i tried the game after the infamous NGE and didn't find it THAT bad until. . . i met a vet from the good ole' days and he showed me a Jedi enclave that was no more that a relic that was in utter disuse. it was downhill from there as i realized how far SWG had fallen.

Am i wrong here i thought a guilds keep is attacked when a guild says it can be? in a certain time frame. Or do you as questing actually get a message saying keep is declared war on get here now? If so then i take it back but my understanding is it s nothing like that at all. What i mean is out questing or whatever i m told enemies on keep no one saying hey we re attacking you come fight us.  Element of suprise is what i m saying i don t think this happens in AOC it s well known when you re getting attacked. Please tell me if i m wrong :)

I believe that you will get a notification when you are out questing, but it wont be a notification that you are currently being attacked so much as that an enemy army is wanting to attack, at which point it gives the defender some choice over when the attack actually occurs. I think I recall reading that the defenders can put it off for a certain amount of time, and the longer they put it off the more disadvantages they get.. but don't quote me on that.

I don't know how well that works in practice, as I can imagine defenders just choosing an off hours time when the attacker wouldn't be able to muster enough players to make an effective siege... but i wont hypothesize on that.

So no, i dont think there are any surprises in regards to suddenly finding you're under attack.

the defenders can put off being attacked right after they secure a keep, not before a fight.

and when i say you get a message i mean your guildies send you a message that says "come crack skulls!" (or something akin) and you go.

ok basically i just would like to know what the hype with this game is about.

i have seen one or two videos and a couple of screen shots  and thats pretty much it.

so what features does the game boast that makes the game worth waiting for? i.e. crafting, pve, pvp,rp, combat, and so on.

the main reason for this are the MANY flame wars that i see between this game and AoC (which i am a fan of too)  thanks much .

Here you have a link to a compiled list of all the known Features on one page, its a very long list so get some coffee before reading.=)

http://forums.darkfallonline.com/showthread.php?t=43318

thank you much

and to the poster that said war is a wow clone, its actually closer to the other way around blizzard tried to make a game using the warhammer ip first. when it wasn't alowed to it made two simmilar games warcraft and starcraft the rest as you say is history

QFTW

Someday maybe the WoW crowded will understand that WoW was not the first MMO ever.

Maybe someday you will learn this is Vaporware.  Untill then have fun jumping form one mmo to another.

So when it releases and does good? then what you going to say?

holy crap it came out?

im just joking i have a feeling that lots of people are really looking forward to this game but do you understand why all of these people are saying these negative things?

AoC overaly smells like a zergfest,

Ok, im gonna call these "epic" battles.  I want that and Im afraid AoC will be the "dont add to my fight" crap again.  However, on the other hand I am hoping those who like that sort of thing will be playing on a FFAPVP server and leave the epic stuff (if there really is any in AoC) to the PvE servers.

what do you mean "don't add to my fight"?

and yes there are going to be a lot of players within the guilds there will still be loads of strategy.

The fact you are not sure what i mean by that is very encouraging :-)

In DAoC (a realm vs realm game) many ppl try to make it an arena game and complain (oh so very very loud) that they dont want any other player (dont think they got its a mmo) in intere with "their" gameplay..long long story in a place far far away, but hope that helps.

now that you are hopefully finished patronizing me.

you wont have to worry about that the game is geared twoard pvp so if someone wants to fight just you then they will walk up to you and crack your skull, or you will crack theirs (with the exception of in pve)

I just went and got my CE slip and I just wanted to let everyone know the guy at the store told me that only stores that were PC heavy with sales would get the CE codes. I asked him if he had only gotten 10 of them like some other posts on here have stated and he said that he had gotten a huge stack of them which he showed me. He also told me that He was basically handing them out for anyone that even pre ordered the game not even the CE.

So in summary Im thinking that this whole CE pre-order, get open beta codes thing is just very poorly run and I am hoping that this isn't going to lead to some sloppy launch.

no i highly doubt that it will lead to a sloppy launch

i work at game stop but it was pretty much handled the same way most people outside of the mmo community don't care about mmo's. (i know that was redundant but i hope u understand what i meant by that) and besides we see this very often in consoles. all in all, it happens and if any one is going to get screwed it will be gamestop.

Yes but it s still a predetermined time, which to me = no suprise, bad implementation imo but to each their own. To say you re not fighting for something worthwhile in WAR is a little odd to me but no need to go into it. AOC is too limited for my style and time i can put into a game.

i didnt say that you were not fighting for something worthwhile  in WAR it just seems to me that there is more to fight for (especially immediately concerning me) in AoC

and while i can understand that AoC isnt your style of game (which happens) i would still see it as a surprise if i was questing and i got a message that we had just been declared war upon, forcing me to drop what im doing and go help.

thats just me everyone has their own thing. i really cant wait though both of these games are going to be fun!

early on they thought it would be a good idea to send you to hell if you severly jacked up spell weaving hell on paper it sounds like a good idea but they realized after getting responses like "WTF I GOT SENT TO HELL IN THE MIDDLE OF A SIEGE" so they took it out.

from what i understand about the whole "scheduling" thing in AoC it wont be " hey we get raided at 6 on Tues."

your guild has a certain amount of time to build your battle keep in which no one can attack you the longer you choose the less your benefits.  after that your more or less open to attack but to keep players from sacking your cam at 4 am the attackers have to set up a tent, basically to declare war. everyone calls who they can together hire some mercs and brawl.

i don't think that this will change anyone's opinions but i thought it would be helpful to provide some recently acquired clarity.

Are we required to raid day in and day out in instances just like in WoW to get our hands on the best loot ingame or can crafting or hunting named mobs in the open world get you some of the best goods?

In AO they had a lot of outdoors named mobs that dropped some nice items but they were always camped. What are they planning here in AOC?

i don't know how they plan on doing the whole raiding for items thing, but they are definitely making crafting a much bigger part of the game than i see on a regular basis.

crafted items are the only items that will have gem slots for upgrade so players will be able to make some of the best armor/weapons in the game only with the buildings in a player city and then upgrade it with the help of a gem cutter, which promotes players relying on each other.

its going to be soooo cool i cant wait!

ref link community.ageofconan.com/wsp/conan/frontend.cgi

As this kind individual linked the info you should be able to do the math.  Crafted items are far superior  than drop loot.

Except that the best PvE crafting ingredients will drop from raids.

you do mean gems right? those are the only thing that i can think of that would drop from mobs

well you don't have to rely on a guild.

you can actually become a mercenary and work for whoever you would like to and make money cracking skulls

as i been ripped off so many times before now.

the promise so much then you buy the game and its nothing what they say it would be like and the games just plane crap.

if you can find someone thats really nice and got the CE  they can give you one of the 5 trial keys that come with it

i definitely agree with both of you about the surprise thing. but AoC has my vote simply because in my opinion there's more of a reason to want the battle keeps. they are only nine per server, and the only to get the best endgame weapons and armor (crafting)  is to have certain buildings in the cities and keeps. so i think that i will fight harder if more depends on me winning.

but thats just me
