Sieges are pretty smooth now, there are a lot of people that hate the game but have not experienced them or last experienced them over 6 weeks ago. Im writing up something with some recent videos to show stability issues and things working.

In the past I used to get bootd out of the zone and siege weapons didn't work properly.... No more...!

That's just your opinion mate, plus against the ROC  www.mmorpg.com/disclaimers.cfm#conduct here.

Have your opinion, that's cool, but at least back it up, whats not cool is just posting game hate for the sake of it.

It will add something to the game I think that will enhance it more so, sight is one of the most important senses, improving on it in game is no bad thing.

We shall have to see how its implemented and how performance stacks up.

ok.... adding in better graphics doesn't change that the gameplay is awful

bugs, 1 shotting, gems, duping, broken combat system, very unbalanced classes, broken classes, no promised content, terrible raids, broken sieges, and the GMs are the dumbest i've seen in any game

Looks like he backed it up pretty well there, AA.

All was asking for.

CUDA is Nvidia only, ATI has openCL, that lets the cards do C, C++, and assembly nativity on the card

CUDA is only  C, and does it through drivers, so it should not that hard to move something from CUDA to openCL if u have the openCL SDK.

With regards to AoC though ATI cards still hold the performance crown in game though.

here is what Fudzilla said: www.fudzilla.com/index.php

We've asked ATI executives about CUDA and possibly PhysX support, and ATI explicitly said that for the time being ATI wants to support open platforms and technologies and that CUDA is not one of them.

We have a feeling that ATI means that CUDA is not that open, and the other dimension is that CUDA is Nvidia's and that ATI will probably do any means necessary to avoid its usage. To be on the safe side ATI didn’t say that CUDA is 'no go' as its Nvidia; they would never say such a thing, on the record.

ATI was very clear that they want to support Open CL, some new Apple Computing language for computations on a GPU, but at this time there is no place or direct plans for CUDA.

We are under the impression that ATI won't have any other choice than to jump on this bandwagon, but that won't happen overnight and it will directly depend on the success and adoption of CUDA. Remember, you need CUDA to get PhysX working on ATI GPUs, so we say sooner or later it will happen.

Just saw this sweet video:  www.gametrailers.com/player/usermovies/257861.html

Raises the question, do you play on 'dual' or a 'Tri' set up like in the video?

Does it effect your perfomance much? It looked pretty quick in the vid.

Wonder what the machine specs were in the video...

Bit-Tech.net has a small write up with what they saw at Nvision last couple of days. Makes an interesting read and they say worth the delay...

www.bit-tech.net/news/2008/08/28/age-of-conan-directx-10-content-looks-stunning/1

Age of Conan DirectX 10 content looks stunning

We've had a sneak peek at the final Age of Conan DirectX 10 content and it looks like it's going to be worth the delay.

We've had a sneak peek at the final Age of Conan DirectX 10 content and it looks like it's going to be worth the delay.
We were lucky enough to grab a first look at the final DirectX 10 implementation for Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures yesterday and when you consider that the game is an MMO, the level of visual fidelity is stunning.

I haven’t had chance to go hands-on with AoC’s DirectX 10 mode yet – the video only made its way out of Funcom for the first time on Monday night, but Funcom said that it plans to release the video for all to see in the next few days.

I pushed to post the video ahead of the planned unveiling but Funcom wants to make some final tweaks—including adding developer commentary—before allowing it to be distributed onto the ‘net. I was also asked not to post photographs either, so we’ll have to wait for the video to be made available before you can see it for yourselves.

However, we can reveal that Funcom has created its own custom physics engine using CUDA, which enables some pretty stunning wind and water effects. In fact, I’d go so far as to say the water in Age of Conan looks almost as good as the water in Crysis with the quality set to very high; the shore blends with the environment and the waves move in a realistic manner.

What’s more, Funcom has done some pretty incredible work underwater – god rays are now present and they interact with the way the water surface is moving, resulting in some great lighting effects on show when you look at the sky from under the water.

The best example of the wind effects came when the character started casting spells while in the middle of a field – the grass around him rippled and moved in a way similar to how grass moves when a helicopter is taking off or landing.

HDR lighting also looks great and there are some great soft lighting effects around the edge of buildings, railings and foliage – light softens the edges of objects in a pretty realistic manner. Ambient parallax occlusion mapping also makes its way into the game too, and again it adds another level of immersion into the game.

I haven’t played much of Age of Conan so far, but some of the graphical and physics effects I’ve seen in the DirectX 10 features video make me want to sink a good amount of time into the game. There have been many videos of earlier versions of the engine running DirectX 10 mode, but the video I saw looked a hell of a lot more polished than any previous demos I’d looked at. There’s no release date confirmed for the DirectX 10 patch yet, but I don’t think it’ll be too far away based on what I’ve seen.

I was a bit upset over the delay to the launch of DX10 (thats an understatement to some of you), However, graphics don't make a game we know that, but realistic effects as described by the viewing author above certainly add an extra dimension and another level of immersion. Can't wait to try it out!

Gear Vendors only went on test server couple days back now too.

To conserve space the following links to stat descriptions and also icon views of the gear. Only T1 at the moment.

Here are screenshots for all of the level 80 PvP rewards currently on test live server (to see their stats):

Assassin and Assassin
Barbarian and Barbarian
Bear Shaman and Bear Shaman
Conqueror and Conqueror
Dark Templar and Dark Templar
Demonologist and Demonologist
Guardian and Guardian
Herald of Xotli and Herald
Necromancer and Necro
Priest of Mitra and PoM
Ranger and Ranger
Tempest of Set and ToS

(Credit Stounedi and McDoog's on test forums)

As many people are not Level 5 PvP yet on test server there are only a few people with some full sets.
Here is a Barbarian screenshot on low settings someone took:

It also seems a lot of the armor currently viewable is more tailored for a female character. As testing progresses on lower level gear more higher tier'd stuff will filter through. All stats are subject to change which brings up some interesting points for discussion with what we have now...

Right now it looks like, high invulnerability and health; generally low damage, and Low Cost from vendor's.

The caster gear gets a lot of +damage. A good trade off. Clothies easy to kill, but easy for them to kill off large cluster groups. Kinda like 1 damage for a melee is 1 dps, regardless of weapon speed. 1 damage for a caster is 0.1-0.4 dps - depending on spell. Mostly 0.1-0.2. Now, after the PvP damage nerf, casters are not only squishy, but not so great against healing or high regen classes (something that gets tweaked a lot)

Some constructive feedback in my opinon would be to add a "gear" switch like the weapon switch available.

Also as these stats themselves are not finalised and still being tested out it looks like this to me now:

T2 Raid Gear > T1 PvP Gear (just)

PvP gear from vendors seems not so great for PvE but best for PvP.

Then we have crafted gear, which is great to customize but can't be gimped out in overpowered gems now, after that the Blues and then the Greens. Many Crafted gear share the same with T2 gear in my opinion but ever so slightly T2 is better (which makes you think what happens when T3 dungeons open up?)
Maybe the best situation here (with further testing) is to make the PvP gear better than T2 overall (it falls just short in some area's but not so noticeably) so for PvP the PvP gear would be the best followed by T2,T1, World Epics, Blues, Greens. (just a thought but hard to do when you haven't got all the sets to test yet)

The current price for the gear will probably change too upon live release, however, if it stays to less than 3g a piece I'll be happy which taking out a big chunk of grind, right now its as cheap as chips.

What are your thoughts?

This post is image intensive!

Building upon further talk and to further increase persusal and conversation here are some details on PvP gear straight from the test server. Some pics I took myelf, others from others.

At the moment, only some of the class armor list a PvP level requirement, but it looks like the requirements are as follows:

PvP level 1 - jewelry/cape
PvP level 2 - belt, shoulder, feet
PvP level 3 - wrist, hands
PvP level 4 - chest, legs
PvP level 5 - head

(subject to change)

It seems casting concentration on gear is there for all caster types too. Maybe this is one area getting a close look in the number crunching game.

PvP level 5 is the highest on the test server right now. Which makes sense. Funcom has to get a public reaction and test from the lower level ones first before seeing what they need to do to make the higher level ones worth getting, yet not totally overpowered.

So starting off:

PvP Weapon Shop Vendor:

STATS ON THESE:

PvP Equipment Level 20-59:

PvP Equipment Level 60-74:

PvP Equipment Level 75-79:

PVP Equipment Level 80:

Stats on these:

This better not be a clever ruse Avery!

Haha! the only downfall, and to be clear is that the Funcom Duplicator Tool is only for your game client and not a gem dupe   (joke)- seriously though, this means you have to have TWO versions of the game installed on your hard drive, so close to 50GB if your interested in "porting" your character over to the test server client to see how things are. Thats the only draw back. However, considering how cheap HD's are now, im happy I picked up 2TB for $190 last month on one PC and a 500GB HD for $59 on another :)

If anyone has any questions with regards to set up on both XP and Vista and get stuck I can help out troubleshooting.

Pvp patch comes out when theres hardly anyone left to PvP , its mind boggling.

Maybe you missed the part about the 3 new PvP regions been added to the map?

maybe you missed the part of "to little, to late".....

why do you defend a game that isnt worth defending??? there are other games that are worthy of your time.... AoC isnt. Clearly you have a talent for communicating in an articulate manner (even if I think you are wrong on every issue with AoC), invest your time into a game that actually deserves your investment

You missing the point Page, and Mscouts77.

These forums are here for poeple who enjoy the game too, to talk about upcoming features and content and to discuss the game itself in its present state and anything else relating. Its not about defending or an investment in anything, if you can move past that thought process (which is defensive of your stance in nature) and see its just new info i'm relating to those interested. What people make of it is up to them to talk about. For some its too little to late, for others it could be tempting to revisit the game and for those that still play its forthcoming news.

What matters at the end of the day, no matter ones feeling on the subject we should all be able to talk to one another as fellow gamers and appreciate each others views on certain subjects. (whether agree or disagree - and that for the whole is why im still here)

When I log in the game speaks for itself, it appeals to me, its come quite far from the inital release and things are coming together a lot better these days. Moving forward I can see the above elements come implementation appealing to me more so and this is something I am interested in as a concurrent, active subscriber.

At the end of the day it most definately to late for some, and you know i can relate to that as I was there too (but maybe it didn't effect me in ways of others) nevertheless it's coming and goes someway to improving the game for those that enjoy it, of which these forums here are also a place to share in that regard.

I would say so many few people have even experienced a siege, T3 dungeons like Thoth Amon aren't in yet either. With forth coming updates should make about 6 new area's and redesign's for another half dozen with added quests in plenty of others.

Going back to sieges though and the cost involved in getting that Keep, they have adjusted the pricing on mats now so there are pretty big differences between t1,t2 and t3. This should promote more to get keeps up and challenge for them giving that 1% of the population an easier chance to experience them. More on this later though ;)

Yes the pop has dropped and i'm not arguing at all, just pointing out there are plenty of ppl about to pvp with and some very talkative server specific forums for those who want to meet a large portion of the rest of the server they are on.

Maybe you missed the part about the 3 new PvP regions been added to the map? Where does most PvP take place on a PvP server? I would say Kesh. On the test live server it is so crammed at the moment you can't get off the rez pad there and get 30 feet away. A quick log on to my Live server, Cimmeria, confirms that area is full of people.

As you know you can't PvP on and PvE server in open world.

I can Roam around 2 PvP servers I have characters on and still find lots of people, I can also log onto server specific forums on the official boards and find a large community too.

Edited first post with patch notes for 2.0 original and also updated in conjunction with patch 2.13 all currently on test live server - Copy your live character across and see for yourself :)   www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/198560

Actually Altair these are on test server at the moment for all to see and test. They want it best it can be before release rather than comit to an exact date. It will be done when its done is the message they publically put across for a while now. Plus now you can see for yourself how it impacts your live character.

http://forums.ageofconan.com/showthread.php?t=163256

Some new news:

As announced in This Thread the servers will come down for an emergency update on Tuesday, 2nd September. To avoid a second downtime in the same week the next big update has now been planned to come to the live servers next week. We also have mentioned several times in other threads before that we are testing the next big update as long as needed to make sure the fixes are implemented in the best possible manner and that the changes are working as intended. The following examples have been put together to give you a small glimpse of what can be expected with the next big update which should (pending testing of course) get to the live servers next week:

  • Around 60 different fixes to archetype and classes to further balance them also for PvP combat.
  • Several new quests in Eiglophian Mountains are getting tested at the moment and should be getting ready for the live servers soon.
  • Almost two dozens of changes and tweaks to the GUI including improved mouseover tooltips for items to better describe why a given item cannot be used by your character or combos that should show more information about what they are doing.
  • Like in past updates we also plan to add several fixes and additions to siege battles and if all tests are proving to be successful, we should be able to bring the first step of the PvP Updates to the live servers which will introduce the PvP experience and levels as well as the first sets of PvP armor.
  • Some smaller and some bigger changes to almost 40 of the quests including one that should have a slightly more interesting quest ending than currently.

And there are even more fixes for topics like Tradeskills, Tradeposts, Mounts, NPCs and more.

I know we said it before but it is important that we mention it again; testing new changes and fixes is crucial. If some of the planned changes are not working the way they should or if some problems are detected even in the last parts of a test we must make sure that those issues are removed before a deploy to the live servers. So please do take into account that the possibility remains that the actual update next week might change in some regards still. But we certainly are planning to bring the fixes and changes as mentioned and will do all that is necessary to make it happen.

We will of course keep you up to date about the latest status of the next update as soon as more information is available.
