same here. Plus I really like his honest approach. He tells it like it is. No lame ass promisses (*cough 3rd generation *cough) but simple black on white. This is what the game will be like. If you don't play like this - get lost and play WoW.

WAR is coming...

Don't feel bad man - we've all been there and felt violated the same way -  just be glad it's over.

I have the exact same specs except I have a 3.4Ghz. Vanguard absolutely destroyed my machine. Even on lowest graphic setting on which the game looks worse than EQ back in 1999 the best I ever managed was around 25fps when nobody was around and 5-10fps in cities. Grouping is impossible. And before people bitch and say "then you have a crappy machine" listen up: I run WoW, LOTR, and any other MMO I played over the past 3 years at 50-60fps at MAX settings. And to the .ini file idiots: Get bent! That's like saying "The Ford Escort is not a crappy car - all you have to do after you buy it is play with the engine a bit and it'll run fine".

Don't do it man. If you must -  definitely test it first!

EQ is still the better game. Unfortunately the game is almost at the end of its lifecycle. The pre lvl 70 game is dead. There are no more players to group with until you hit the endgame.

If they would only release a classic server like so many people have screamed for for years..... /sigh

Is this post a joke? SWG died the day $OE decided to screw their playerbase. MMOs CANNOT recover from poor launches or stunts like that anymore. That time has passed. There are too many products on the market now to get away with crap like that. SWG has proven that and Vanguard is proving it now. Learning through pain $OE ... learning through pain.

WAR is coming...

I don't quite understand this video. I know the title says "Vanguard not that empty" but is this supposed to be sarcastic? It shows a couple of areas in game with like 5-6 players gathered together in what I assume is supposed to be a busy area. I hope this is sarcasm because if this is suppposed to prove that there are many people playing somebody needs to post a video of the EC tunnel during the first year of EQ. That would show what an active community is. But I guess I have it wrong and it is supposed to be sarcasm. Either way ... crappy video.

That sentence makes no sense. I assume you mean that I took what they said the game would be for the truth? If that's what you mean than yes that is correct. If a company says they are producing an MMO I assume they are producing an MMO and not release a RTS instead. When a company releases a game I assume the game has gone gold and is not still in pre-alpha stage. When a company says their game will be greatly influenced by EQ I expect to see that influence and not a sub par WoW clone instead. You can spin this anyway you like. VG is borderline fraud and will go down as one of the biggest failures in MMO history -  it will be a shining example of customers no longer putting up with the crap companies trying to put past them. I can't wait for LOTR, WAR and AOC to stomp it into fading memory.

Does this prove:

A. Haters are really just lonely and hurt that their friends left them to Vanguard and secretly want the game to fail because they want us back?

-or-

B. Haters are such little and petty people that they attempt to destroy game they don't even play because that would make them feel like they have some sort of power in this crazy world?

In either case it shows the picture of a very sad person.

Truth is that the lesson that needs to be learned is for the haters. The lesson is: there is room on the market for games that appeal to different types of gamers, and we don't need to bash others for having a different opinion or attempt to bring a game to its knees with posts on mmorpg.

The hate posts on mmorpg hating Vanguard show the authors instability more than the games. These people are nuts to let a computer game get them this riled up. I'd say the most positive change in Vanguard is that you will now only see them here then having to deal with them in game.

Ahh my dear Mr. Watson,

See you have it all wrong. I was never a hater. I've played my share of poor MMOs (AO, SWG, HZ, DDO, E&B) but I never trashed any of them. I tried them, didn't like them and moved on -  no harm done. Like many though I started playing these games back in '99 with original EQ - a game I fell in love with. Some people believe EQ had a certain magic about it because it was the first MMO for many people. That may be true but there was much more to it. The world was full of lore, danger, friends & enemies alike. There were no quest NPCs telling you where to go and what to do. It was up to the player to discover this world and all we we're given was a rusty dagger and a candle.

Many years and many mediocre MMOs later comes Mr. McQuaid and promissed the Messiah of MMOs. And after 2 years of following the game and countless posts on the offical forums (back when the game had official forums) finally my BETA invite. Oh the excitement. Downloading took many many hours but finally it was here and I would relive the magic of EQ. I started the game and the first thing I noticed was the terrible loading mucic as if somebody was violating the orchestra. Not a big deal - I always turn music off in MMOs so that was just a small glitch. Aha! Look at that BETA server population: 86. Man I'm really here - one of the first to try it - this will be fantastic. Let's create a character. Okay there are like 39 humans, 1 orc, 1 cat, some wolf dude and the usual elven/dwarven/gnome trash. Hmmm... graphics look kind of lame but whatever it's BETA it will get a lot better. Let's roll one of them humans and start playing.

Alright we're in the game! .... why can't I move? oh ...I guess the game is still loading textures .... 3-5 minutes later...alright I can move ...kind of .... frame rate is non existent....doesn't matter it's beta ... it'll get better. Oh what is this?: Right in front of me a quest NPC! Hey this is just like WoW! ... errr WHY IS THIS LIKE WOW !?!?!?! .../sigh .... no worries it's beta it'll get better. Alright kill some beatles no problem I can do that. Oh my lord what kind of run animations are those!?!? The guy looks like he crapped his pants. Ahh well no big deal it's BETA it'll get better. Aha! a beatle! You shall die.... oh please God don't tell me you just swung that sword like you had a stick up your ass. Who animated that? Doesn't matter it's beta it'll get better.

About 10 minutes passed. The game was a disaster and completely unTESTABLE on my machine (btw I get 50-60fps flat in any other MMO on max settings - including LOTR). No worries this is really early BETA I will come back in a few months when they improved performance, fixed animations, improved graphics etc.

I came back to BETA many times over the next few months hoping for a mircale but I was disappointed everytime I logged in. Performance stayed crappy, graphics were the worst in any MMO since HZ, animations pre-date SoL models, races and classes were completely uninspiring, diplomacy is the biggest joke since gems in EQ and don't even get me started on crafting. Bugs and broken quests left right and center this BETA looked worse than SWG BETA. Yet, I still had hope that they may fix all that until shorlty thereafter they announced .... it was release ready !!! WTF!?!? I wish people these days could see what chaos this created on the offical forums. You guys think this board is bad? You have no clue. Nevertheless, offical forums were shut down and game was unleashed onto the public.

VG stood for something - it was a dream that many original EQers had. It seemed like the last chance to stand out from the rest of a more and more saturated MMO market. Well, I guess at least they accomplished that. They stand out alright!

If Brad had said we're "trying" something new here and hopefully it will work out I would have no beef with VG. I would still think it's a shitty game but I wouldn't hate it. But we were promissed something different here. This was the first 3rd generation (LOL!) MMO. The end-all be-all MMO. Instead what we got was the worst launch since AO. The only thing worse are the Vanbois that support this kind of launch and thereby showing companies like SOE that it is perfectly fine to release an anfinnished product and letting the public pay for the rest of the development.

Well, not me my friends. This came has successfully turned me into a VG hater and I will bash and trash this game whenever I can. Every person I can convince not to buy this game or cancel their account is a victory for me and MMO players everywhere. You can say whatever you want. I know many of you are still hanging on not wanting to let go of the dream that was VG. I can understand that. It doesn't change the fact that Sigil has shit the bed with VG and thankfully only a few players actually got fooled into thinking this was a good product. Thankfully, if we're lucky VG will die fast -  and hopefully by doing so will become a success afterall. A success for future MMO players who hopefully won't need to experience a scam like this ever again.

first of all you will ALWAYS have players whining that classes aren't balanced in ANY game. This has nothing to do with the class not actually being balanced but moreso with the fact that everytime a wowkiddie gets pwnd by another wowkiddie they run to the forum and start screaming nerf. In my experience developers of MMOs have a pretty good grip of what's balanced and what's not.

Class balance is completely subjective. Gear, skill, connection, hardware etc. are way too strong factors to give anybody a clear perspective on this topic.

just mho

see the problem is these days with so many MMOs on the market and so many more in development you can't release a crappy product anymore and hope to "fix" it over the coming months. You may be right that Vanguard may be "playable" in 6 months. I just highly doubt that given the current player base and the upcoming monster releases of LotR, WAR and AoC that Vanguard will live to see the day when people consider it a game worth playing.

you are correct. VG is a DREAM game. Too bad it never became reality.

it's actually not that hard to replicate -  developers just need to have the guts to do it and stop producing one wow clone after another.

First thing that needs to happen after character creation is to NOT have a quest NPC in front of you when you first log in. OH MY GOD WE CAN'T POSSIBLE HAVE PLAYERS TRY TO FIGURE THINGS OUT FOR THEMSELVES!  get a life people.

Second, the first mob you encounter in the game should have a half decent chance of actually killing you.

Third, don't have player housing, don't have player boats, don't have an over the top crafting system and by god don't have a magic the gathering card game included and call it diplomacy.

GET BACK TO THE BASICS!

A good MMO only takes decent graphics, good lore, and needs to challenge the player. Nothing since EQ1 has done that.
