I switched to DX10 and it set my shader model to 2...very strange. I set it back to 3.0; but does anyone have any idea why the default would be 2? Should I put it back to 3 with a 8800GT?

Many people are craving for something more, and I think AoC will be it. But I'm sure that little kids and people with crappy pcs will keep WoW strong

Just played them for 5 or 6 levels; but noticed that Barb can use bows and Conq can't.

If I was a mod here I'd lock all these lame threads and allow one official 'WAH I didn't register in time for early access" thread.

Considering that a geforce 8800GT isn't much more than $150, same for a fast core 2 duo.....I don't think the requirements are too out of line.

With those two components and a recent hard drive, the game runs fine on High with 2 megs ram.

New patch gave me a 30% fps increase.

Well I built that pc for 850 bucks, which seems reasonable and not too out of reach for quite a few people.

The 35 fps is with everything maxxed out. Most people will not be able to do that, unless they have a recent, higher end pc (but still well under $1000).

HOWEVER it still looks great on  lower settings. Many will happily run it on low or medium. I was actually very surprised how good it looks on LOW.

And if you do want to run it on high...look, 8800GT's are < 200 bucks now, dual core cpus can be had for 150 bucks than can easily overclock to 3 ghz. It wouldn't cost too much to build a pc that could run this quite well.

There's issues with SLI. Try with one card. I run it quite smoothly on HIGH with a 4 ghz e8400 and a 8800GT.

Average 35 fps. If I remove environmental shadows, its 50+ fps.

"your bizarre need for reality in a game."

Umm YEAH....that's why the WHOLE PC VIDEO industry is working on better and better graphics cards, because of people's "bizarre need for reality in a game." ROFL

Where the phone? I must call Nvidia and ATI and tell them how their whole business is a waste of time.

The best is SCALEABLE graphics. So if you have a high end pc, you can have it looking great; while people on lesser machines s/b able to run well on lower settings.

I am running AoC maxxed cause I have a new pc; but medium and low actually look very good as well.

Oh God! I spent more times lodaing than leveling. I think when I reached 8th level in the AOC Open Beta, if it wasn't for the instancing, I would of been 13.

Hell, even to take a crap in the game is an instancing experience of 7 to 10 minutes. Then it hitched during the crapping process continually.

Speaking of crap, the above post is full of it.

Loading in AoC is quick if you have a newer pc. But I can see warhammer is going for the lowest common denominator with its cartoony wow graphics. Did they actually hire artists away from Blizzard? Cause it sure as heck looks like it.

"I never thought things would look so bad for that game"

LOL, that is total BS! The consensus on AoC is that is a fun game; but the open beta has some bugs and you need a decent pc to run it.

Plus I have seen MANY beta leaks saying that at least right now, AoC is way better than Warhammer.

1. Is it true that DX10 is not impemented into the open beta client  and that its running off of DX9?

yes

2. If question 1 is true what kind of improvement regarding performance will we see when DX10 is implemented ?

dunno

3.Is it also true that the open beta is not recognizing dual core and quad core processors as having multiple processors and is  only detecting single processors ?

4. If question 3 is true what kind of improvment in performance will we see when they fix this ?

5. It SEEMS as if people with Vista are having more problems with this game than XP users, will there be a fix for this or what can be done ,if anything,(player side) besides going back to XP to help alleviate some of these problems?

I've heard the multi core issue is with XP. Also, I run Vista and AoC runs well. Hence I am sticking with Vista...

thank you

Holy $%$, so much BS info floating around!

'Leaks' from beta testers have confirmed that after 20 the world is wide open. The first 20 levels are pathed as its basically just preparation for the 'real' world. Once you hit 20, you go to your starting city and open gameplay begins.

There is no need for a Quad core any time soon, hell they even decrease your Performance sometimes and then you need to change it in the Task Manager to single core process anyway. I would prefer a E8400 over any Quad CPU first off because of electricity consume, do something for the Earth!

The E8400 is a dream processor...this thing is so fast...runs cool, overclocks nicely...

It was the winner in the AoC study...

Definitely a great processor (if you can find one)

The Xeon E3110 is the same cpu and its even cheaper. I got mine running great at 4.0 ghz.

AoC beats the crap outta WoW. Each to their own however.

Xeon E3110 @ 4 ghz

Geforce 8800 GT 512

Seagate 500gb HD

2 megs RAM

Vista 32 bit

1280x960, no AA, 16x ani

Bought this system in march for $850

Game runs on high settings between 25 - 45 fps, average is low 30's - which I am happy with.

Loading screens are pretty quick. 20 seconds to get in game, 3-5 secs or so for buildings / death

PVP minigames are pretty choppy. This is the only performance issue I have. Was still choppy at medium settings.
