The release of this game has brought me so much happiness - this thread delivers

Just a heads up for everybody - Please don't take those test results for granted. This applies to ALL games not just Vanguard. This program essentially just scans your system and compares it to the specs suggested by the game company so you have to be careful. In Vanguard's case my system passes the test with flying colors (I'm past recommended) but I have never been able to reach 15 fps in game (translate: the game is unplayable on my machine).

Just a fair warning for those who are worried about performance and think passing this test will mean they will be able to play.

Once again before the haters flame me, this applies to ALL games not just Vanguard.

Even if VG is in the drop down list?

read my post again - I said it compares it to the system specs suggested by the developer (essentially what's written on the retail box). We all know that in VG's case those "suggested" requirements are a joke. They are barely enough to load the game.

Sorry guys didn't notice this thread stirred a bit of a debate. As for the member cap, it's really simple. When you are in an endgame guild and there are let's say 40 raid spots and you have 102 people waiting to get into the raid night after night you'll understand why we have a cap. The formula that seems to work for us is member count = raid cap x 120%. How many members you need is obviously based on how active the guild members are. Given that our guild has very active members we don't need many above raid cap to make sure we can always fill our ranks. As for 30 members right now -  WAR has not announced raid size limits so we're playing it safe.

"What it does mean at this point is that both companies agree that we need more of SOE's involvement if Vanguard is going to continue"

OWNED !!!

errrrr.... I believe I speak for all of mankind when I say "please keep Brad ... and here's the source code. Please be careful not to upload it into your system or your spacecraft may crash unexpectetly. Also make sure to modify your .ini file otherwise you will not be able to reach lightspeed. Kthxbye!"

I am wondering where this story about SOEs devs comes from. The game is owned and developed by Sigil. SOE is the producer. This means that the devs working on the game are hired by Sigil. SOE staff work for technical support, marketing, packaging, distribution etc. The only case that devs from Sony work on VG is that Sigil pays SOE for them. Thats how these things work. Until SOE buys VG from Sigil, I dont believe that Sony devs can work for VG.

SOE is paying the bills. Without SOE Sigil would be in debt up to their eyeballs. You better believe it they have influence on Sigil. It may not be on paper, but Sigil is in SOEs grasp now and hopefully they can fix this garbage of a game.

No it is not. The 30M invested in VG was payed by Sigil. SOE does not really care about VG. If VG fails, Sony will just dump it. If it is true that Sony wants to buy it, that means that Sony believes the game will earn them alot of money. Otherwise why invest money in saving an awful game that you have not invested in?

not invested? It always amazes me how people think hosting a persistent game like VG costs nothing.

I'm sure there will be an offical announcement regarding Sony's and Sigil's relationship pretty soon. And I do believe it will bring a smile to my face. Can't wait for it.

give it about another 10 years but it will be coming for sure. Just look at gamers like Fatal1ty who already make a good living doing nothing but playing games. What needs to happen first though is that the old guys in charge whose concept of gaming doesn't expand past minesweeper and solitaire, need to retire. Once people take over that are/were gamers themselves, then you'll see things happening.

quests right now are essentially the same in any MMO. The next MMO to break that mold will be WAR with their public quest system. Yes, LOTR quests are hold-your-hand style quests ... much like VG. The only thing is at least LOTR quests are not broken.

Its because the game is for hardcore players only and not for the everyday player...

I stopped reading right there. I stopped playing Vanguard because it is an UNBELIEVABLY BAD game. It's simple as that. It is easily the worst launch since AO. I was a hardcore EQ player for almost 6 years. This has nothing to do with hardcore/casual. The only thing VG has in commen with old school hardcore EQ are the character animations.

this is really a no brainer. Go with LOTR. If you have a top of the line comp you'll really enjoy the graphics in LOTR. It has the most beautiful landscapes I have ever seen in any MMO and the character models and animations are 10 times better than VG. Also you have to rememver that although you pass the recommended requirements for VG that does mean nothing. My system passes the recommended and the game is essentially unplayable -  and that is on low to balanced settings wich make the game look 10 years old.

The last thing to consider in lifespan. LOTR has hundreds of thousands of players already and will most likely break a million or more easily. Plus the license is arguable the strongest of all the licenses out there. Long story short - LOTR will be around for a decade easily.

VG on on the other hand is a dying game already and it's only been around for like 3 months. Considering there are more blockbuster titles coming out the next 12 months I wouldn't want to invest too much time into a game that may get scrapped pretty soon. Rumors of Sony buying out Sigil doesn't make me feel all warm and fuzzy either.

Heads up .... here come the Vanbois to the rescue...

update: recruitment closed

However, a couple of applicants have not yet activated their accounts which will expire by the end of the weekend if they don't do so. In other words there may possibly still be an opening so feel free to still fill out an application.

Thanks to all who applied!

update: 1 spot left

Absolutely!

Anything in the application is mostly related to previous experience with ANY MMO since obviously at this point in time hardly anybody has any real hands-on experience with WAR.

Cheers,

feel free to check out our guild www.guildreborn.mmoguildsites.net/

This is NOT a BETA only guild. We've been around for a long time and we'll be playing together in live as well. We don't just accept anybody but we're still looking for 7 more dedicated players to fill our ranks (total roster of 30). If you are interested please read our guild charter and take your time filling out our guild application.

We're not interested in players who are just looking for a free BETA key but for those who are interested in a close nit end game guild we may be the right group for you.

Cheers,

Deathstiny

Guild Master of Reborn

Edit: Sorry forgot to mention, we do prefer players who are 18+. We're not trying to be discriminating to younger players but our forums, guild chat and vent are often ... let's say rated M for "May not want your kids to see/hear that". So please take that into consideration. Thank you.
