I won't comment on the rest of your post. It's pretty obvious that you dislike the rules of the FFA PvP server. However ...

I like the last bit ... "I like Darkfalls approach." It's like saying I like to play with the rules of a game the doesn't exist. (For the record, WAR, AIon, Spellborn, Stargate etc. do not exist either. Yet.).

I don't know if the OP or part of his guild without his knowledge exploited. From past experience those that were banned for exploiting would raise the martyr cross vs the company and would convince everyone around them that they were wrong and unjustly persecuted. I've seen it way too many times to now raise an eyebrow when somebody yells innocent.

One think is certain, I would expect companies not to perma-ban customers, especially GL with whatever that means for the guild members below them without solid proof of misconduct. Given that, I'm more inclined to believe that there was in fact some wrong-doing taking place, than just an alarm set off somewhere. Companies suspend accounts when an alarm sets off, not perma-ban.

As for the bugs, there are always be there. Just because they are there, does not justify people from using them. Nor the excuse "I was not sure" is really valid. If uncertain, avoid. Or risk your account.

To Sarcazmo:

LOTRO's graphics are nothing special in directX 9 mode. Most people compare AoC directX 9 with LOTRO directX 10. They see that AoC is a tad better than LOTRO and say "what's he point?"

Do you understand the point now? Doesn't it make you wonder how exactly AoC will look when the directX 10 actually arrives?

The problem with these boards is that people are not trying enough to present a decent argument, for or against the game. One side always pulls the other to the far extremes. One claims the game is too good to be true. The other has to say it smells manure from miles away. Rinse and repeat.

Repetitive and boring. And the hilarious bit is that the people who keep these games afloat don't really care about anything else but the fun factor.

A trip to memory lane is a good thing ... filled with nostalgia and memories. Too bad that at some point the reasons that made us so annoyed that we quit creep at the surface again.

My comment has nothing to do with AoC or EQ1. I just remembered myself doing the same thing, some time ago. It was like a second honeymoon. Too bad it didn't last more than that.

To solareus :

You can present much better and more appropriate examples than this one, if you want to argue mass market appeal and sheep mentality. Forgetting for a second that you insult people's intelligence based merely on the premises of their preferences in gaming, people in general tend to play what they think is the most fun.

Personally I would wait at least for the first couple months to pass before I call AoC mainstream, and I like AoC. You don't like it, but you still think you'll do a lot better sales wise than I do (how else it will become mainstream?).

Do you keep this related to released games or adding the developed ones too?

You probably want to put WAR in 3 or 4, Spellborn in 4, Stargate in 4, Aion in 3, EVE in 1, LOTRO in 3.

Also, this classification lacks the fun factor, which is by definition the most important classification a game can have ;)

What's BBB stand for?

Also that link showed 12 people having a claim, with some of them having it resolved. Am I reading the site correctly?

And ... ?

Castle sieges are about choke points and keeping the attackers out. It's not like two armies will be fighting in an open field, if they can help it.

To synn:

Most people reference WoW as a comparison because today's MMO gamers are usually guaranteed to have experienced at least that MMO. It has more to do with market penetration and general public knowledge of its in-game mechanics.

To Battlekruse:

The zone limit is currently unknown. It's definitely higher than 50 but unknown if it's more than 100. I would expect each zone to have a different player limit, in any case.

The 48 people refers to one side of a castle siege. Which means that in the zone there will be at least double that many people. So the assessment that each zone holds only 48 people is in fact incorrect.

Regarding raid gear, I would suggest we wait and see the difference between the best raid and best crafting gear before we make hasty assessments. For now, gear does not play a significant role in a player's power, less so than other more gear oriented games.

I'll let you know my impressions when I have experienced my first siege. If it's anywhere near as good as it was in Lineage 2, I'll be having a blast.

To dirtknap69:

While I agree with you that AoC did not seem to add anything distinctivly better as far as NPC AI is concerned, please allow me to disagree with two of your other points.

The first one is about the quests. The quests have been improving with each MMO released these days. AoC is no different in this regard. Both the quests and the way they are delivered is a notch higher than anything else. A slight improvement yets, but an improvement nevertheless. I would still ike to see the quest dialogue not covering the chat boxes and an indicator that I'm attacked during dialogue mode.

Brain dead simple combat is not either. Again it's nothing far out, but it's a definite improvement from what it's out there. Melee is more interesting for sure than any other game I played. Casting is more of a standard deal. Healing is different in the sense that the priorities are elsewhere.

Of course all these is what I think about the game. Others can disagree, in the same manner I disagreed with your assessment.

I too find it weird that he can't run the game. Can't think of anything besides trying to disable the sound card and see if it makes any change.

Could it be some obscure anti-virus preventing the game from launching?

If you're on Vista, try to play it on adminstrative mode (right click on the executable and select "Run as administrator")

Don't want to be a party pooper but I would at least research this game a bit, before posting. I know the game is still in development but the concept may surprise you.
