myself crying for Erling.  He just seemed like a victim in that interview.  I mean a stuttering supervisor, has to now elaborate on why his/her product is so god aweful.

A pity filled pat on the back to Erling and kudos to the mmporg interviewer for actually asking questions of substance.

At this present moment in time you cant play a black person in WAR, that`s not to say it wont happen in the future.
Now to your comment about medievil europe? are you educated or did`nt you learn anything in your history class? Half of europe was ruled by black moors until the 1500s their have been black people in Europe since the Roman times so perhaps you need to go search some history books or perhaps ask your history teacher why they never mentioned it to you in the first place?
I could teach you myself but i have not the time or will to teach you something that you history teacher should of told you.

Are you educated? Unless you consider Europe being just the Iberian Peninsula and France, the moors never controlled half of Europe. Not to mention the Moors aren't what we consider black today, they were Arabian and Berber, whose skin tones aren't much different than the Italians or Greeks.

Go Charlemagne.

Anyways, I'm not sure if you can be 'black' in WAR -but- there's alot of customization options so I wouldn't say it's out of the question.

Though, they seem to want to stick to the lore as well...you might be able to be a black Warrior Priest but you're gonna be a bald black Warrior Priest (just an example).

A black warrior priest was actually what I was hoping to roll come launch.

What the hell is your problem? He didn't say a damn thing wrong and you come out insulting him? I suppose your lack of WAR knowledge means you don't know there are orcs, which happen to be GREEN? And with your attitude you think you deserve any kind of answer? Grow the fuck up. Oh, and reported for personal attacks against TheSheikh. Feel free to edit, as the system keeps the original handy.

I second that, greenskin is not and insult its a race in the game your so nicely asking questions about. Why do you need to throw out personal attacks when all people are trying to do is answer your rediculous question?

What about my question is ridiculous?  I'm actually dumbfounded by this statement.  I ask about an aesthetically themed option as it relates to character creation and it's ridiculous?  I didn't demand the option be put in mind you, I simply asked if it were in or if the possibility existed that it may be in, in the future.  So exactly what was so ridiculous about the question again?

Well the game is under NDA, so your question is ridiculous and pointless as well as any of your posts in this thread.

So I should assume that the game has not been demo'ed in any way.  No one has had a chance to play it and give detailed interviews on it within the bounds of the NDA.  I mean there hasn't been an article specifically written pertaining ONLY to the topic of character creation.  Apparently NDA just means that nothing is ever written or recorded about the game until launch so any question about the game is ridiculous until that point in time.  So maybe if I shared in such short sidedness in relation to the circulation of hype/ information about a game I too would deem the question ridiculous and any related posts that'd follow.

So now the question is pointless too?  I thought the point of a question that required a yes or no answer would become undeniably transparent, but I guess I hoped for too much.  If you missed it, the point of the question was to see if you could be black in WAR, to which I have been told is not possible.

If you can't tell from his statement OR the replies to his post what was intended by his comment then you are either naive enough not to warrant a response or simply playing at that very same naivety.  *EDIT* below I'll provide the statement and responses I speak of.  If you still don't understand it then we'll just have to assume we've had different life experiences and pick up on things differently.

What attitude?  I replied to each and every post with as much respect as was tendered originally.

Why would I edit?  I, unlike most people, stand by what I type.  If you so desire I'll go show it to a mod myself.

4...

The same question you pose initially can be used in my defense.  If it doesn't matter, then it's not that big of a deal to make possible that which I'm inquiring about.  And it doesn't necessarily matter; however, it's a nice OPTION to have.  It's a fantasy based game true, but maybe one can immerse him/herself more deeply in a game when a very insignificant feature is made possible.

As to the second point, let's assume that the OP (me) doesn't know every single piece of lore regarding WAR.  Should I go now and read every piece of printed literature pertaining to WAR, as well as buy every single game ever made in an attempt to see if there were black people anywhere throughout the whole of WAR history, OR could I plainly ask a very simple question on a forum directly associated with the game?  One of the three previously mentioned choices just seems to require so much less commitment.

Actually if the options of past games hold true, you can.  The usual tendency is to make possible a lot of caucasian shades which tend to include a color which you or I would certify as yellow or fair skinned.  To your second question, I would answer it by posing another question.  Were there fat asses in WAR lore?  If the Gods of future WAR lore are any indication then maybe you can be.

Don't know if this falls under the NDA.  I'd just like to know if it's possible to set skin tone in WAR when playing "The order," to a level that one would discern the character as being black.

*EDIT*

I was initially hesitant to even make the post and all the smart remarks and sly attempts at stereotypical humor show that perhaps I was right to give pause.  Not everyone knows WAR lore from A-Z.  When I asked the question, I was thinking only of "The Librarian," from War 20k: Dawn of War.  He's was black and a member of the The Empire *gasp*.  I just figured that maybe if it were possible for someone to be black and Empire in the future then there was a chance that such a thing was possible in the past.  This too assumes that one set of lore is merely an extension of the other.

This is why I hate the term flip-flopper.  In a world with so much gray, we demand black and white clarification.  What most people call flip-flopping, I term good intellectual prowess.

Now I see the point the nay-sayers are trying to make, and I mean they have a point I suppose.  Humorously enough, the thought that kept looping through my head was, "couldn't they just cut down the gamma?"  Not being serious just my sad attempt at humor.  As unrealistic as that suggestion is in fixing things...I just can't stop it from playing back through my mind.

So if someone was about to stab you with an ice pick, but six months before they did they warned you, wouldn't you still be a little pissed off?

Lets say little old ViciousEXE here wants to be an empire tank character. I'm not into greenskins or whatever the heck the white lion thing is or Dwarfs and I know everybody and their brother is gonna be chaos. So what am I to do? I can't wear my damn heavy armor and swing my virtual broadsword around now can I?

Doesn't it stand to reason that in this day and age in an mmo every race can have a tank class that wears heavy armor? I mean if anything don't give one to the orcs or the dark elves, races that have a combat doctrine that lends itself less to heavy armor, but Empire! Cmon! Where talking big mean german inspired knights here!

People who are sad about the changes to the game are not crying or b@tching, we are the ones who wanted to play this game and are mortified that this happened. If I just hated this game and never wanted to play it, would I be here, braving the innards of the cesspool of the internet, the mmorpg.com boards?

To the first point.  They have not screwed up a large part of their game.  They've done just the opposite and chosen not to release what you would term to be "the screwed up part," of their game.  Things are not "all good in the hood;" however, the point most are trying to make is that Mythic is one of the few companies that would actually come forward and state outright that they feel the product is incomplete as opposed to releasing it anyway and painting some grand picture like other MMO's have done. (AoC, Vanguard, etc)

The fact that you can now take the time and decide (with this new information) whether or not you want to purchase the game should be reason enough to thank Mythic.  They had to realize they would lose customers over this but apparently the integrity of their product and the concern for their customers outweighed the EA lash.

To the second point.  No, I wouldn't be pissed.  If someone tells me 6 months in advance that they plan to do any bodily harm to me and I'm dumb enough not to prepare (i.e. starte toting a bit of steel that slings hot firah) then I deserve it - pissed or no.  Summary: epic fail of an analogy.

Missed the mark on the rest or your post and have no real response.

OMG - *re-reads article*

OMG guys, WTF!!!  Do I see actual honesty and realistic goals being used in relation to an upcoming launch?!!?!  I can't believe this.  A company just came out and told me the truth.  I'm actually still in shock from reading it.  I mean the very thought of being told the truth has me just...just...stunned.

This actually makes me want to buy the game more.  Is that odd?  I mean here we have a company that has pushed and pushed back the launch date for the sake of what I thought to be quality.  And then just when I think the extensions are superficial and not truly needed (i.e. to polish off insignificant CE extras), they drop this bombshell of an interview and actually admit that some major concepts of the game simply aren't finished.  KUDOS to you Mythic...KUDOS indeed!

To those of you who are unhappy with the announcement I simply pose the question - what would you do?  You have a product with potential.  You know how important launch is.  Do you do like every other game we b*tch and moan about, and go ahead with the launch revealing piss poor, half @ssed, unfinished main line concepts OR do you admit that reality beat fantasy with a stick; as it relates to game production, and it won't be ready?

I see the problem with doing this from reading some of the responses.  Mythic really is damned if the do or damned if they don't.  If they go ahead with the release of poorly polished cities and "not great" classes then the masses will complain.  If they withhold the classes and cities in an attempt to polish them, then the masses complain about that.  Just seems like a giant Mexican stand-off and Mythic is the only gun-slinger without a gun.

The ONLY question I'd have, would be if there is a time line AFTER launch for these cut back features/classes/cities to be implemented.  If they slap that "indefinite" amount of time tag on the previously mentioned components THEN I could see myself getting angry, but for now I'm quite satisfied with the move.  Again, KUDOS MYTHIC!
