to me solo'able content is a must.  being in an akward timezone it can be hard to get a group.  that and i am never consistently on at the same times and take breaks ( a few days at a time) it can be very hard to get groups up and running.

recently been playing LOTRO and it took me 3 sessions (2 hours each) to get a group for 1 quest.  if i waited that long everytime i wanted to level then i would seriously never make it to max level.

linear.  even i can see that Star Trek would be hard to turn into Sandbox.  when i say hard i mean it requires some effort on the devs part and lets face it...they are all lazy as crap

new player planing to play when it comes back online.  dont really care if they do a wipe or not as long as its still a decent (read sandbox) game and has a decent amount of players (read more than SWG)

ok so i will give you a little background on myself.  i purchased LOTRO back when it was released and had a blast.  got my dwarf guardian to lvl 21 before my time ran out and never bothered to re-sub (i think i had found another game or MMO to follow.  cant really remember).  now i have played a lot of MMO's and one aspect that i enjoy is when i can craft and sell to an NPC for profit.

yes i know there is an AH but i hate it to death.  i think its a stupid system and there is no guarantee that you will make any money off of it.  another thing that frustrates me is the time it takes for stuff to sell on the AH.  many times (in previous games) i have used it only to get half the stuff back in the mail a day later.  i have a lot of fun finding a way to easily craft items and sell to NPC's for profit.  i did it in most of the games i have played and the fun part is crunching the numbers to figure out what is profitable and what is not.  an example is PoTBS beta

i went to EVERY port on the seas and recorded how much i would get for "trading" items in (trade 1 item for some cash and/or another item) once i had recorded all of that i worked out how much it would cost to produce these items...the rewards i was given were the same as what it cost to produce.

now i dont hate the devs of any game.  but i am frustrated that items sell for less when they are refined.  i am frustrated that ALL ingots no matter how rare they are sell for 1s 10c.  its just a small problem i have with the game

/rant off

enjoying the game, got my lifetime sub (just in-time for Moria) and my Minstrel and guardian are flying along.  completed book 3 on my guardian the other day and i am looking forward to book 4.

although there is very little info on the 40k one they did say it would not be a fps.  this turned me off the idea completely but i am interested to see how it will turn out.  the Tabula Rasa combat system was decent (3rd person shooter style) and i do love the 40k races.

1 thing is a must.  more than 1 planet.  i will not play it if it only delivers 1 planet (i dont care how good it is)

the main problem is the lack of female developers.  this problem wont ever be fixed because lets face it.  how often are girls encouraged to go into that industry?  better yet how often is anyone encouraged?  i only became interested after playing games and wanting to know how they work and then i picked up programming.  now i will admit there is a fair amount of girls doing programming however almost none have even considered the games industry.

still it could be worse...

i do believe in Mythics other MMO they have solved that issue.  they stick NPC's on the sides to balance them out.

but Death, NPC's can never make up for PC's.  you say?

ahh but when the sides are slightly more balanced then people wont be flocking to the more/less populated sides.  in the end it balances itself out by adding/removing those NPC's

you summed it up right there.  they have 10 million subs.  why change what works?  why bother putting in any extra effort if 10 million people are playing?

what this industry has failed to realise is that quests are NOT meant to be sending you to do every single thing that is needed to level up.  in DnD you are given a quest (say kill a demon) now on the way you meet some orcs, the lair of the demon, some more orcs, a few demons and then you meet/kill the demon.

if that were an MMO i would have a quest to kill every single one of those creatures (kill 10 demons/orcs) and a find the lair quest (lame).

what they need to do is drastically cut back on quests.  let the players decide for themselves what to kill and what to leave alone.  you can tailor this by making the kill quests:

assassination missions against a leader (the demon)

driving off the creatures (killing all in a set area (orcs/demons))

now in order to tailor this all you need to do is force the players to go through the monsters you want them to kill.  now in most MMO's the kill the leader quests (and indeed all kill quests) lead to a camp.  so its not a huge leap.

if you do cut back on quests make sure the XP given is substantial but also cater for the players killing a few mobs along the way.

yes but this time its a brand new game and so its much easier to implement the dumbing down of the game (or in this case bringing it up to industry standards).  one major difference is that Bioware is making it and not SOE.  LA may have the control to say what gets implemented and what does not but Bioware has the right to say that wont work, thats not logical or even suggest ideas (LA is not as close to the community as Bioware is)

i dont remember any riots in WoW, only political demonstrations (in a game...how sad is that?).  as for Runescape...well..i've never thought highly of the game and to be honest the style of pvp (and those that play) lead me to believe that this was not as bad as it was made out to be.

1. performance

2. AI (i say that for all games,  until i come across a game with AI's like those in the decent RPG games)

3. the community (more chat would be nice, get rid of the WoW junkies)

4. more armour types would be nice

5. decent weapons (ones that will last more than 3 levels)

No it does not Happen in all MMOs, especially ones that have been out for over a year. Thanks for your optimism but seriously, i can't play, neither can anyone else on my server.

uhhh...you ever play WoW?  server crashes happened about once every 2 months or so (at least when i was on).  CoH had a few when i played.  SWG had some spectacular ones.  basically any game with server resets (WoW, SWG to name a few) will experience these problems.

p.s sorry for the double post

sorry dude but your overreacting.  took me 5 seconds in the game to realise that the server was about to crash.  an in game message confirmed this and so did the launcher (posted twice even) went to the forums for the hell of it and got quite a few database errors.  i expect this may be due to the problems they are facing or too many people on the site at once.  i remember reading somewhere that Turbine has had a bit of trouble with their internet provider before.

...why are they using game names?  i'd hit the guy that decided it would be cool to all use game names instead of their real names.
