Unless you have actually gotten to play it. Than you truly do have a basis for a praise or bash, as you see first hand what is going on rather than people who base bashes on hearsay.

Yes, most of those clips are alpha or pre alpha.

Or we can continue to explain to people who ask why it isn't needed in this style of game, rather than coming off as rude to the rest of the gaming community ^_^

You can stealth like you can in real life. There is no vanish command to make you disappear in broad daylight, on the spot. Use the land to hide or get an advantage on other players. The stealth you are looking for is not the type of stealth that should be in a game like this.

The reason though I believe and feel is that I have always been contributory to the games development and when possible I will always display this in beta applications. Perhaps I have just been lucky being chosen for so many betas but I'd like to think it was from experience sometimes.

But I have to be honest I really want to play too!

You know I wasn't referring to you and believe you would be a great tester lol. It was some other posts that made me think that.

On the topic of ranged combat, just because you read it does not mean it is in :-D . At gencon and dragoncon the way to target people with spells was to just click them and then you would be logged on, and if you have seen the new video thread, that seems to be the way it is in those videos as well ^_^.

I would check the beta center over and over but not the email. They have had some problems with emailing to various services like hotmail. Hotmail is so bad that at times people get the newsletter, but after getting it for months, it just stops. It is a known issue, just check the beta center.

Magic is more than fine in most mmorpgs. The lore doesn't prohibit the use of magic and there are many examples on where it is, so there is no reason to block it here.

There is no trick, but you guys make it sound like you just want to play, not test. Look back at the responses the beta threads have generated lol.

To be honest, hitting random buttons would make it so that you do not leave a pattern which would make the mob not be able to predict where to place his shield.

That's a possibility or maybe it just adapts where you do/did the most damage.

It's not really a 'shield' either more where the target focus most of their defence, you're also again ingnoring that the majority of the damage does not come from normal attacking but from combos what also are supposed to check versus the defence shield system.

And what about the spellcasters who can lock on target mobs from a distance? I am pretty sure they can button mash to burn mobs down. Going back to melee though, we can only speculate on what information has been released, in which we only know of the low level stuff. And according to all the low level stuff, it takes 1-4 attacks to kill things your level and combos are not hard to learn. You think I am ignoring things but you are ignoring the fact that players will not button mash their way to the top, but they will be able to button mash to a fairly decent pve level. BASED OFF OF WHAT WE KNOW AND HAVE SEEN, not guessing about higher level content.

Well in a couple days when I find out if I won a beta for SG, I will test that out and decide. Right now I would go with DFO.

Long post with concerns about button mashing etc

I suggest you read the article again. He did not say the combat was button mashing. He said the combat rewarded strategy over button mashing.

He said with strategy you could take a mob out in 1-2 attacks while if you went in without strategy and just swung it was 3-4, or something close to that. Not a big gap of difference.

At the first levels you're correct in saying that.

That is what he said, not me. I doubt you are going to see many regular mobs that require 8-12 attacks to kill. This example, despite the new combat system is basically what your typical mmorpg uses.

When WoW first started, you could kill a mob with 1-2 abilities, or 3-4 auto attacks, same thing for FFXI, same thing for Vanguard.

EDIT: Obviously it is going to scale, but it seems they all start out this way.

Because, you know that Mythic is not going to drop the ball on WaR.

Sarcasm at its best!

When you take into consideration that Electronic Arts controls Mythic, dissapointment becomes a synonymous statement.

Only reason I have no intent to bother with War Hammer is specifically due to the extreme amount of craptastic games EA has rushed out inorder to exploit the consumer video game market.  And their sequals are the best!

EA/Mythic might have something with the new mmo although the track record is enough cause to lend caution.

Of course, we could also over analyze Funcom's initial release sucess with Anarcy Online.  ;)

I think Age of Conan could be great and I'm glad theve pushed the release date back to march of 2008.  As with someone else who said it, pushing it back a little further to ensure an open environment of availble content would be better, unless it already has the content.

Ahh, the uninformed! EA is helping fund the game but they aren't actually touching the project at all, as has been stated over and over by the developers.

Hail all,

I'm hoping someone who has been following the game even more closely than I have could answer a few little questions I have about role playing in AoC.

#1.  Do choices matter?  Dialogue choices are present in MOST single player rpg's and I'm so happy AoC is doing this also.  I'm currently testing Pirates of the Burning Sea, and there are some conversations where you have options of dialogue.  In PotBS, it doesn't seem there is any kind of difference made by what you choose.

Anyone know if AoC dialogue choices actually matter? Open up a quest while closing another or something?  For those of you who may not know what I mean here's a recent screen of the dialogue choices:

images.mmorpg.com/features/1630/images/1630_1.jpg

#2.  Are they planning to have a Role Playing server?  The lore and setting could make for an outstanding roleplaying environment.

All power to AoC.  King Conan looks to conquer MMORPG's and I support him.  At least until the BioWare MMORPG comes out .  Thanks in advance for all insigt and cheers mates.

I will answer in reverse order.

2) Yes, there will be RP servers.

1) I doubt the dialog matters much. If you choose to not accept a quest it isn't going to go away, and I would imagine if you beat the "beat around the bush" options, it will eventually bring you back until you give them an answer that can advance to the next part of the quest. There aren't rep grinds from what they say so certain dialogs aren't going to make the npcs look at you in a certain light for more than a span of a couple quests I would imagine.

I think it shows my comp specs on my xfire profile page. Those are a tad outdated though, I guess I should update them.

How many levels are there? 50? 60?

So you have a good 33% ish of the game is single player?

The first 5 levels tutorial being instanced single player? Cool. Good idea. Let players get comfortable in the game before throwing them to the wolves.

But 20 levels?

Seems a bit much.

Still, all in all, very intrigued by this title and wil continue to keep my eye on it.

They are referring to the PVE levels in the game. There are 80 PVE levels and 20 PvP levels. So after the single player part you have 60 pve levels to gain and 20 pvp.
