Or you could "wait" until holodeck technology is upon us...

Don't wait, upgrade now and every 9 months.

CCP is doing quite well, and it even allows gamers to pay with in-game currency.

The point still stands, 250k of the best gamers will alway be more interesting than 9 million blue-pillers.

Enjoy,

If there is not danger in a game, the kind of people who make a game will stay away.

Any game that allows you to play only against AI is weak and pointless.

EVE has a small, strong and growing group of hardcore gamers.

We would rather have "modest" numbers (250k) of elite gamers than 9 million pajama clad 30 year old teenagers.

Enjoy,

Hello, It would be quite good to see PVP on new continent whith new house area for new t6 houses and more powerfull GH, quests for t6 recipes for new equip and hardcore quests for group and raid.

An MMO without non-consentual PvP is an intriguing form of group mastubation, nothing more.

Report to EVE Online for your lessons in PvP.

I have to second or third the suggestion for EVE. EVE can be as difficult or as simple as you would like for it to be. It is up to you on how detailed you want to be in your endevours or how many people you want to piss off along the way.

Though many people, correctly, make alot about how much griefing there is in EVE, you will also find the highest level of cooperation among its members.

Though one might be able to run a POS (Player Owned Station) alone, it is no fun, and building an Outpost alone is not possible.

In short, EVE is Cooperation against (or to commit) Grief.

There is EVE and then there are all the other MMOs that wish they were as good.

Greetings,

Best intel reports that Cryptic is developing the game.  As far as a release date, good luck.

Greetings,

Gaming is a hobby and needs funds like any hobby.  In fact, computer gaming is one of the cheapest hobbies around.

First off most people will need a computer anyway, if you dont have a computer you are lost.

Just add 1000$ to most any decent system and you will have a roaring computer.

People in this thread have correctly indicated that you can get a gaming computer for 1000$, esp if you build it yourself.

Golf, Scuba, any form of car hobby, etc.  All of these hobbies will cost you significantly more, enjoy.

It would be nice to have people who were Captains and Admirals have to actually earn those ranks and have progressively more complex gameplay and responsibility.  That would be a great counter to the 13 yr old "Admiral" plague that afflicts many Star Trek games, and other mmos as well (though their problem would more likely be 70th level 13 yr old).

Star Trek is a rich and complex universe, part of its success is that it never talked down to its audience, and in its better episodes forced people to think, or rethink, their prejudices.

It would be nice to have a scaling level of difficulty, or even better a bifurcated system, one for casual players and one for advanced.  I doubt many people would like the implications of a bifurcated system.

There is also the question of the cleverness of the programmers to come up with such a system.

I only hope that they are reading our posts and realize what a fatal mistake making Star Trek a sort of WoW in space would be.

Greetings,

There are few people who want a Star Trek MMO more than I.  I have been looking forward to getting back into the ST universe since the end of Starfleet Command 3, which is a while ago.

My point, which you seemed to have missed, is that I hope the game is a hardcore sim with Romulan, Klingon and Federation playable characters and ships.

For example, EVE is a highly successful, but not highly popular hard-core sci-fi game.  I would much rather have 200,000 ppl playing a very complex Star Trek sim than 3 million playing some Star Trek flavored™ piece of space garbage.

I have seen what Star Trek Flavored™ games look like.  Legacy, a thousand curses upon Maddoc software.  It is not pretty.

So my vote is for a FULLY realized Star Trek universe, with cloaking pain in the ass Romulans (thats me!) Brutal Klingons and Federation Boy Scouts.

Romulans and klingons as player characters from the start or it is DOA.

Greetings,

CBS will need to do two things to make STO successful.

1) Hire a company with a PROVEN record, able to deliver complex dynamics.

2) Finish the game, i.e. Klingon and Rihannsu playable characters.  Making the game "Federation Boy Scout Chatroom Online" will fail utterly

3) Respect the Hardcore fanbase of Star Trek.  As I have mentioned in the Legacy debacle, the Hardcore is the only core.

Greetings Humans,

It has come to my attention that further Federation propaganda attempts under the title "Star Trek Online" have ceased.

It is the hope of the Romulan Star Empire that any future simulations, considered or actual, include the Rihannsu (romulan) people.  It is plainly obvious that our agents in the early 21st century have put an end to this propaganda plot, any future developers should also be forewarned.

This is a time for celebration, that the ongoing propaganda vehicle known as "Star Trek" has been stopped from excluding not only the Rihannsu people, but the followers of Kahless as well.  We consider any attempts to simulate the intricate politics of the Alpha/Beta quadrants without its most vital members to be, at best, foolhardy.

Now is the time to take stock of what makes "Star Trek" so compelling and to make sure that is contained in any possible future sim or "mmo".  An earlier comment was made as to the death of "Star Trek".  I daresay that in an era in Earth's history where people trade security for freedom and the rise of fascism, it is difficult for a story of hope like Star Trek to thrive.  All the more reason to keep it alive, in its FULL and COMPLETE form.

It is obvious from Perpetual's business practices that they lacked Mnhei'sahe, so I, for one, will not lament their passing.

For the Rihannsu People, Jolan'tru and Mnhei'sahe
