There are quite a few people here with great ideas for a 40k mmo. There are also quite a few glaring obstacles people have pointed out. I really hope THQ delivers with this thing, I love 40k. I personally couldn't imagine these games competing with each other for the core player base, who mostly have no idea what these wargames play like. A major misconception here is that Warhammer lends itself to an mmo better than warhammer 40k because of the scale of the actual tabletop game. Blame the awesome artwork and story for that! Both are unit based, true, but units in warhammer fantasy are actualy larger on average and more tightly packed together than in 40k. In base to base contact, in fact, while units in 40k have 2" to breath. 40k feels more like a skirmish game than fantasy, up until you get into the larger games @1,500+. To capture the larger scale battles in either of these tabletop games is going to involve a lot of things players just won't like. At all. Mordheim and necromunda are better examples of how these things should play out for the most part, with the larger more regimented battles being the icing on the cake instead of the main course. If all we get is Space Marines, than count me out!

What's really annoying here is that in a game where people are rewarded for cutting every throat they possibly can, they're ridiculed for this. Yes it's an exploit,<Mod edit> |

Just how much room we'll have to customize the Virtual tabletop will be what gets players off the fence, so to speak. The game is what you make it, truly. |

The latest incarnation of D&D is a singular abomination. If third edition was like watching a loved one suffer a stroke, then this is AIDS. Where is the verisimilitude in tanking, for Christ's sake? I'll see you in game. =) |

Maybe saying it's simple is more appropriate then saying it's shallow. Whether or not something is found to be Shallow is almost entirely a matter of opinion, as is the concept of complexity being a merit in itself. When something is simple, however, it's pretty f%$&ing obvious to the people it concerns. To developers it's not just art and you're not just an art appreciator; it's also a product and you're also a consumer. The "average" person is going to choose lighter entertainment over complexity, because they just want to relax and have fun. There is still a significant demand for complex mmos, it's just that much more unlikely to see them released when the costs to develop them are so high. Whether or not it's a matter of perspective.... is really a matter of perspective. |

Which government decided that you own virtual property? Where is it written? What is the context behind the law? Please give weblinks to it.
It's decided on a case by case basis, and this shit has been going on for a very long time. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/4397159.stm Old news for everyone I'm sure, but notice that last paragraph? "The China Daily said that increasing numbers of players were going to court to resolve disputes over stolen money and game items."

It seems in most discussions on this topic, people tend to focus on the fact that the majority of players aren't into RP, or are even against it. This is just confusing the real issue, which is the fundamental flaw of having actor's without a plot or believable stage. Congratulations to the devotees that make due, but without a living, breathing world with consequences, there's just no incentive for most of us. |

The greatest game I have ever played. 2-3 times weekly for the last 20 years and still nothing has compared. The work that artist's like Brom, Clyde Caldwell and Kieth Parkinson did for D&D in the 80's inspired me to learn to paint. I would be lost without that. |

The animations, creatures and area designs are very good so far. Visually, it seems to scale very well as you progress to higher levels. |

On both Titan and Odin, I've noticed the influx of new players from the latest expansion was very, very small compared to CoP & ToAU. Doesn't mean it's dying or anything like that, but it does mean it's growth is checked by competition or other factors. I've noticed old players tend to stick to this game like glue, but newer players that'll stay past their support job quest are too few and far between. The potential for this game to explode into popularity will always be there, just a solo increase/graphics update away... |

A Shadowrun mmo would absolutely dominate it's niche if it were even close to what the rpg has been. Even remotely close. Every other classic rpg IP has been screwed to death, peed on and buried upside down, so why not this one? The mechanics of Shadowrun would lend themselves to an mmo far better than anything so far. My guess is that the crack heads at Wizkids actualy forgot they owned this property. Wouldn't surprise me considering their track record. |

In your opinion, would the DDO engine serve as a suitable platform for other D&D online games? Things like Dark Sun online, Forgotten Realms online, Planescape online etc.?

Besides Beast Master, Blue Mage solos very well, as does Ninja. Duoing is definitely possible, and even competetive with slow or bad groups at the early levels. Almost any duo combination will work with easy prey, but some decent challenges take a bit more finesse. You can also get an NPC buddy to help out, which is a fun thing to work on, and the guards will sell you an XP boost ring for CP. Those rings are critical for soloing, and knowing when to use them and when not to makes a big difference when going solo. The BST quest requires a fight with a Kraken in Qufim, but stealth and a good map to look at can get you through the BLU quest easily.... and the NIN quest not so easily. |
