Warhammer Online's Army of Beta Players Now Half a Million Strong... and Growing

Electronic Arts Inc. today announced that Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning (WAR), the highly anticipated massively-multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) from EA Mythic, has surpassed 500,000 closed beta registrants in North America and Europe. Beta testing resumes next week with a special sneak peek at the new Dark Elf lands and careers. Thanks to the tremendous response from fans around the world, the development team has a strong pool of gamers to engage in WAR’s final tuning stages.

"It’s fantastic that over half a million players want to help us with the development of WAR,” said Mark Jacobs, VP and General Manager of EA Mythic. “Their feedback will help us take WAR to the next level as we focus on refining gameplay, adding polish, and most importantly, making sure the game is extremely fun. We can’t wait to let them all into the living, breathing Warhammer universe that we’re creating.”

Poised to be one of the biggest new MMORPG releases of next year, WAR is slated for official launch in Q2 of calendar year 2008. The Beta Center is still open and accepting recruits at: https://betacenter.eamythic.com/signup.php.

Based on Games Workshop’s epic and longstanding tabletop fantasy war game, Warhammer Online features revolutionary Realm vs. Realm (RvR) game play that immerses players in a world of perpetual conflict. For more information, please visit http://www.warhammeronline.com.

War is everywhere in Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning (WAR), the new fantasy MMORPG from the creators of Dark Age of Camelot. Based on Games Workshop’s wildly successful Warhammer tabletop fantasy war game, this world provides a rich setting for hundreds of thousands of players to experience the epic nature of war and the glory of battle.

Players are thrust into a grim world of perpetual conflict to fight for the Realms of Order (Dwarfs, High Elves, and Empire) or Destruction (Greenskins, Dark Elves, and Chaos). Next generation Realm vs. Realm game play ensures that players are never fighting alone. With an army of allies at their back, players will defend their homeland, invade enemy Realms, and ultimately lead the siege of their enemy’s Capital City. Every aspect of the game – every player, every quest, every encounter, and every battle – can turn the tide of the ongoing war and mean victory for a player’s Realm!

For the first time ever, players can engage in Public Quests – multi-stage, communal quests to be completed by allied players fighting together against overwhelming odds. They can also embark on an epic quest to complete the Tome of Knowledge and unlock Warhammer lore, detailed monster information, new abilities, rewards, and major story plotlines. Drawing from a quarter century of highly detailed source material, Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning will bring Games Workshop’s fantasy world to life in a way that will allow players to create characters destined for great deeds on the field of battle.

Yes, it is closed beta. You could have gone to most of the warhammer online forums and found this out with a quick search, you probably could have done a quick search here as well to see it.

Your signature is breaking the WAR NDA.

I have been in many Beta's and one of the main statements is not to disclose that you are in Beta.

Maybe they will find you and ban your Beta account (hopefully).

I just hate people that break NDAs and  think they are cool.

Bye

Even more so when people have no clue what their talking about and make it completely obvious, and think they are cool.

Like it has been stated in countless threads throughout the years, you are allowed to state that you are in the Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning beta, the NDA allows this. Next time you fail making a personal attack, please do your research first.

EA has also given them the financial backing to be able to push it back until they feel confident with the state of the game to go into launch with.

They would never say "denied" they would only inform you if you got accepted. You could be waiting until a month before launch though because the game will be in beta until launch ( obviously ) so you just have to sit, wait, and hope you get in.

Or , you could win a contest or submit artwork , etc.

I first got interested in Vanguard when I had heard that Brad McCain (the maker of EQ) was behind the design.  Still, the game seemed unfinished when it came out.  I don't know; maybe he didn't hire the right folks to code it or something.  Worker loyalties aren't always where they should be.

Now I read all of these posts, some saying Vanguard is up to par now; that Sony has used their golden touch to turn it into something nice.

Is this true?  Is this a good game now?  Worth coming back?

I think I stil have the box of disks.  Tell me, what should I do with them.

Isn't his name Brad McQuaid?

WAR will attract MMORPG players from games such as Dark Age of Camelot which, during the time I played, had a very nice community.

As another has said, we are allowed to say we are in beta, and I haven't received any PMs on it actually. I have received friend invites, but no questions.

The one thing WoW did right with all the downtime at launch ( I was on a very laggy and buggy Skullcrusher server ) was that when I first made my complaint about not being able to play because of 11 days of downtime during the first month, they gave me three months free time for it.

Watch some of the older RvR videos on youtube and you will see in open areas they are still not so easy to see from far away. As you get closer and closer it gets easier, but from a pretty good distance they are difficult to see.

That is a very bold statement Jimmy. Would just like to point out that graphics =/= great gameplay. Look at half of the PS3 titles, or Vanguard for example.

You know, I've seen these sort of polls on every game that has a 'good' vs 'evil' theme.  In every poll the 'evil' side wins in the polls by a nearly 2 to 1 margin but when launch occurs the opposite is actually what happens.

I think people like the idea of playing evil but when it actually comes time to actually play the tend to stick with their nature which in general for most people is good.

I also think it is likely due to the fact that only about 1% of the people who are going to play these games actually watch the forums before the game is released so the polls have a really poor sampling pool.

This is completely true.

Obviously there will still be some bugs and such, but there will be nothing close to ruining your gaming experience I can promise that. I would buy it when it first comes out, but to each his own.

The Lich SHOULD be in. It is the most popular Mage according to their newest what do you plan on playing poll. Doesn't mean it will make it though.

Is the poll.

You keep making posts about nerds in a demeaning sense, which makes me wonder, what is worse? The guy who plays with the nerds and then makes fun of them, or them? Then again, this is a video game board and you are here talking about a pre-release game. How are we all not nerds?

Back on topic though, I would love to see them not just add one or two races down the road, but a whole other faction, wouldn't care what they chose but I would like to see the Skaven or the Vamps added.

Hard to pick one when you left out most of them lol.

EDIT: See you added a second poll but you still left out the Sorcerer.

Can't be 100% item based if a level 70 mage with nothing on can kill a level 40 with the best possible gear his level. Level based as well.

What is WAR? How will it be? I have lots of people pointing me towards this game as it is going to be UO 2.0

This is not, and will not be UO 2.0

Will it be more level/item based or more skill based like UO where it doesn't matter what level you are? Mainly PvP or mix PvE/PvP like UO? Free loot with penalties like UO? Carebear looting like WoW?

It is a mix. Gear drops off of players and mobs so the longer you play, the more you are rewarded. Eventually you will see a ton of people at end game with minimal gear difference.

Thanks guys!

If you want to know more about the game read about how Dark Age of Camelot was considering this is basically what the game is being modeled after. After that, head over to WarhammerOnline.com to get the FAQ, and watch all the videos on it. After that, head over to WarhammerAlliance.com and you can read the forums to answer any questions we already have answers for.

IMO:

WAR will have more subs than AOC.

...though AOC will be a better game than WAR.

Agreed.

I will go with the reverse, but I do agree neither will touch WoWs numbers.

Also, let it be known, and you can check my post history and see, I used to pick on WAR fans, and I was an Age of Conan "fanboy" long before I got to actually play.
