Pretty close to what I would say, too.

WAR may turn into a treadmill of sorts, but WoW is already there.  It's been there.

WoW needs 'more' to keep me interested.  I haven't seen anything major in a long time.

Again, it's also true that I doubt that any female character in game is really played by an IRL female.

I treat everyone as an equal in MMO's.  Some people give preferential treatment to fem toons, not me.  I imagine that all fem toons are played by 30-40 year old, pale, fat, balding, and reclusive men that play from the darkest of corners in their mothers basement.

There was player that was in my guild in WoW, they only played fem characters.  They always spoke as if they were fem.... emotes and all of that (bouncy... yah!... always excited... always saying 'honey' and stuff to people').  Then, one night this player attended a raid for the first time.  Of course they logged into vent.  We're all getting ready for the raid... and someone says 'Can I get fort?' in a pretty deep voice.  And, nobody knew who said it.  We had to ask.. and I don't think we'd ever laughed that hard at anything else in the game before or since that.

...

I still wish that Witch Elf male was offered as a playable option.

I think of my MMORPG characters as 'clothing' or a 'costume', so to speak.  I am stepping into that 'role' when I am logged in and playing the game.

That being said:

I don't want to RP as a woman.

I don't want other male players to try to inerract with me as if I were female.

Would I really want to spend all that time raiding and levelling just to get new high heels, a skirt, and a bikini top?

I've heard the 'if I'm playing all the time and having to look at my character, i'd rather look at a female' type of phrase a lot.  So, IRL, you have to shower (man washing man parts) and get ready in a mirror (man checking out a man), does that mean you end up getting an operation so that you can check out a woman when you shower and have to look in the mirror?

I got a chance to play the weekend preview of WAR and so far I am very very impressed with this game. I thought for sure this game was gonna suck, but I was wrong. This game is still in BETA and everything ran smoothly, not even a hint of lag, for me anyways and it was fun, the graphics aren't 1/2 bad, pretty much like WOW graphics, but maybe a notch or 2 better.

The combat system pretty much mirrors that of WOW and the PVP definately outdoes WOW in many aspects, but mainly for me it was about the balance in PVP and there was definately balance and it was fun.

I payed close attention to chat and what others were saying and I can't even remember seeing 1 bad comment about this game.

the game is unfinshed, terrible mob pathing, awkward combat, at least 6 months away from being in good shape

Non-fanboi reponse:

Issues with mob pathing/behavior = true.  The dev team admitted it and they are fixing it.  I saw it first hand.  It may depend on the mobs you were fighting or even how you attacked them (ranged vs melee).

Not sure about 'awkward combat'.  I mean, it's different from WoW.  So, is different = awkward?  As I've stated elsewhere, the thing I didn't get in WAR combat is a sense of being really 'in' the combat... so to speak.  I mean, maybe there were a lot of things still turned off within the game like animations, gore, and such that would've made combat more violent, brutal, or 'WAR'ish'?  I believe the dev's did state that there were a lot of animations they were about to roll into the next patch and they were fixing a CD timer.

Is the game unfinished?  Maybe.  It's also not officially released either.  Open BETA hasn't started.  I know it's a tight window from start of Open BETA to launch, but the game isn't officially launched.  I would be more likely to say that the game isn't as polished as I had hoped it would be during the preview weekend more than anything else.

I did the same thing, more or less.  I read what other people wrote and still went ahead and bought AoC to test it.

I think that having endured the hype prior to launch ended up making want to try this game, even amongst all of the hate-threads and posts.  I just kept asking myself... 'can it really be that bad after all of that WAR/WoW vs AoC smack talk and hype?'

I experienced what most others had written about.  I didn't see many bugs or performance issues, but I saw other things in the game that I just didn't care for.  While I found some positives in the game, the end result was that I cancelled/quit.

As virtually everyone is saying, in 9 months or so... this game may be playable.  I mean, I keep hearing about how Vanguard is turning that corner and becoming a playable game.  Perhaps there is hope for AoC and light at the end of the tunnel?

I don't mind a challenge in MMO's.  I also don't mind having to 'work' for in-game goals.  But if you are forced to perform actions that you find simple or with little requirement of skill to level or advance, then I think it really lessens the 'sense of accomplishment' at the end by totally ruining the journey along the way.

I think it is time that games offer you the ability to log in and just start doing the things in the game-world that you want to do, that you find fun.  And, by doing those things and spending time doing those things, you develop skills that are customized to your play style.

I wish 'Witch Elf' could be male or female.  That's a big issue I have at the moment.  I refuse to play a female character in any game.  From what I've seen, the Witch Elf seems pretty great, but I'm not going to cave.  I really wish Black Guard was still available, but since it's not... I don't see much in the way of Dark Elf that draws me to that race anymore.

On the other side of that factional coin...

I enjoyed playing Shadow Warrior quite a bit.  I must say that Witch Hunter was also pretty fun as well.  I found a lot of survivability in Shadow Warrior though, and that's what I spent 90% of my time playing in the preview weekend.  (for the record, no, I didn't name him Legolassss or any variation of the sort.)  A lot of people feel as though Shadow Warrior is a squishy, I just didn't really find that to be true at all.  I know that vs some classes, they weren't quite as well matched... but that's the paper/rock/scissors mechanics of any MMORPG at play.

Noted:  with NPC pathing and behavior somewhat 'broken', Shadow Warrior did have an advantage and that may change the way I feel about the class in PVE play once NPC/PVE mob behavior is fixed.  I could essentially hit any mob and they would run the other way at first.  This gave me time to unload some dmg on them, then mezz them/root them, then ping away, usually finishing them off just as they hit my melee range.  Also, I could pull very well with Shadow Warrior and didn't find myself having to get into aggro range of other mobs just to pull/kill the things I needed to kill.  There were also times when I needed to kill bolt-throwers or seige-esque weapons and I could do that from a pretty safe range without being aggro'd by mobs.  (that may be due to bugged aggro?  i dunno)

In PvP/RvR battles as a Shadow Warrior, I could stay on the outskirts of the battle and plunk away at targets from long range.  If someone looked like they were about to break away from the group (enemy clump of targets) then I could start in with dmg on them and soften them up before they got into their dmg dealing range.

I tried playing another ranged DPS class, but I just didn't care much for them.  I think Magus was the closest I came to actually liking any of those 'caster' type classes.  I have yet to hit cap level in any MMORPG playing a cloth/caster class.  I guess it's just not my cup-o-tea.

I typically play a class that has at least some ability to heal and find good survivability that way.  In WoW I played a Shaman (elemental) and a Druid (feral)... both classes can obviously heal themselves in a pinch (or someone else if I'm feeling generous).  In SWG I played Jedi with a MLS/MDef template with some Healing (limited as it was, it was enough to keep me from ever dying at the hands of a BH) and my BH was MBH with CM.   I found that those classes were very 'solo' friendly in times when I just couldn't find a group to do the things I wanted to do in game.  I think that Shadow Warrior, even sans the heal, is that type of class in WAR for me.... at least from what I've seen and played so far.

It will be interesting to see how WAR is polished prior to launch.  There are a number of things that need to change so that WAR doesn't seem so 'foreign' or 'makeshift' as opposed to 'polished' and 'finished'.  If those things are taken care of, then WAR will be 'successful'.  Though, i'm not sure how we are really defining 'success'.

WoW set the bar.  WoW is the title holder.

There are races in other games that are a lot uglier.

I am just disappointed that they chose to go with the FPS style controls.  That's the big issue for me with this game.  I didn't really like it in SWG: NGE and I wasn't a fan of the style in Hellgate: London.

For me, I'd be less concerned with appearance and more worried about combat and all of that.

It must be hard to 'keep the faith' as a Darkfall fan.  You aren't given a lot of backing from those that you put so much blind faith into.  Quite often, you are left out to dry.

There is no denying that Darkfall has missed a lot of their target marks or delivery dates.  I see excuse after excuse made for the dev's by people that are almost choosing to hope for the sake of hope itself.

People believed in other games and 1000% SOLD OUT to them, like AoC and WAR.  Then again, those games had 1000% more media and available information for fans.  Even still, AoC turned out to be less than satisfactory and WAR's preview weekend had mixed reviews.

So, with the very limited amount of information that flows about Darkfall... how do Darkfall fans keep the faith?

The simplest definition of RvR is this:

You and your allies (faction/realm) fight against a common enemy.

In terms of Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning, this means that players of Order are locked in a never-ending war with the players of Destruction. High Elf, Empire, and Dwarfen players battle hordes of Greenskins, Chaos, and Dark Elfs.

The overall motivation to compete is centered around the many, not the few, and PvE and PvP are given greater meaning than in most traditional MMORPGs. A player may have individual, selfish motivations, but they will still end up contributing towards their realm’s overall success.

In Warhammer Online, you are literally fighting an opposing realm for zone control. Everything you do in PvE, including individual quests, public quests, dungeon raiding, and even NPC-grinding count towards this control. For this reason, you could hate the idea of PvP and never even participate, but you will still help out your realm in the “end game.” On the other hand, every enemy you kill in skirmishes and scenarios and all battlefield objectives you own will also contribute to your realm’s control. For this reason, you could hate PvE, participating as minimally as possible, and still contribute to your realm’s overall achievements.

about slow combat/one shot kills:

There were some one shot kills in WAR over the weekend.  I was in a few scenarios and saw party members turned to vapor in the blink of an eye.  They even commented in scenario party chat about it and were fairly frustrated.  I mean, one second they see their opponent and then 1 incoming-special later (from their opponent) they are toast.   They didn't understand how/why it was happening, but it happened... and more than once.  I don't know the particulars or variables, however.

Wow fans are WoW fans.  Let them be.  Everyone has their own set of preferences in MMO's/games.

WoW served it's purpose for me and killed many hours of my life, filling them with fun at the time.  Which it was supposed to.

Whether WAR is revolutionary or not, it's not WoW.  I'm pretty bored with WoW.  There's not much left to do in the game other than grind rep or honor.

I need an MMO or game to play that isn't WoW.  WAR will be that game for a few months at least.

However, I hope WAR launches with 'more' than what it is now.  Whatever 'more' equates to, that's the question.

WAR wasn't what I thought it was going to be.  While not necessarily a bad, I thought WAR was going to be this hate, war, violent, kill, damage, pound it, slice it, stab it, whatever it til it's dead, in your face kinda game.  I never got that feeling while playing.

I got a mix between LotRO and a bit of other games. I'm talking from a look/feel of the game perspective.

I didn't feel like I was playing WoW at all.  Sorry, a dwarf, elf, human, orc dont' = WoW to me, probably because I'm in my 30's and I know better.

The scenario's were 'okay'.  Nothing that I'd call earth-shattering.  And really, that's okay to me.  I'd rather there not be instanced PvP at all, honestly.  If it were all RvR (open-world pvp), then that'd be fine to me.

Maybe in the full-release of the game there will be more accurate sound effects, blood/gore effects, etc.,... But there needs to be something to immerse you into combat.  I'm not talking the big open field battles, I'm talking the 1 v 1 battles where you might be fighting a MOB/NPC of some type (or another player, either way)... the combat just didn't feel. uh.... well, it had no feeling or sensation of excitement, to me.  I know, it's a video game... but there wasn't anything that really let me know that 'damn, I just layed a lot of DMG on that guy!!!!!' other than a health bar tick.

There were dots and other effects, but nothing that showed me what I was expecting... the sensation of WAR.

Time logged in doesn't equal hardcore or casual.

You can be 'hard core' with less time or 'casual' with more time.

It all depends on how you use your time in game.

...

Other ways I think of hardcore gamers:

Hardcore to me = subject matter expert.  These are the guys that either know the answers or know exactly where to get them.  They are someone who knows the game and is highly versed in the mechanics and inner-most workings.   They may have spent time in game to learn this stuff or reading, but bottom-line... they know it.

Hardcore to me = trend setters.  The people that create the FOTM's for everyone else.

Harcore to me = power levellers.  They have the game figured out.  They don't waste time in game when they are logged in.  They get in and get stuff done.

Hardcore to me = multi-boxers.  They are tired of waiting on others and want to maximize their playing time.  They have done the math, worked out the bugs, put in the tech work, and they are a multi-tasking, highly efficient gamer.  They don't wait for a group, they are the group.

Hardcore to me = being able to do more with less.  Somebody who can take a class or item that is supposedly 'underwhelming' and hold their own or actually dominate.

Anybody can log in and stay logged in for hours a day.  Are you sitting in BG queues?  Are you chatting?  What are you doing?  Hell, I can do stuff around my house while I am logged in with WoW.   Just because I've been 'running BG's all day' doesn't mean I've actually been playing non-stop.  With 30 minute queue's and 15-20 minute games, that 6 hour gaming day actually equals less than half of that in real 'hardcore' or true play time.

The term casual means that something is not their primary focus or that it isn't being done formally or professionally.  I think most of the folks here have stated that they are at a point in their lives where family or careers are coming first and gaming is a 'if/when I can' type of thing for them.

Power gamers NEED casual gamers.  Why?  Because they pay for the game to keep running.  And, not only do they do that, while they are in game... they are trying to maximize their time.  So, hopefully, you have a similar mindset if/when you run into one another 'ingame'.

Casual gamers NEED hardcore gamers.  Why?  Because it's the hardcore that get things figured out so you don't have to spend your time doing that.  They are the ones who blaze trails in games.  It's their work that ends up in guides or maps and such.

Easiest solution... I doubt you built this system.

So, what is the make/model of the computer?

Who made it?  HP, Dell, who?

What model name and number is it?  Depending on the manufacturer, sometimes model number is enough to get most of the important info for a question like this.

Do you have a serial number?  Most sites have a place to enter your S/N or Service Tag number and get detailed system spec/original config information.

Obviously chipset and motherboard make/model would help, but if it's a pre-fab machine... the other info works just as well.

About Hoth... finally.

I think players have been asking for Hoth since... well, it's been years.

I hope it works out for those that still play.
