I got into closed beta few days ago.  I haven't had much play time since the wife and I are both on vacation.  But I did have enough time to form some initial impressions.  These are just my opinions.

First off, I did notice a huge improvement over load times from couple days ago.  Still, there are a lot of load screens.  I prefer a more open world, but maybe there won't be so many load screens once I get beyond the level 20 area.

Performance wise the game is also running smoother over couple days ago.  It's very playable, but then I am playing solo so I'm not sure what kind of fps I will be getting in a group. If I was going to make a comparison performance wise, I might compare it to EQ2 when it first launched.  My rig is 3.6 ghz p4, ati x1950 pro 256 mb, 3 gb ram, 10k rpm raptor drive, windows xp pro.

Sound is fantastic.  Ambient sounds, music, voice overs.  It's really good.  No complaints here at all.

Graphics are beautiful.  As far as avatars go, I worried myself over nothing.  The female and male avatars both look fantastic, but this is a subjective thing.  The world looks lush and wild and very well done.

Animations are pretty good.  Some of them are great, like after a fight when my character is snarling and looking side to side and her hair sways every time she turns.  She looks so cool .  I haven't figured out how to use emotes yet.  Maybe they aren't in game?  I tried some / commands and nothing happened.

The quests so far are interesting.  There is a lot of story via the npcs if you like that kind of thing.

Combat is different.  I think I am liking it so far, but it will be interesting to see how it becomes more challenging at higher levels.

Overall, I think I will be getting the game on launch day.  I'm sure I would enjoy the game even more if I had a better rig, but at this point I think it's playable.  Hopefully it improves further still for launch, and perhaps sometime in the not so distant future I'll be getting a new computer.

Again, these are my impressions.  Just thought I'd share.

Allways good to ear a honest and open mind opinion, guess maturity really shows when it comes to analyzing a videogame...

Have fun in Hyborya.

I don't know how  but I finally got it running well. The game is pretty awesome, and I am liking it now that it is working. The combat is very impressive , I am running the game lagless in the instances and it is amazing.

There will be some things that are a soar thumb for like the foliage, but for the most part it is buy , and I will be flipping subscriptions back and fourth with LotRO. I wanted to do that with VG but that game just left me feeling blanked.

Think Saturdays pvp event will be my deciding factor on a 100% purchase .

Hope more people are able to get it to work cause it is one heck of an adventure game.

Damn bet you feel stupid now re-reading all your comments in the past 2/3 months naysaying aoc..

hi, I am in the closed beta and we just had a 650mb patch. all the stuttering is now gone, and my fps seems to almost doubled. I think the game fully supports multiple cores now because I saw cpu usage go to 100%.

good job funcom.

This is just as bad a troll posts.

Epic fail

The fact that FunCom went with the +M rating shows clearly what their target is, nitch market not masses.

Also going with high end gfx their setting a high standart wich will be hard to match in recent times, AoC may not have a OMGWTF start in terms of players right now, but in 1 year who knows?

People playing in Low will be playing in Medium, people in Medium in High , those who cant play will finally play...

They will be playing a AoC more polished and with more content than wen it goes live....

All these haters of doom need to understand that FunCom have a baby in hands and now they will raise it has they seem apropriate, with you liking or not.

yeah, I made that video. the OP didn't take credit for it I know, but he also didn't stipulate that he didn't make it lol.

I put it up on youtube as well for anyone that has troubles with watching it on Vimeo in Hi-Def - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RcL30iSlPtE

to answer a previous post asking what my rig is, I run an AMD X2 5000+ black edition that was 2.6ghz and I overclocked it to 3.0ghz,  a BFG 8800GTS 512mb, I run the game on my 7200RPM Western Digital SATA drive, and I use 1280x1024 resolution with settings on max. and to be honest, people overestimate the required hardware to run this game on max settings. I spent $400 on new hardware and the result is what you see in that video. graphics are amazing, my game runs great, and it's a lot of fun.

I also am somewhat planning on making a video for each zone in the entire game. naturally, it will take a while cause I have to level my character to see each zone.

thanks for all the kind words towards the video, just gives me more motivation to make more.

Great movie, hope to see more of your work in the future!

Some Tips, we havent really seen any group PVE , healings buffs etc that would be a plus on the movies!

It is truly amazing how many people talk about their experience in a given beta as if it was *the* experience in that beta.  As other posters have noted, with the huge variety of possible combinations of hardware & software running on a computer, there are as many different beta experiences for a different game as there are beta testers, even if those differences are in some cases slight, or the tester not knowledgable enough to notice them.  There has *never*, to my knowledge, been a beta for a major MMO that ran 100% problem free for every single tester, hell, there has never been a *launch* that did that.

People need to quit acting like the experience given by a particular config during an open beta is somehow definitive of the way the game will run for "everybody" or "the majority", whether that experience is positive or negative.  Most of the posts, both those attacking and those defending AoC, fail to cite anything other than one person's personal experience and a bunch of forum posts, in which the same names pop up with enough frequency that one could reasonably assume that there aren't enough people feeling passionately about it one way or the other to constitute even a substantial minority, let alone a majority of the total testers.

If people think they shouldn't have to make adjustments to their system configs in order to enjoy the beta, that is their choice, and there is nothing wrong with that.  That being said, for me personally, the client ran very poorly when I first ran it.  I then paid attention, both in the game and on various forums, to what people were saying about the various performance issues, and possible solutions.  Taking less than ten minutes to follow some of this advice, I achieved 50-60 FPS, with load times generally around 5 seconds, never more than 30, and no crashes.  Would it be a significant problem if the majority of players at launch had to put in 10 minutes of effort to get the client to run smoothly?  It very well could be, if the majority believes they shouldn't have to put out any.  But is it a major problem for beta testers, who choose to participate in something which by its very nature will have problems, to have a small degree of patience, and do a little bit of research?  I wouldn't think so.  But that's just me.

Dont know how it is now, since i'm out of the "WoW system" for a few months now... but, when i 'walked' around private servers, they would also sell gear/gold/stuff.

Infact there was some kind of a fuss over a certain server, since in 1 year time it made a profit of over 40k dollars, when the emulator software was supose to be 'free to use and free to play'.

Also, most of those people have no idea what "balance" means, and make 'costum gear' that is pathetic.

Ok, its fun to 1 hit kill any Boss, anywhere... for 5 minutes... then what? That's it.

Not all servers are like that, those are called "Fun Servers" isntant lvl 70 bla bla , those are fun for like 1 hour, im talking about servers trying to emulate Blizzard but with less grind time needed, ofc theres donators cause servers dont run for free, but normaly its still preety fun.
