Greetings,

I simply hope that it comes out as Star Trek ™ not something star trek flavored.

They need to realize that the Federation alone at release is going to fail utterly.  Adding in the Klingons and Romulans would make the game much more attractive.

December 21st, 2012  : mayan calendar ends (not end of the world like some uninformed ppl think)

IF, and that is a big if, the game is going to come out, it will be by then.

Enjoy.

dracus is an example of what happens to bright well-meaning star trek fans after they play more than 10 hours of Star Trek Legacy (a thousand curses upon it and upon Maddoc).

He should be pitied, put into rehab and hopefully healed.

For the Love Of......

CBS is only affliated with Zenimax/Bethesda in as much as it is Bethesda who took over the general Star Trek Gaming License two years ago and started throwing out budget titles for the PC, PS2, Wii and X-Box 360 under the Star Trek Title.

The deal signed was for five years, and encompasses all genres of Star Trek up to the day that the deal was signed, however, under the original deal, Bethesda do not have any rights whatsoever to produce a star trek mmorpg.

While it is true that perhaps Bethesda could have taken over the MMO from Perpetual, i would think that the fact that Bethesda have stated categorically that they have no interest in producing an MMORPG of any kind would be reason enough to count them out.

The fact that CBS is affliated with Zenimax/Bethesda is not a contested point - however, the chances that it has anything to do with STO - zero.

According to my sources within Bethesda, they do have at least one star trek title planned this year, but its nothing to do with STO.

Incidentally, it is worth noting that CBS do not have any rights to produce trek titles related to the new movie franchise either, as these rights were signed of to JJ Abrams as part of the 5 year deal he signed to produce star trek titles. It is his company, Bad Robot, that has rights to produce any games based on the new series. They ALSO have rights to produce an MMORPG based on the new movie/tv franchise if if they wish to - But they can have nothing to do with the existing franchise.

Anyway - I am pretty sure we are going to be hearing something regarding Star Trek Online fairly soon. Incidentally, as i posted above, anyone keeping a close eye on the domain around the 3rd/4th/5th of March would have noticed something very interesting. It was covered up fairly quickly and only viewable for about 12 hours, however it was somewhat revealing.

For any folks who question the validity of the information i have posted above - it should be known that i run Hailing Frequency - "The Internets Largest Podcast Dedicated to Star Trek Gaming" and i have done so for the last 3 years. I have plenty of contacts within the industry.

At least TRY and do some research before making your opinions/thoughts seem factual.

http://www.developmag.com/news/28709/300m-funding-boost-for-Bethesda-MMOs

Edit:

Good lord, you even hve a "source" inside Bethesda and you still didn't know their parent company had a $300mil funding boost specifically to produce an mmo, and not only that you claim to know that Bethesda have no interest in developing any mmo at all, ever? lol

Your "source" (if you have one) is a tea boy at best, time to get a new one.

Efefia maybe you could link us to YOUR podcast that has been serving the ST community for years, I'd be glad to hear what you have.

Greetings,

One hears alot about how "elite" "unstoppable" and "incredible many clans, guilds, corps are.

To me the true hallmark of a great organization is perpetuating excellence and that is done only through training.

So my answer to the OP's question is thus: When you reach max level, help others, train them and help instill love for the game in them.  This will go a along way towards your own fun and the success of whichever game you play.

Greetings,

If you want a hardcore sci-fi experience, there is, unfortunately, only one MMO.

EVE Online.

Some would say it is the only hardcore MMO, since it is the only one that allows (to my knowledge) non-consensual PvP everywhere (though in some places you will get slammed by the police).

It is also the only MMO period that is on one server, without sharding.

I would recommend the 14 day free trial, but only spending 14 days in EVE is like saying you have seen Asia in 14 days.  EVE takes about 6 months to get your stride.

Good Luck no matter what you choose.

Brilliant, at least try to be a little more subtle. What an idiot.

I prefer not to be subtle, too easy to be misunderstood.

Enjoy.

EVE Uni is good, Agony Unleashed classes will help you as well.

After that, and Im talking 2 months or so, get into a 0.0 alliance corp, a real alliance that has sov, and stick with them.  Youll learn more in6 months of 0.0 than 4 years of empire dwelling.

I know this against the conventional wisdom, one of the reasons you can be sure it is true.  What are you going to lose as a noob in 0.0?  Insured t1 frigs and cruisers?  What you learn about how the game OPERATES will serve you in your eve career.

In other news, BoB internally takes a very hard line on exploits, abnd after ONE SMALL fuckup 4 years ago CCP has very strict controls in place to prevent a repeat.

Anyone who thinks differently is just terribly bitter they get beaten so hard by inferior numbers.

I think BOB is having a difficult dominating the Delve region, nevermind EVE in general.

All Empires go through cycles:  Revolutionary Initial, Formative, Post-Formative, Couter-Revolution or Civil War, Reintegration, Pre-Empire, Imperial, Primary Decay and Fall.

BOB is in Primary Decay, enjoy the Fall.

Bethesda has earned the eternal enmity of most hard core St fans due to the Legacy Debacle.

Lets hope it is far from their unfit hands.

Yeah, they need to reassure the hardcore Trek fans that they are serious, otherwise they minds well forget it all.

NON-consensual PvP is vital, ala EVE's danger level.

This could be done quite nicely with the Federation, Klingon and Romulan Empires existing and if you are a klingon raiding into Federation space, you can find PvP but it would be potentially very dangerous.  Areas like the Triangle could be a sort of no mans land with trade, merc, intel opportunities.

What the game can NOT be is some Federation Fairy tale, Federation Boyscout Online.

Here is to hope..

the system requirements on the box are ALWAYS a joke, written not by the devs but by marketing people who want to sell copies.

Get over it, BOB is now a 2nd rate power, it is like the UK, it used to have an empire but is just now a rump of its former self.

I think we have solidly shown that

1) gaming is a hobby that requires investment of funds

2) said investment will be easily met with 1000$/€ per year

3) the investment in this hobby is significantly less than most other pasttimes.
