I beta'd both and currently play Vanguard, for a lot of reasons. Basically I got  bored quickly playing LOTR...it seemed too easy,  linear, instance-heavy, I didn't like the UI, the combat was somehow unfulfilling....however the graphics and perfomance was great.

Vanguard had more of a feel of a huge open world...much better variey of classes....no lame restrictions like everything being soulbound...its more challenging and group oriented - but also has great solo play. At 29 I've soloed 75% of the  time or more. To me its main shortcoming is difficulty finding groups due to the large world and slow travel. Luckily they have started fixing that by adding  limited teleports.

Vanguard all the way. EQ2 is pretty much crap. Do you like BoE, TLC and instances? Then EQ2 may be for you. If you like freedom and a big sandbox of a game, Vanguard is the one.  But you need a decent pc and at least 1.5 gig of ram.

Bashing SOE is kind of sheeplike I think, its so trendy...

And the drama queen 'if soe buys it, I quit' posts are a big joke too.

The reasonable answer would be, lets see what happens and what they do to the game if they buy it. And then make a decision.

Lol you're wrong there; Vanguard and LOTR generally appeal to a different crowd. Vanguard is more old school, LOTR for the WoW / console crowd.

Lol you're kidding right, you really want to spend all your time travelling?

Seems like I spend most of my time riding my friggin horse, which is great and all when checking out new areas but gets boring and useless the 50th time around.

These ports are a great addition to the game. Dunno if you actually looked at how they did it; but its actually very limited. You still spend lots of time travelling.

Yep Vanguard is a good game and is definitely moving in the right direction. A global LFG channel and the ability to call groupmates
from anywhere in the world would help the biggest issue for me,  which is that getting  groups can be hard. Otherwise its fun to play and there's lots to keep me busy even solo at level 29.

Most games you can make level 30 in a day? What the heck? Hmm maybe this is where LOTR is getting its fanbase from.

Time to 30 in EQ, EQ2 and Vanguard is weeks. I guess this is why games like WoW and LOTR get called 'easy mode' mmorpgs.

Anyways I'm glad people are enjoying it. But I hope LOTR has a fun end game, or this is gonna get interesting.

"It was always questionable if a game could take WoW's crown and now that game has arrived"

Jeez I'm still waiting for a balanced review of the game. So far most seem like Tolkien geek raves that gloss over any shortcomings.

If you're gonna troll at least try and have some things right. Vanguard is NOTHING like EQ2. That's obvious to anyone who had actually played both games.

Anyways you seem to have a lot of time on your hands, is Lord of the Instances down this morning?

Hmm now I'm confused. Bored of the Rings had such a good ring to it...but Lord of the Instances is pretty good as well.

I do think instances is a big reason I could hardly make myself log in during beta. Instances really defeat the whole multiplayer, virtual world aspect of these games.  But they work for some people so hey...that's the beauty of having choices.

I played for the first year to level 50,so I can say what I want. My guild was the first guild registered on najena. We were the third best guild on the server, at least for a few months until * everyone I knew in game quit * No joke. Its been quite a while so of course I can't remember the instance names; but you mentioned a good example. That was not the only instance like that.

Enigma my friend, you are a bit mixed up. This thread is about EQ2 and Vanguard. This post : "I don't like EQ2 because of locked encounters, TLC, attunement, instancing, level specific gear, raid mobs dropping crap loot, etc" is not a troll post. Its an opinion.

On the other hand this comment "You post basically can be summed up as "I am a kill stealing, twink loving, bullcrap talking, EQ2 hating Vanboi." is definitely a troll post, so you may want to think for a second where the 'trolling' started before pointing fingers.

These forums are the most negative forums for Vanguard anywhere. Have a look just about anywhere else and you'll get a more balanced perspective. For some reason there's a certain group of people who don't like the game and continue to hang out here posting negativity.  Yeah yeah, you didn't like it. Ok, how about moving on?  Jeez if I trolled the forums for every game I didn't like, I wouldn't have time for anything else.

Lots of people are enjoying vanguard; but you'll find most of them playing it and not posting shite on these forums.

I don't like EQ2 because of locked encounters, TLC, attunement, instancing, level specific gear, raid mobs dropping crap loot, etc.
You did list some of its positive points however. But I think Vanguard is a much truer successor to EQ1.

People who "spent too much time playing EQ1" probably like Vanguard.

I know I do

Playing it and having a great time. Its the first mmorpg since EQ that doesn't feel 'dumbed down', or full of artificial gameplay restrictions  like EQ2.

Since you're playing LOTR, a 'fluff' game if I ever saw one; I'm not surprised you don't like Vanguard.

Lol nice username dork :)

I love the game; but agree it didn't need to be so large. Thestra and Qalia would have been fine, and then they could have put more work into bug fixing etc. Also you'd have a higher density of players which would be good for grouping.

the Game still kicks a$$ though. Except for the odd annoying, though usually minor bug.

Firstly 90% of posts aren't negative. But this board does have a lot of negative posts compared to other  boards however.

Couple of reasons - 1) there's a few trolls who like to hang here and continually bash the game
                                     2) people who enjoy it are generally playing the game, not posting. I'd much rather play than start posting positive threads all  day to offset the continual 'vanguard is doomed'  tard posts that crop up here like weeds every day.

The IGN boards are a more balanced source of info

Because some people just can't get over the fact that they didn't like the game. So when someone posts a topic about how the game wasn't for them, they all leap into the thread and paste in one of their selections of bashing posts.

These forums are the worst of any on the net for Vanguard. They really should give the haters their own forum so they can all satisfy each other with their constant crap. Maybe even give awards for who can post the most bashing, repetitive and trolling threads daily.

Ya it sucks big time, its WAY worse than beta. Brad screwed us all, third gen my butt, its all SOE's fault, Vanguard is dead, and I think I can bring meaning to my life by hanging out in these forums for six more months posting negative comments daily.

LOL  whatever. Back to playing the best game since EQ.
