man i think I just found my alter ego ive run the gambit myself. every couple of months I cancel an account and activate a new one. I wont go through my history because its pretty much a clone of yours. what I will say is that Im also a Lineage 2 fan. I played that game during the KOR open, and prelude up to C2. I just reactivated it a few weeks ago and im completely impressed by the improvements. now, this isnt an L2 fanboi rant. I also play Eve. I played Eve back when it was called Medusa which was one of the first phases of closed beta. I cancelled it shortly after release and went back last year. to date, Lineage 2 and Eve are my longest game experiences. I thought about the reasons why, and my conclusion in what they both had in common where this. (in order) 1. Risk vs. Reward. -both games share high risk and are very rewarding. 2. No end game. -both games are nearly impossible to max level, and when you come close such as in lineage..they release FREE expansions/content etc. Both games release free content which expands the game greatly. Lineage 2 does have a feeling of a cap more then Eve which has no cap, but lineage still expands its world regularly adding a lot of high end stuff. 3. Achieving top tier means something. In both Eve and Lineage 2, being top of the game doesnt go unrecognized. 4. Open PvP. and in both games, it is done very well. 5. Graphics. both games have incredible graphics so, thats my top 5 comparisons to both games and why I've played them and enjoyed them as much as I have. Im not saying theyre both excluded from the "Quest, Mission, Task" mechanics, but what those games offer aside from that makes you feel like you're accomplishing something. I think the biggest reason is neither have any end game |

ya its extremely hard to gimp yourself in this game I always focus on my skills however. I dont blow them on things I wont use such as..my orc raider never spent any sp on fist weapons I will say that if you're ever in need of SP the best way to do this is to delevel yourself. Ive done this numerous times on my toons to get SP. you end up retaining all the skills you learned but your level is much lower. so, for instance just recently I deleveld a lvl 18 dark elf fighter to a lvl 11. I retained all the skills I achieved at level 15 but was lvl 11, made it much easier to blast through mobs and farm SP. now that this toon just hit lvl 20 I almost maxed out in all of my skills at that lvl due to farming them. i know it sounds tedious but its a very good strategy for maxing your character and is totally legit. its almost like re-rolling but being twinked :) ps. Im on lionna also..recently restarted and parked my high lvl toons. Look for Zoth or Daemov. Zoth is a 24 orc raider and Daemov is just starting out. im not clanned atm |

im still deciding, but so far Ive enjoyed my Orc Raider the best. I tried a DE mystic but around lvl 15 I started getting major mana downtime which made me delete him. Ive also played Palus Knights which are pretty cool, they didnt pack enough punch for me though I also like the Orc Mystics battlemage style. I guess Im a fan of the orcs |

1. Most content is not really player created. The only player created is mining, escrow and PvP. 2. The economy is not truely palyer driven. Although more than most games it is not what people claim it is. You can make enough cash for anythign you want entirely off of NPC missions, killing rats, or by afk hauling items from station to station. In reality the only thing that keeps the economy in check is the loss of ships on a rather regular basis. This just keeps constant demand, which keeps a constant supply. Inflation happens still just slower. 3. EvE may have over 100k characters, but many people multibox. Actually it is almost standard simply because of mining and such in order to make ships to PVP. I can't find a current max population at once number, but it used to hover around 12k last I rememeber. Larger than realms in other games, but nets not be disillusioned. 4. EvE is political, completely agree here, and best aspect of the game. BTW EvE's standard accoutn length is about 7 months, its turn over is similar too its loss though. EvE will be a long lasting sustainable game, but it is not growing (or shrinking) dramatically. I stopped reading your points and your post when you said "afk hauling". any sort of afk outside of empire space (unless you're in a corporation/alliance who is at war making some empire unsafe) and you're a frozen corpse. you're obviously inexperienced in the game if you performed any afk transportation. not saying you never played it, but you didnt scratch the surface...therefore..have zero credentials |

I can recommend servers, go to Lionna or Bartz. Theyre very good. I re-activated a couple weeks ago. I had 2 toons which played in C1-C2. Both were 30, and 35. I decided to park them (and yes, twink my newbies with their adena and gear) and re-roll If you start on a new server, your first character you play to level 6 becomes your novice. He can get free buffs, soulshots (for completing quests etc.) and trade in N-grade gear for better. Since I twinked, I didnt take advantage of this but the list of buffs alone would be very nice. I see new players in starter cities all the time. The only problem is selling N-grade gear. Its almost impossible since new players just trade up, and other players are already top geared since theyre playing alts. Not until you hit 20 will you really be able to participate in the market and selling your gear to other players in Dion. Unlike how it was when I played it, hitting 20 takes a matter of days depending on how/where you play. Its nothing like it used to be. To make this short, no its not too late. However, yer not gonna max level in 2 months to do raids. Theres a sense of accomplishment with this game that lacks in other games that you always hear people complain about "I maxed to 60 in 3 months and got bored of raiding for gear". I will say, if anyone feels they need to be top level to compete in this game...thats a very false assumption. This game is very competetive and fun through all the levels. |

you guys, funcom is working very very closely with Microsoft. They will more then likely be the premier MMO for windows Vista considering there arent many other MMO's other than Eve that are working towards this goal. I wouldnt be surprised if they publish. http://www.funcom.no/wsp/funcom/frontend.cgi?func=publish.show&func_id=1123&table=CONTENT&item=1004 why are you all so damn dramatic? |

if I remember right, the metaphys in Anarchy Online was almost soley dependant on his summoned pets. I know its a dated game, but that class was the most fun Ive ever had with any pet class in any MMO I've played |

they dont attack back any more. they dont compete with your mobs any more either. something in the way theyre operating for whatever reason. they disengage a target if another person has targetted it. it can be entertaining, attacking their mobs over and over and watching them run in circles. currently the bot situation is nothing like it was back in C1 and C2. I remember having long drawn out battles with botters claiming territories. almost a shame, that doesnt really happen any more. but I can only speak for Lionna |

Some more good points making me look like a nub So obviously pay per minutes won't work but a daily basis could be a good way to go. I justl think the monthly sub is flawed for people in my position, especially when everything costs twice as much. I think you would get a lot of interest in daily subscriptions. Personally, i wish the games I currently subscribe to had that option. you may not get a lot of attention from younger gamers (high school and younger), but from older gamers this would be a great option. |

I played SWG the day it was released and quit within the first free month. What turned me off? Pet handlers. They were extremely over powered and over abundant and the creatures that could be tamed were a joke. I went back to the game a few months ago. I was really digging the space flight, that part of the game is very solid. the quests kept me busy also on the planets. I was happy to see there was still a very good economy for even starting characters. I liked how they enhanced the combat also making it almost twitch I started to experience bugs. several of them that I remembered back when I first played it. Pathing bugs especially with AI. Also, going through terrain before objects could draw trapping you inside object. Or having quest objectives spawn inside of objects. There were also several broken quests that could not be completed. in short, thats what made me stop playing this last time. I actually think the game is a blast, but theres no excuse for the bugs that have plagued the game since it was released to still be around. Especially those type. I dont pay for that sort of garbage. |

consider your risks carefully. if your game has so much as a few seconds of a time sink... be prepared for a law suit. gamers will put this under the microscope and every second of every minute they pay for they will expect to get quality gaming. this means people will be pissed that it will take them X amount of minutes to harvest materials, or wait their turn to kill a mob, or wait for a group, or lagging out for 10 seconds 2 times every hour. Every single instance of even a hint of loss of time, expect an enraged subscriber. it just wouldnt work...for those reasons. |

I was a very hardcore lineage 2 fan. I played the Kor open beta, the NA closed beta, prelude and for about a year after it was released. The grind "Back Then" was awefu and I still loved it I resubscribed 2 weeks ago. I parked my lvl 45 BD and re-rolled. Man, did they tweak the xp and adena grind or what? getting to level 20 is a breeze.. getting to 30 is also very quick. Theyve added a crap load of content to the game, the world is HUGE! let me just say that I am a fan of games that have a high risk vs. reward. My favorite game is Eve, and after trying both WoW and EQ2 for equal lengths of time I can honestly say my second favorite is Lineage 2. the game is severely under rated. its extremely competitive and very interesting. Whoever said the gear in L2 was boring, I find that very VERY misinterpreted after seeing the redundant looks in WoW and the lack of artistry in EQ2. the biggest thing I like about L2 (much like Eve) is there is no instant gratification. You will achieve more and be much more successful in a clan. You will not be able to hit max level within months and if you stick with the game you will earn respect for being a vet. To me, this is a huge plus. another contrast is that this game is about PvP, castle seiges etc. Its not about questing and grinding mobs to try and quickly out level everyone on the server (impossible actually). In fact, there are times and strategies that require you to de-level in order to optimize your characters skill points and adena earnings. theyve added new crafting shops for dwarves so you can go to a shop with the proper materials and adena and create goods without even having to spam channels or search crafters. just go to giran and you'll find numerous crafting shops. theyve also added fishing wich is a nice break from PvP and questing. in a nutshell, if you like a competitive game but enjoy a very rewarding and long path to higher levels.. you'll enjoy L2. If you're a fan of CRPG artwork, animations, music and sound you will get drawn in by what L2 has to offer. If you think being competitive is jumping into a game and maxing out in 3 months for high end content.. you need to play something else. High level players in L2 have earned respect (much like vets in Eve). cheers! |

instancing is a feature that, if used well, gives the subscriber a sense of being the protaganist. it greatly improves "my" immersion during quests and different situations. the guy above me, I agree 100%. however I dont think I could give a specific percentage on how much instancing I like. I like instancing when its used to put me into the story. camping and waiting in line to assassinate a named mob, this should never exist in a true roleplaying game. neither should crossing the path of an important mob (named) that you slayed previously. instancing is slowly evolving into something where players can finally feel important, and quests/objectives will feel complete once the player has finished their quest. its all in how the developers incorporate instancing. some of you think very shallow when it comes to the possibilities of game instancing. |

I tend to play games with a greater risk vs. reward I love rewarding games, but I really love games where I feel I am risking a lot. where building my character means something and at each turn I need to take care. but honestly, I dont just play one game over another. I drift a lot. I may subscribe to Eve for a month or two and cancel it because I resubscribed to WoW and it has all my attention. I play Eve, lineage 2, Eq2, WoW. I usually keep 2 accounts open, sometimes just one. But I never dedicate myself to a MMO |

if your looking for a good business/market system then check out Eve. The market is very competitive which makes corporations compete for certain sectors/regions of space (due to the ore required to build) heck, if you know what youre doing you can make millions just being a trader. a lot of folks dont even leave the station to rake in the cash doing daily trades working the escrow and the market. |
