Wow I think I read all 3 pages; and no one actually answered his question!

If it hasn't changed from the very end of beta - there is CONDITIONAL TLC code in the game.

IE, If you cannot get XP from a mob, and the mob you pull remains uncontested until you kill it, no TLC is in effect.
However; if someone who can get  XP attacks the mob before you kill it, they get loot rights. This was Sigils original and (in beta) very popular answer to TLC.

People can go back and get full loot / content from dungeons they may have missed while levelling up - yet a high level cannot hog content if low levels are around and interested in the same mobs.

Geez you guys are way worse than the Vanbois! People who give their opinion are trolls and pricks eh? Yeah, I can see LOTR is gonna have a great community all right.

The game is fun and if you liked EQ, you'll probably like Vanguard.  It will be helpful to have at least 1.5 gigs of ram however, or else you'll get excessive hitching. I play decenty with my 3.4 ghz P4 and geforce 6800.

You have a good choice of solo and group play. At 19, I solo much of the time with quests; then throw up LFG when I want to group.
Because the land is so big, people are spread all over, and sometimes it can take a while to get a group.  But there's plenty of solo content to keep you busy while LFG. Also I'm not guilded yet, which would speed up grouping a lot.

The gameplay is challenging, yet not too hard. The death penalty is enough to give the game a bit of an edge (and give you an emotional involvement with your characters well being) which is a good thing! But unlike EQ you cannot lose a corpse, or lose a level by dying.
Also unlike EQ, health and mana regen is MUCH faster. I could never go back to EQ's extremely slow regen.

I found beta was boring, and the interface, icons etc were pretty lame. Not to mention the over-use of instances.

So I guess my answer is NO.

I'm a big fan of Vanguard - but I tend to agree with the reviewer about the lore aspect. I really don't have a sense of background storyline,
or really any background on the world at all.

Still having fun playing though...

Firstly I couldn't believe they actually made this game without a first person perspective...how stupid is that...

As for the gameplay...its very un-immersive with all the instances. Not a 'virtual world' that draws you in. I did like the 'twitch' aspect to combat though.

Anyways I didn't like it. Prefer a real mmorpg like EQ, DAOC, Vanguard etc.

Instances are great if you want to mix a single player game and a mmorpg. But for mmorpgs they suck. The aren't immersive; they take away from community, and they unbalance loot. That's why everything is soulbound in WoW and EQ2, so much loot comes into the world in order to keep the 'gimmee' crowd happy. The 'gimmee' crowd also can't handle competition for spawns, so they definitely love instances.

I hated EQ2 with its timers for all the dumb instances; as well as using the same zones for different instances.  Keep the same geography and location, just change the mobs and loot and call it a new zone! Pathetic.

Gimme a break..."cannot call because of time difference" ? Jeez man, how hard would it have been to call them? Hmm lets see...europe is 6 hours ahead of me on the east coast, so 9 hours ahead of california. So you could call them as early as 6pm your time to get through to them, assuming they open at 9am.

I love these troll threads with the dramatic title...then you read the actual point being made and its damned weak.

My review of the 1up community and that reviewer is that they're a bunch of tards who were probably in grade 3 while I was playing Everquest. Its just shows any idiot can post reviews on the web.

And what was that crap about moving to a continent with no priests? The guy doesn't even know what he's talking about.

Wow, looking at your posts in january,  you were criticizing the game and 'vanboys' left right and center; but you just actually tried the game now? WTF?

Aside from that, your 10 minutes of trying the game makes you a real credible authority. Oh wait, your criticisms long before even trying the game  already means you have no credibility.

However there's a nugget of goodness in your otherwise worthless post; and that's that you're leaving the forums.

Hmmm.  73%.  That would make it a C- in most grading systems.

And for $60 + 15$ a month, that makes it Junk.

Keep playing WoW then...hey its not junk - in fact, even a six year old can play it!

Lol I haven't logged into LOTR since Vanguard was released.

Then again, I could barely bring myself to login before.

I think the best items should be looted. Its WAY more fun looting a cool item from a mob you just killed then buying it from a crafter.

Maybe make crafted stuff almost as good.

The irony is amusing actually. Don't take my expletive personally; it just seems like every time I look at this forum, someone else has started a thread on this. Usually they are 'haters' who gleefully point to this article to validate their opinions. There are many balanced reviews out there; but this isn't one of them.

Vanguard kicks the crap out of EQ2. IMO EQ2 is not worthy of carrying the EQ name.

I played EQ2 the first year, up to the level cap. Was unhappy with:

- most of the loot drops in dungeons were 'red' hence unusable at the level you were at when they dropped
- WTF is with killing raid mobs and getting wooden boxes full of crap? Hours spent on raids for no reward? I've never
seen a more retarded loot system for raid encounters. Granted my experience ends at Tier 5 and some Tier 6.
- attunement - what a contrived mechanic. But hey lets keep crafters happy, no matter if it screws adventurers
- locked encounters. Yet another contrived mechanic to satisfy the whiners who scream mommy because they got ksed one time in EQ.
- instances. Nice way to ruin community in game.
- populating the exact same zone with different mobs and calling it a different zone.  So cheesy. Its real immersive to get to a dungeon and then get a menu of which rehashed version of the zone you want to enter.
- constant zoning and load times. Gets old fast.
- another reason community sucks is everyone idles in their instanced housing, instead of being together in the same game world.

Since Vanguard has none of the above issues and is fun to play, I consider it a much better game.

"all players can obtain a mount for free at 10th level"

A decent review. But when he writes crap like that I have to wonder if he actually played.
