You missed out the opportunity to play a good game. Ultimately it may not be the game for you, but the hate on these boards is an indication of a good game. It also achieved one thing I never would have thought possible, to worry WoW lovers so much as to rouse them enough to start posting vs another game for the first time.

I would refrain from predicting the doom of this game before the first month is over. Doom sayers were proven wrong so far in many accounts, starting well before the closed beta.

While I'm usually playing more than one MMO at a time lately, I'm having trouble enjoying myself with the combat aspect of other MMOs after playing AoC. There are plenty of things that could have been done better, but this part is an important fun enchancing factor for me. It's not for everyone though. Others seem to be more attached to the auto attack system and can't derive as much fun.

MMOs is about balance. They will have good aspects, average aspects and bad aspects. As long as the balance tips towards the good aspects, people will stay no matter the problems. When the balance starts tipping towards the bad aspects, that's the time when people decide to move on.

Good games will always have a strong following but also tons of haters. Take WoW for example. If you were to believe the hate in these forums, that game should have less subscriptions than Archlord.

Back to AoC now. It's a niche game for a niche market. I'm very surprised that it has more initial momentum than LOTRO (almost the same momentum as WoW when it launched, but then the market was different). It of course remains to see how many subscriptions it will manage to retain by the end of the first month.

Welcome to EVE online ;)

Ah, oups, sorry. It's bashing AoC PvP time now, wrong game ;)

You will need the better rig you're building for AoC OP. The computer you just described will give you more pain than joy with AoC. As a minimum I would up the memory to 2Gb, but the other parts will still drag the experience down.

Who doesn't know advertising? Just curious.

How could they have 1M subscriptions when they didn't produce so many boxes to be sold in the first place?

AoC is a nitce game, people should be happy with subscribes roughly the amount of LOTRO.

You're advertising WoW's shortcomings as if they are the best points of the game, please don't. You're killing whatever good memories I had from the game, while I was there.

Flying mounts totally killed the immersion for me. Worse so than instancing. Want to go somewhere? Avoid all obstacles and pop into the quest objective just like a bomb from the sky. What's between you and the quest objective was irrelevant since you could just skip the whole deal. Flying around was cool for a while, but more was lost than was gained.

TBC is also the reason I've quited a bit after I heard about the next expansion. In a game that is supposed to be an RPG, they sure wipe character progression without a second thought. Of course I'm just one gamer and my opinion doesn't matter in the grander scene of things. I just couldn't see myself enduring the lose of so much effort.

The whole deal about the arenas is hilarious. From one point you're moaning about how much instancing AoC has, but you don't seem to realise that arenas are totally responsible for boxing the whole WoW PvP into instances. People now are just waiting next to the battlelord. Zone into the arena instance. Play the game. Zone out. Wait for the next instance timer to repop. If Blizzard does the same mistake with the next expansion (aka link all PvP progress with arena games), don't expect to see much life in any of the outdoor activities. You should also thank WAR for launching, else Blizzard would just rehash the old content with different colour textures.

Lets just hope that Blizzard is making Starcraft Online and is not aiming for the money so much, as to make the game so outdated graphics wise as to be old before it launches (WoW had this problem, it was the excellent stylised graphics and the artistic theme that gave a superior immersion factor back then).

WoW was a great game for sure. Just like EQ and UO were great games. Just outdated though. Probably a concious choice as Blizzard is preparing to launch their second MMO (hopefully Starcraft Online, so tired of fantasy at this point ...)

Honeymoon is officially over once the first month expires.

After that we'll know if AoC has the ability to capture the imagination of the audience it was released for. Also too many people play out of curiosity atm, they will go away once their standard MMO releases a content update. Besides, summer is almost upon us and there are certainly better things than looking at a computer screen.

Lets hope that the comming MMOs will have good releases as well (thinking WAR and Aion) and that WoW's new expansion will be infinitely better (and finished this time) than the previous one. The gender certainly needs diversity.

Darkfall's chances of release seem slim to zero I'm afraid, but it doesn't hurt to hope for a release I guess.

Your logic is a bit flawed. The people who work at home, work. They don't game. Sometimes they get lost in the work even more than those who when they leave the office building don't have to worry about work for the rest of the day.

Ole camp grinding worked because there was nothing else. When you have one choice, there isn't much to talk about. Now that people have more than one choice, the old style grind is abandoned, for good. I'm one of the old timers, I hated the system, it was sucking the fun out of the whole thing. Plus, I don't have the time to waste my energy on games with lack of features.

Being nostalgic is not the same as being fun. Time has that effect, we tend to remember the good things only once a sufficient amount has passed by.

What does the subject of this thread has anything to do with what you're saying OP?

It gives a purpose to the grind, even if that purpose is superficial.

The people who used to like dungeon crawls grew up and do not have the time for tedious timesinks any more (aka spawn camps). What worked in the dawn of the MMO age, won't work now that things have matured a bit.

Yes. The others can move a couple paces before needing to stop. They are also more prone to detection.

My care factor about trying to correct misinformation on these forums has reached zero recently. Makes me wonder why I bothered in the first place.

The rest of the classes drain their stamina when they move, while they move also slower when in stealth. When stamina reaches zero, they lose the stealth.

Hmm, that driver could be a year old or more then, depending on when you bought your computer. I suggest you visit the nvidia site and download the latest driver. Even better, download the latest beta driver, it has fixes for all the latest games. nvidia calls the drivers beta if the are not MS approved, so they are pretty good regardless of the "beta" tag.

Hence it exists.

You can't disable something that does not exist.

I still don't understand you, what do you mean by "the rest of the instances"?

You're complaining because the game has the ability to create more instances of a certain zone after it reaches an unknown number of players, although not such limit was reached and observed in any place besides the newbie zone area?

There is one Old Tarantia zone and one Old Tarantia instance. Unless it gets overflowed with people it will remain one instance of that particular zone. The fact that noone has yet observed a second instance outside Tortage is a testament that this limit is pretty high.
